View 8 RepliesI have a big code, but essentially, this part comes to transformation of a BitmapData to triangle points, using affine transformation. Also - I know that BitmapData is rectangular - the last, fourth point of the transformation is just the first one reflected over the axis defined by the other two points.
A small thing so you can see which point is which one:

This whole process would come to scaling, rotating and skewing the BitmapData based on the angles between the points... But somehow my code still does not work. Looking at a similar thing in PaperVision 3D - still didn't work?
I try to calculate all the points on a curve.
The curve decided by the width(X on the picture) and height(Y on the picture) properties of a movieclip.The distance between each green point on curve is the same.
I'm needing this for a current project, so I have been digging around quite a bit (with little luck) on finding the distance between two points VERY fast. Yes, it is quite critical that it be as optimized as possible. I have the basics, Pythagorean Theorem run in different ways, as well as the Point.distance() function.
View 11 RepliesI am trying to make a program where I put in a bitmap map and then am able to calculate the distance between two points, and I have done that. Now I want to be able to zoom out and still have those two distance calculate the same distance apart, is there a way to do this with AS3 without have to manually scale my code?
For example I don't necessarily want to have to do
var distance = Math.sqrt(dx*dx+dy*dy)/scale...
Reason being is I would have to redo a lot of code.
I am creating a game in which I draw a series of polygons by creating points around a radius of a cricle.
Later on I rotate the shapes and I need to calculate the new location (X,Y) of the points based on the rotation. I have the Old XY of each point, the XY of the center of the shape, radius of shape and the rotation.

I'm only just embarking on making the move to AS3
I have a movieClip, with other movieClips inside of it, objects that I want when hit to lose points. But when I have the movieClips inside that one, it just has a giant "boundry box". I want the points to go down when you hitting only one of those items, intead it just goes does throughout the entire thing.
There is no way for me to scroll all those objects across the screen without either making a tween on the main timeline for each object (almost 20), or somehow making a giant movieClip scroll all of them all the way across, bypassing the first boundry box, and acknowledging the movieClips.

I was also playing around with the area calculator at [URL]. These functions produce slightly different results. I'm trying to figure out which one is more accurate. It seems that hong007's function produces results that are on average slightly larger than freemaptools' function. However, I don't know which one is more accurate.
I as this working in AS2 and need to update to AS3...shows that AS3 doesn't like sloppy coding. Here's what I need: I pull data from an XML and that works when I put the data into a dynamic text box. However, I can't seem to get the date of birth into a variable. I have some code that calcs age in years but uses a string literal that I thought I could just replace with a variable from my XML...ain't a workin'. Here's the code I have:

I have been tasked with trying to create a drawing tool that draws dotted lines as you drag the mouse across the stage. I can easily capture the points on MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVE and store them in a vector and then draw the points as dots:
The problem is that I need to calculate evenly distributed points on an ever growing Vector of points so I can only draw the line between say every 5th point (say using modulus). I have been battling away with Bezier curve equations both Quadratic and Cubic but still can't quite figure out how to convert my Vector of points into an evenly distributed Vector of Points without sucking the life from the CPU.
i have a drop down menu am working on and each button tab (although they are not button instances !) when clicked opens up the "drop down" section which you can mouse over to choose another specific button etc - if you mouse out of that drop down area then it pulls back up to the original tab state .. what do i change to the code below to decrease the area that you mouse out of to make the drop down area pull back .....at the moment it at least two inches on the screen below and to the right of boundaries of the drop down box before it pulls up - i want to it pull up as the mouse leaves the boundary box .... hope this makes sense .... there is some part of the actionscipt below that controls this but can work out which bit and how to change it !!! (am guessing the x mouse and y mouse bits - but how to change it ???)

It can get bitmap from the target object, but it seem don't get all the area of the image.
By give the width and height of target object, but the target object in design was applied by Glow Effect, so my question can we get the all view of bitmapdata from a displayobject?
I have a movie clip named circle_mc(see the image on the link below) and a mask object(movie clip) which determines visible area of the circle. User can change the portion which is visible (extend the red area and make it red+blue, gray area is invisible). I need to find proportion of visible area to invisible area (red+blue/gray) so that I can calculate angle.
View 1 RepliesI would like to first add the xml to my flash. Fine I can do this.But I have a number of buttons, where when I click say CW1, i get the information from the XML file with a node of CW1. I have all the xml set up fine.As I have about eight different postcode types.
ST, CW, CH, TF, WV, WS, DE, SK, SY, and each of these may have numbers that follow, i.e ST1, ST2, ST3 and so forth.
So I can only assume that the postal area could be the main nodes, and the numbers inside the child nodes, am I right thus far.o how can i load the area of the xml file into my text area on mouse click, pulling the information relating.

I want a height from point A beeing drawn to BC The angle at BC must be 90 degrees of course and the height drawn must alter when I drag the points B and C. View 3 RepliesI want to build a specifik thing in flash, and don't really know where to start.... Say I have:
3 images of 3 three different squares
3 images of 3 three different triangles
3 images of 3 three different circles
The first thing you see is Square 1, Triangle 1 and Circle 1. If you were to click on Choose Square, Square 2 will appare in Square 1s place. If you click on it one more time, Square 3 will appare, and then round again to Square 1. Same thing for all the shapes.When you're satisfied with your selection of shapes you click OK and then you get to see a movie, based on whatever choices you've made. Because there are 3 different shapes and 3 different objects within each category, there will be 9 different movies to watch (3x3=9).One example of how this could turn out is:
Square 1 + Triangle 1 + Circle 1 = Movie 1
Another one could be
Square 2 + Triangle 2 + Circle 2 = Movie 6
I am working on a draggable triangle in AS3 and the corners must be interactive. To each corner a bitmap will be attached (in my example for now it's just a name of a city). When dragging a specific corner, the bitmap/cityname (attached to it) should fade in from 0 to 100 alpha. If the bitmap/cityname won't reach 100 of alpha, when Mouse Up, then it should fade back out to 0 opacity. If it does reach 100 alpha when Mouse Up, then it should stay that way. However, if another corner is dragged, then the cityname which is currently at 100 opacity should fade out again. Well I've got the draggable triangle figured, I've got the corners citynames appearing and disappearing when they don't reach 100 alpha. What I can't get to figure out is the last bit - the cityname currently at 100 opacity fading back out to 0 when a different corner is dragged. Hope it's at least a little understandable. I'm not sure my code is perfect (this is my first time in AS3) so don't mind if something is not the way.[code]
