I can not display the data from an XML file. My code is like this:

getdata fn is called on click of a button. when i run the application it goes to the disp function but doesnot display the the data from XML file.

Why flash don't display my data query send from a php file that use the $_GET to retrive the information and run a query to display the result back to flash.but when I change the $_GET variable in the php file for a static value let's say (2), flash display the data that was requested in the php query..with $_GET I get in flash undefined with "2".I get in flash the data requested...

View 3 RepliesI imported a image file to my library and exported it for Actionscript. Which it created a new class that extends the bitmapdata class. Do I create an instance of that data and pass it to a sprite and add the sprite to the stage so I can display the image when I compile the file into a swf? Ive tried that and get an error saying that I need two arguments. I guess im just not sure what to do with the bitmapdata class.

View 1 RepliesI have combed the Web and I can't seem to find the answer. All I want to do is display some html-formatted text, located within an external XML file, in a dynamic text field in Flash CS3.
I don't have any code to supply because at this point the only thing I'm trying to display in the text field is "<b>This</b> is a <a href="http://www.google.com">test</a>." For this hypothetical example, I could call the text field myTextField. I just need to know how to format the AS3 code to get the XML to display inside myTextField.
I need to parse and display the value for variable VALUE in xml to the screen but read from the file continuously instead of
once. The XML file is being created dynamically so its getting larger but flash only displays first value for variabel VALUE.
This is the edit to my question. There is quite a bit of code here, but the problem area is below the second set of three line comments. I stuck the rest in just in case I'm completely wrong about where the problem is. With the "if" statement I can display fine in a run, but not in debug. If I get rid of the conditional it runs fine in debug, but not in a regular run. These errors only occur on the first run of the quiz. In either mode it runs fine fi I take a second quiz.

How can I save data to a text file and also append a record to data in an existing text file? I've used Authowrware previously and it was quite easy to create a large string of data (a comma separated list) and export that to a text file (and create the text file if it didn't already exist). I could then easily append additional rows of data (records) to the text file. We want to build a questionnaire that will store the data locally on the computer in a text file. Each record may have a few hundred data points in a comma separated list.

I am the fan of kirupa but this is my first thread in forum. I have some problem with sendAndLoad method with actionscript 2.0. I am developing a online game with flash mx , MS SQL 2000 and asp. The problem is I send the data using sendAndLoad method to asp file and get data back from asp file. But when the internet connection is not good there is a problem like jam or lost packets. How can I prevent the lost of packets. Some of the data are important. Is there any way to solve this?

I seems that referecing any outside content, be it an external actionscript file or text file is out, so I'm left with the option of encapsulation.
I'm having a slight problem getting XML data to read out in dynamic text files. I'm doing a pretty small experiment here. The XML file loads fine. I just must be making some small error in how I assign the value of the text fields to the values in the XML file. Can anyone please tell me my error? I am using Flash CS3 and ActionScript 3.

I am using a flipbook Flash/Actionscript 3.0 framework for a digital magazine[url]...
You can have videos embedded in the pages of the flipbook, but they can not be display fullscreen like Youtube videos, for example.
The flipbook can also import swf files to display as pages of the flipbook, so another way of embedding videos into a page of the flipbook would be to have the video player in the swf page you are embedding. This gives you more control over the style and the positioning of the video.
My question is: Is there a way with AS3.0 to togle the embedded video from normal predefined size to fullscreen and back?

This code works perfect when testing, and it works perfect viewing the SWF, but when you view the HTML file with the SWF embedded, it doesn't display the text file content.
Why doesn't this code go through the XML file in order? It should go through the XML file and display the images/comments as they are ordered in the XML file.

I will be creating a program to use for data entry. I'll be studying zebras in kenya and I won't have the internet there as I'm recording the data. I'd like to be able to send the data I generate in flash to an external text file. I understand I need some sort of script to do that, but is this something I can run just on my machine? What I like to do is to get what's in [title] tag using HTTPservice, import it into Flex, and save it as array objects, and do the same thing for [content]. This way I can later refer the array object saying title[0] or content[2].

Is it possible to pull questions from a data file into flash without having to create new frames for every question. This would be a multiple choice test. We currently hand type the questions into multiple frames and grade at the end.

When I use swfobject (or, for that matter, publish from Flash)...if my HTML file is in the same folder as my Flash .swf (called "bin")...the flash file displays as a blank white page. I can tell the .swf is on the page, because when I right-click I see the flash context menu...however, the swf is blank. So the path isn't written incorrectly.If I move the HTML file inside the "bin" folder and change the path from "bin/myFile.swf" to "myFile.swf" everything works again...what gives?I think it might have something to do with using the Loader class...I am using loaders to loader external .jpeg files. But I don't know what to do about this other than to keep my HTML files in my "bin" folder which is a bit of a pain.

I am seeing repeated comments on this discussion forum that it's not possible to save data from Flash into a locally stored XML file . . . but there must be a way to do this. Why is you can read data from a locally stored XML file but not update or add data to it. how absurd a design would that be, it simply wouldn't be logical!
