View 3 RepliesI am writing a large elearning course using flash.As a break for the student, I want to include a breakout game on one frame. I tried loading the game (game01.swf) into an MC container. The game loaded but did not function correctly.Then, using the Timeline Select All Frames, Timeline Copy, and Timeline Paste functions, I copy/pasted the game layers into an inserted MC symbol. Then I pasted the MC symbol onto the desired course frame. The game still did not run correctly.
View 1 RepliesI am making a breakout type game where you bounce a ball around and it hits & breaks blocks.The issue im having is with handling the ball after a collision is detected.Every frame the ball checks four points on its surface to see if they are colliding with any of the blocks. The problem occurs when the ball starts moving fast. The ball's radius is 7 pixels. If it is moving upwards at higher than7 px/ frame, then the ball might end up half way into one of the blocks.
In that case the ball detects a collision on its top AND on its side (which is bad -- If the ball is travelling upwards it should detect the collision at the top of the ball)how I could fix this so that I can make the ball move fast without sacrificing the accurate detection of collisions??
I'm starting with actionscript 2 and I can't figure out how I set a collision mask for enemies and characters. I've got birds that flap their wings but I only want the player to collide with the body, not with the wings, as they take up too much space and it would be unfair.
I tried mc.setMask and other things I found online, but somehow it didn't work, ie: did nothing. I think I don't get the way this works. I thought you'd need like an invisible rectangle that it checks collisions against instead of the actual animation.
in this how can rotate car when it goes to collied with the track side.

I am trying to figure out the collision physics for a top-down racing game in Flash / AS3. I am currently using the hitTestPoint method for detecting collisions, but I don't know how to apply a decent physics method to bounce a vehicle off of a wall that it hits.

The bullet is created in the nest movieclip, and I am trying to make the bullet disappear when it hits the wall.The problem is, when the bullet is at B, the hittest succeeds when there is nothing at b. I've been at it for hours and cannot figure out for the life of my why its not working. I have set up sentry points around as a perimeter on my character.
Alright. I have a breakout game. The ball has actions to check hitTest with the blocks and if so banish them 1000 pixels away. It only checks for the original block because they all have the same instance name and depth. How would you change the depth? Moreover, how would you duplicate it and place it in a fasion that it is all in a row and it duplicates more that one time on load?

I am going to develop a very simple game for android and for iphone/ipad I have the option to develop it in cocos2d or in adobe flash air (i am not a developer, but i have 2 developers who are offering me the service)I have a developer that states that cocos2d is better and other one that states that adobe flash air.I want it in cross platform.the cost offered by both developers is the same..i have heard that adobe air has the flaw that it is very slow, is this real? if you had the 2 options which will you use to develop your game and why?

I have assigned the above code as the BaseClass of the Beer symbol, this has allowed the beer to become draggable and droppable etc.when i run the program nothing happens, i just get a blank white screen.
It's about the "Game Character Dialogues", It is used to instruct the user what to do, like what you see in BookWorm or Diner DAsh.I used dynamic text fields to generate these dialogues,but as I continued doing it. I found myself stuck.I have no idea on how to change the words when the "next" button is clicked. there will be no previous button. but the dialogue will replay when the character is clicked.

I don't know how to get the returned value to combine it into the multiplier int variable. Is there any way to get this code to work or is it completely wrong?
