I am intending to display user's info on swf and I have stored them in xml files...
Code:

<users>
<user1>
[Code]....
This is an example, I hope you get this. So, I have 3 dynamic text field in my fla however I don't know what instance name I should give. I want to have a loop to help me auto-fill in these three text fields..
Code:
for (y=0; y<3; y++) {
y_name_txt = this.firstChild.childNodes[y].childNodes[y].firstChild.nodeValue;
}
I have some scrolling content (info). I've also made my own scroll bar.I want the scrollBar dragger to be positioned in relation to the info._y as the user scrolls info.I have created two vars: one that worsk out where info._y is as a percentage and the other that works out where the scroll._y dragger should be as a percentage...
Actionscript Code: var scrollBarPercent = Math.round(scrollBar.dragger._y / [code]........
also onMouseWheel working too.I need a small bit of code that takes the % of info._y and moves the scrollBar dragger to the same % but in relation to the Stage.height...so if projectGalleryPercent = 50%, make dragger._y 50% of Stage.height using scrollBarPercent.
We have a sort of game, generated with Flash in AS3, on our website where the reader is invited to eliminate the California Budget Deficit. It's connected to a database where we keep track of the responses and print them in chart form and post the results on the website so everyone can see the most popular budget items the readers want to cut.
See the interactive in question here:

We've had many, many requests to have an option where the reader can get a copy of his/her choices that he/she can print out. I've thought about having a movieclip pop up that shows those choices (and that would be simple enough), but in addition to that, what I'd really like to do is have a way to download those choices to the reader's computer as a text file or maybe have a "Print" button on the movieclip showing the choices that would print just that movieclip. The database we have wouldn't really be suitable because it's set up to simply show which were chosen and which not, and the names of the submissions and choices are variables that don't really mean anything except to us when we put it all in an excel file.
I need to get some color info for where user clicks on the screen. can i use getPixel with an imported image file ? or does it need to be converted to a bitmap?

Is there a Who Am I command that can read the Windows user name in flash? I'm working on a local internal app that needs to log who is logged in when making changes to the data. I don't want a prompt for who is logged in, I would like the app to check with windows. Is this possible?
I came across a website recently that outputs a whole bunch of user info: IP, browser, OS, flash version, javascript, etc in a very easy to use format. It was specifically designed for remote support, in order to determine user operating environment. However, I cant recall the name of the website.
I have something in mind like this: [URL] so each time, when the mouse is over each state, different information should show up in the right side box with different information. How should I implement this? should I draw the right side information box as picture, and then write a script to ask information to display when mouse is on certain state, is this a movie clip?
I watched the very useful Custom Panel Extension tutorial. But the tutorial doesn't show how to get data such as info about my current selection back to my custom panel. MMExecute seems like a one way street.
Specifically, I want to display a selection's X and Y position in the custom panel. How do I call fl.getDocumentDOM().getSelectionRect() in such a way that the results are accessible to the panel?
Where can i get the weather, in realtime (let's say each 10 minutes), of a specific place like Newyork, Dubai etc and display it in flash ?. I want to incorporate the information into the design that I have made.
I am trying to develop a custom AS3 RSS reader. I have got to a point where I have traced the pubDate, description & title from each item of the feed. My issue is how do I then get this info to display in seperate MCs on the stage? I can only display the last post in one MC rather all posts.Here is my AS...
Code: var container_mc:MovieClip; var myTotal:Number; var myItem:XMLList;[code]....
I'm trying componentize one of the pieces of UI in an AIR application that I'm developing in Flex. In this example, I want to display file information on a single line (which has an icon, some text/link and the size).
My code looks like this (component is called FileDisplay): <mx:Canvas xmlns:mx="[URL]"><mx:Script> public function set iconType(source:String):void { this.ficon.source = source; [Code] .....
However, when I do this, I get an error: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. This is because the child components of the FileDisplay are null (or at least they show up that way in the debugger). Am I supposed to be waiting for events indicating the child components were created? For now I can manually do everything in ActionScript in my main app (create a Canvas and add children to it) but how to separate the code more cleanly.
I am looking at all the various Flash detectors and am a bit overwhelmed. Most of the info I find is from 2008 and before so I am afraid it is outdated. I want to be able to detect if a user has flash plugin and if not then display a still image. I am concerned that I-phone users are not seeing the flash embed in my site.
I have an AS2 code and I want it to be "processed" and the corresponding swf file be displayed only when the user clicks a button on my webpage.how do I implement it?
I am making a game where I want to have a timer running over each level (a total of 4). When the user has finished the game, I want the timer to stop and then display their time. I have 2 dynamic text boxes with the varibles set to them as "Seconds" and the other as "Min". Here is the ActionScript I have for it right now:
I am trying to create a slider component where the thumb does not display until the user clicks on the bar. When the user does click on the bar the thumb would appear wherever the mouse is on the bar. I have no experience with the display package and since I am pretty new to using flash in general I cant think of any other creative way to do it. How to make objects display and display where the mouse is clicking.
I have a message and its visible property is false how can i make it so it becomes true when the user types anything but a number. So there input textfield and a send button if the user types hello when they click send i want the message to become true. How would you do it? restrict?
I have converted an image into a button and am using the following code to use it as an external link.

This works fine which is great but I would like for it to display information about the link when the user hovers their mouse over the button. How would I do this?
I'm trying to write a Flex client that interacts with a Spring-Flex java application. I would like to catch (the flex equivalent of) SecurityExceptions and Display an error page if the user was trying to do something they aren't allowed to dox op up a login box if the user wasn't logged in According to the Spring-Flex docs,
I'm in the process of creating an application in AS3 where the user can arrange a number of display objects (move/rotate/scale/...) in a container.When the objects are added and arranged in the manner the user prefers I would love to have a button that 'captures' a part of the screen and returns an imagefile (JPEG?, BMP?) that can be used for example in MS Word.
How to give a ms word like interface to a user so that he can enlarge and contract the display objects like Images, canvas, Hrules etc. at runtime in an web application?
I have a flash file sitting inside of a web page in our company domain. There is another server (used to store images) that is part of the domain but is not running any web services (for security reasons). A folder on the images server is however shared in such a way that any site on the web server can display images from the images server as long as the user is plugged into the domain. For example, both I and my boss can pull up a web site on the web server and see all the information, but only he can see the images because I have Vista Basic and no domain support. This is done via ""
That's ok, but on this particular instance I don't want to display the image on the webpage, I want it in a SWF on the page. However the SWF can't seem to load the images even though the page it's sitting in could. I've tried tons of variations of URLRequests and Loaders, most resulting in security errors. Since most of the online discussions about these errors revolve around cross-domain access, I can't seem to find any tech support for our specific situation.
It is possible to make file transfer from air application via server?I think need to create like byte array streaming or somethink like this from sender and write the destination file on receiver user pc.
I wonder wether on a website like chatroulette for example, the streaming video is going directly from user to user or wether it is going through a server.
In other words I wonder wether it is possible to offer a webcam service on a website, so that the streaming video goes directly from user to user, without overloading the system.
I have some text that says go to page with a input textfield box and a go button.
