im trying to find the height of a movie clip containing a dynamic text box loading an external text file. i need to determine the height of the movie clip outside of this function but whenever i try to do that i get the initial size of the movie clip and not the resized size after the external text has loaded. i have tried returning the height to this function but when i trace this value i simply get [type Function].[code]

At the beginning of the tween, the height of the text needs to be distorted ('too tall'), and at the end of the tween, the text will have settled into its correct height. However, when I try to scale the text in the first keyframe of the tween, the font size changes along with the text field height. Normally, I could just make the text into an image, but this needs to be a dynamic text field. Is there no way to scale the height of the text field and distorting the text height without changing the font size?

The movie clip that contains the text box is called "flashmo_pic_info" and the text box name is "photo_description". How can make it so that the text box is the size of whatever is in photo_description? Here is the AS so you don't have to download the template. Since the text will be dynamic,there's no guarantee of how many lines the text will take up.Directly underneath that textfield i have another text field that will also take dynamic text. I am using a scrollbar as demonstrated in OO scrollbar part 1 and have it working great, except that when you scroll the text, it seem to add a bunch of space at the end of the text field and then does not scroll back up to the top of the text field, but rather ends up in the middle.
Seems like it is somehow measuring the height of the text field at the wrong time? I would guess that it has the right height dimensions (due to the extra space at the bottom) but that it somehow is getting the wrong y coordinate. [code]...
I'm using a tweening engine and I need to be able to base the _yscale % of a movie clip off the height of a dynamic text field that is slightly smaller contained within the movie clip. 52 pixels smaller to be exact.I'm very poor at math but I'm guessing so far that some variable needs to be declared to factor the percentage based off the height of the dynamic text field. And I just can't think of how to do that.What I know so far:movie clip height at 100% _yscale = 396 the 'buffer' space above and below the dynamic field = 52.So if my dynamic text field height = 0, my movie clip would be 52 pixels in height. And that percentage in _yscale is 13.1%.I just can't figure out the math for this and how to translate it into ActionScript.

I have just come up with this idea of passing in strings into a textbox. The problem is having the height automatically adjust depending on how long the string is. So I have set width for my textbox, but I want the height to change if the string is long enough to wrap.

View 3 RepliesI have mc1 which contains code to dynamically generate multiple textfields based on an xml file, but mc1 has nothing physically on its timeline. I want to make another mc, mc2, where its y location is relative to the height of mc1, but when I trace the height of mc1 it returns 0.
Is there any way to get a height based on however many textfields are dynamically loaded into mc1? The height will naturally be varying so I can't just create a variable for a constant height.
I am developing an animated homepage for a Flash-HTML hybrid website, and for the sake of standards, my solution is proving difficult.
Here is the run-down:
For Flash users, HTML page loads a variable-height AS3 Flash movie that will start at 556 pixels high, and after finishing its animation sequence, tween via Actionscript + JavaScript to 250 pixels high.
To kick off this movie sequence -- (below-left) -- I am attempting to set the initial height of the Flash movie via MooTools, so if users do not have Flash or Javascript enabled, they will see the shorter-height image area with alternative image content and HTML content revealed (below-right).
Element.setStyle sets the height just fine until swfObject runs, at which point the movie collapses since I am not specifying a height via CSS. If users do not have Flash, it defaults to the height of a static image.
So here is my question: Does anyone know how to dynamically pass a height variable to swfobject when it is set up to width/height @ 100%? Am I killing myself for no reason trying to work with two page heights?

Is it possible to dynamically (not in the project's options) change the dimensions of the stage by using ActionScript 3? I'd want to create a 400x300px loader, but I also want it to load animations that have bigger or smaller dimensions. I would then change the width and height of the loader to make the loaded animations fit well. Is there any way to do that?
