ActionScript 2.0 :: Dynamic Textbox Auto-size?
Feb 16, 2007I'm having a problem with adjusting the size of a dynamic textbox to display text imported from an external XML file. I've tried using .autoSize = true, but it doesn't work.

View 3 RepliesI have a dynamic text box and I would like to be able to use actionscript 3 to change the color, font, size, etc. of only HALF the dynamic text. Is there a way to use the TextFormat class (or another way) to format half the string and append it to the end of the dynamic text? I also don't want to use server side script or anything outside of flash.
I want to do this:
Hello World -> Hello World
Example: change the color of Half of the dynamic text box.
I'm working on an A.S 2 document that loads chunks of text from an xml file and places them in different dynamic text boxes. The amount of text in each section differs but each one has to appear one after the other regardless of the size.At the minute I'm trying to position the second one beneath the first by making its y value 10 + the height of the first one. however the height that i keep getting is the original one and not the re-sized one.
Africadetails.autoSize = true;
Africaname.autoSize = true;
Africadetails._y = (Africaname._y) + (Africaname._height) + (10);
AfricaURL._y = (Africadetails._y) + (Africadetails._height) + (10);

Got a dynamic textbox that I want to be fixed in width and increases in size upwards (i.e its anchored from its base) upon retrieving larger text. Here's the code.
Code:
import mx.transitions.Tween;
import mx.transitions.easing.*;
var myShowXML = new XML();

So ive been asked to build a page for a real state company and the guy told me it should be similar to these [URL] Ive been trying a couple of weeks so far, but i dont seem to find a way to do somthing similar, i mean, i want to have the welcome screen as those two:
- the gradient background
- flash occupies whole screen no matter what size it is
- gradient expands sideways infinately
- no matter what height my explorer window is, gradient is always in the same position relative to top, and if i keep expanding downwards the background keeps last colour of the gradient.
- the brand logo looks as if it had top, left and right anchors, and it also limitates the minimum width of the explorer window
i though of addind a 3000 x 3000px square with the gradient and centering it, but i know there has to be a professional way of achieving that.
I am trying to build a flash that auto-adjust its size to the browser window size, while leaving the content of the flash itself top-centered in the screen.I have found this solution [URL].. on How to keep centered stuff in this exact case so i am pretty confident i will be able to adjust that script to do what i want.
Now my problem is that if i put my content inside the movie-clip (centerrectangle) with all the animation require, link and other stuff, the movieclip (center rectangle ) never have the exact same center, thus making the script go wild trying to always adjust the location to the variable size of the movie clip.

I wasn't sure where to put this post. I hope this is the right place.
This is what I want to do:
On screen resolutions up to 800x600, I want my Flash movie to resize to 100% width and height of the browser window. On screen resolutions higher than 800x600, I want the Flash movie to be a fixed size (say 800px x 600px exactly).

Is this possible, and if so, how?
I am looking for a auto suggest TextBox in flex.
When i type a character, a drop list within the textBox should display with matching words with the character that i have typed. please provide if have any example.
Is there a way to make a text box auto resize the text inside of it to fit that text box? For example: If text is too big, it would make the text smaller to fit inside the text box. This is for a dynamic text box btw.
View 1 Repliesi want to autofocus on my textbox on enter frame. I tried this Selection.setFocus("textbox"); but nothing happens the textbox is not focused so i can write on it.
View 3 Repliesplease take a look at [URL] The flash graphic is supposed to auto-resize to the page size but it does not. If I take the same code and put it in an "ordinary" webpage it works fine - look at [URL] What I had hoped to acheive is the effect in this page where the flash movie resizes to match the size of the browser window. I am using the script AC_RunActiveContent.js and calling it from the webpage with the height and width attributes set to 100% - it seems to be sizing the flash at 100x100 instead.....
View 3 RepliesI know how to autosize the textbox inside it, but the borders around the textInput aren't autosizing so the text is just overwriting it I've attached a screenshot to you you what's happening.
View 1 RepliesI have a list of items dynamically loaded from an XML file into my flash movie.Each item is positioned vertically with some buffer space between it and the preceding item.However, if the amount of items exceeds the flash objects height,then the excess items are invisible (because you cant scroll through them!).So then is it possible to make some form of call (undoubtedly an externalinterface call to a javascript function) that will resize the height of the flash object to fit all of this dynamically loaded content so that the browser's scrollbar is triggered allowing the user to scroll through?Or is it more practical to simply carve up my own scrollbar to fit the entire flash movie?
View 2 RepliesFor example, I've created 2 horizontal lists with different heights: 50px and 100px. I'd like to use 1 item renderer to display both. The item renderer has to create square items, so it has to produce 50x50 items for the first list and 100x100 items for the second one. How should I set up the item renderer to get the result?

My problem is that I need to get the autosized height instead of the regular height of the text box before autosize. In a parent movie clip I have the following code to do some custom scrolling:

is it possible to define a width and then autosize the height?
View 3 RepliesI know you can go left,right and center. but what about down?
View 1 Repliesi am having big problems with XML. i have made a auto re-size gallery useing XML, but i want my XML to load text as well for my contact and profile info, how do i do this. heres what i mean http://iso50.com/iso50.html
View 1 RepliesLooking to write some code that converts the first letter of each word in a input textbox string to Caps if not already. ie - input textbox = "lowercase input string", then on button press the function converts the input to output this: "Lowercase Input String".
View 3 RepliesI've had a good look around but couldn't find anything that directly solves my problem.There are several posts which are along the right lines, but I can't get my head around it in order to fix the issue.I need to automatically resize the text so that it doesn't exceed the width of the button. The maximum length for my sized text appears to be 13 characters before it will become too large.The program starts by dynamically creating several buttons, filling them with the title and description as set in an XML document.
To add the text I have this code:
var tform:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
tform.size = 20;
[code].....
mc.loadMovie("01img.jpg",0);
i use a mc load a pic i want the pic can auto fit the mc's width and heigth
I want to create a website with a background that will auto-resize according to the stage size using AS3.But what i need to know before I do it is: What is the right resolution for the background picture?I want people with resolution starting from 1024x768 to view the website correctly and I also want people with 24'' monitors to view the background with good quality so I guess the image needs a high resolution. I started with 1936x1288 but when I resize the stage to fullscreen the bottom of the image gets cut off.
View 6 Repliesif it's possible to prevent a textfield from auto-scrolling on highlight when it's height is smaller than it's autoSize height. selectable = false is not an option, and the smaller height is a requirement, can't make it proper height and then mask it.
View 4 RepliesI have a masked textbox which is also dynamically added to the stage from the library, and I'd like it to resize according to the amount of text loaded into it.this isn't working:
Code:
contentBox.container_mc.contentTxt_mc.autoSize = TextFieldAutoSize.LEFT;
Unfortunately I'm getting error:1120 but I've checked and rechecked every instance name so this error doesn't make much sense...
Im looking to make the flash file dynamic so that when someone changes the window size the flash file expands with it and some of the items contained move also.
View 3 RepliesHow can i make a image resize based on the users screen size in flash?
View 4 RepliesI've been working with Flash for over 3 years, but I can't figure this one out. I've got a body of text, half of which are bulleted points designated by <li></li>. It's loaded into a html-ised dynamic textbox.
[Code]....
It displays fine as is. However, if I make the box selectable, and select any part of the bulleted list, the ENTIRE body of text turns into a giant bulleted list, including the non-bulleted portion at the beginning. I've managed to replicate this bug with Flash 8 and CS3, using a variety of flas made from scratch.
