ActionScript 2.0 :: Getting _height Of An Auto-Size Text Box
Nov 14, 2010
I have the following code to populate a dynamic text box:
[Code]....
My problem is that I need to get the autosized height instead of the regular height of the text box before autosize. In a parent movie clip I have the following code to do some custom scrolling:
I've had a good look around but couldn't find anything that directly solves my problem. There are several posts which are along the right lines, but I can't get my head around it in order to fix the issue.I need to automatically resize the text so that it doesn't exceed the width of the button. The maximum length for my sized text appears to be 13 characters before it will become too large. The program starts by dynamically creating several buttons, filling them with the title and description as set in an XML document.
To add the text I have this code: var tform:TextFormat = new TextFormat(); tform.size = 20;
I'm working on an A.S 2 document that loads chunks of text from an xml file and places them in different dynamic text boxes. The amount of text in each section differs but each one has to appear one after the other regardless of the size.At the minute I'm trying to position the second one beneath the first by making its y value 10 + the height of the first one. however the height that i keep getting is the original one and not the re-sized one.

So ive been asked to build a page for a real state company and the guy told me it should be similar to these [URL] Ive been trying a couple of weeks so far, but i dont seem to find a way to do somthing similar, i mean, i want to have the welcome screen as those two:
- the gradient background - flash occupies whole screen no matter what size it is - gradient expands sideways infinately - no matter what height my explorer window is, gradient is always in the same position relative to top, and if i keep expanding downwards the background keeps last colour of the gradient. - the brand logo looks as if it had top, left and right anchors, and it also limitates the minimum width of the explorer window
i though of addind a 3000 x 3000px square with the gradient and centering it, but i know there has to be a professional way of achieving that.
I am trying to build a flash that auto-adjust its size to the browser window size, while leaving the content of the flash itself top-centered in the screen.I have found this solution [URL].. on How to keep centered stuff in this exact case so i am pretty confident i will be able to adjust that script to do what i want.
Now my problem is that if i put my content inside the movie-clip (centerrectangle) with all the animation require, link and other stuff, the movieclip (center rectangle ) never have the exact same center, thus making the script go wild trying to always adjust the location to the variable size of the movie clip.

I need it to stay exactly at the same position whatever the size of the movie-clip. [code]...
I wasn't sure where to put this post. I hope this is the right place.
This is what I want to do:
On screen resolutions up to 800x600, I want my Flash movie to resize to 100% width and height of the browser window. On screen resolutions higher than 800x600, I want the Flash movie to be a fixed size (say 800px x 600px exactly).

please take a look at [URL] The flash graphic is supposed to auto-resize to the page size but it does not. If I take the same code and put it in an "ordinary" webpage it works fine - look at [URL] What I had hoped to acheive is the effect in this page where the flash movie resizes to match the size of the browser window. I am using the script AC_RunActiveContent.js and calling it from the webpage with the height and width attributes set to 100% - it seems to be sizing the flash at 100x100 instead.....
I know how to autosize the textbox inside it, but the borders around the textInput aren't autosizing so the text is just overwriting it I've attached a screenshot to you you what's happening.
I have a list of items dynamically loaded from an XML file into my flash movie. Each item is positioned vertically with some buffer space between it and the preceding item. However, if the amount of items exceeds the flash objects height, then the excess items are invisible (because you cant scroll through them!).So then is it possible to make some form of call (undoubtedly an externalinterface call to a javascript function) that will resize the height of the flash object to fit all of this dynamically loaded content so that the browser's scrollbar is triggered allowing the user to scroll through?Or is it more practical to simply carve up my own scrollbar to fit the entire flash movie?
For example, I've created 2 horizontal lists with different heights: 50px and 100px. I'd like to use 1 item renderer to display both. The item renderer has to create square items, so it has to produce 50x50 items for the first list and 100x100 items for the second one. How should I set up the item renderer to get the result?
I'm having a problem with adjusting the size of a dynamic textbox to display text imported from an external XML file. I've tried using .autoSize = true, but it doesn't work.
i am having big problems with XML. i have made a auto re-size gallery useing XML, but i want my XML to load text as well for my contact and profile info, how do i do this. heres what i mean http://iso50.com/iso50.html
I want to create a website with a background that will auto-resize according to the stage size using AS3.But what i need to know before I do it is: What is the right resolution for the background picture?I want people with resolution starting from 1024x768 to view the website correctly and I also want people with 24'' monitors to view the background with good quality so I guess the image needs a high resolution. I started with 1936x1288 but when I resize the stage to fullscreen the bottom of the image gets cut off.
if it's possible to prevent a textfield from auto-scrolling on highlight when it's height is smaller than it's autoSize height. selectable = false is not an option, and the smaller height is a requirement, can't make it proper height and then mask it.
I have a masked textbox which is also dynamically added to the stage from the library, and I'd like it to resize according to the amount of text loaded into it.this isn't working:
I like to know an easy way to create a text autoscroll (vertical) that worked when the text was loaded from another text file. it can use for news/site update. see the attachment.
Is it possible to tell a text box to auto fit to its text? What I mean is that when i change the size of a font to something smaller the text box remains its old large self. This is a problem because when I want to align this text with several other text boxes that have gone through similar treatment, the alignment will take into account the full box size rather than just the text.
So basically I have to go and manually shorten each text box. Which is a pain when you have to deal with a lot of text. Is there a script or button/option I'm not aware of that will auto fit the box constantly?
Problem: I am trying to get a very simple text resize going, for my main content area in a flash website. My aim is to get a button, that on click, increases the text size of a dynamic text field.
[Code]....
This is what I tried, I am very new to Action Script, so excuse the futility of my code.
This does change the width, but the line gets thicker (height is increasing) as the width increases. Why is this happening, and how can I keep it from happening? I want only the length of the line to change, not its thickness.
Attached is a FLA in which a target onPress gets a bullet hole attached to it and folds down. The fall down is made across five key-frames. In each frame the height (H) of the GIF, representing the folding target reduces this way:
instead trace(this._height) returns like this (and every time slightly different):
from frame 1: this._height=156 from frame 5: this._height=147 from frame 3: this._height=117 from frame 4: this._height=99 from frame 5: this._height=99
the problem seems to be caused by the cide line which attaches the bullet hole: this.attachMovie("bullet_hole_metal","bh"+i,i);
When this is commented out this._height traces correctly.
i know it's possible to check the _width and _height of a .FLV with the metadatainfo. BUT not every movie got this kind of info, how do i check this without the info or can i place a .FLV in his original size in the screen?
I'm having trouble getting the _width & _height of a jpeg loaded using loadMovie. I'm trying to reposition it (pseudo-registration point) for rotation in a container movie clip. If I use hard-coded numbers, it works fine. However, if I try to position it based on its _width and _height properties, it's no go... in fact, it doesn't even show up on stage.
