i am wondering if there is a way with flash to call the open file dialog box so the user can browse his/her directories to select the file to load. also, if this is possible, is there a way to choose what type of files are allowed?

My current problem is this: I have a small file download program. When the user clicks a button, it will pop-up the Save As dialog. The problem is, if the user closes the Firefox window, the dialog stays open. And when the user wants to close that dialog, he or she can't anymore. It won't respond. The only way is to kill the plugin process (on Linux anyway).
So is there a way to monitor opened file dialogs?
I've tried to get the browser to notify the Flash app that it's closing, which works great. The problem is even if the app knows it should close the file dialog, it can't...I've tried setting the FileReference to null, using delete on it, calling the garbage collector, etc., nothing seems to have any control on that dialog.
I want to open a file dialog via FileReference.browse() but I get #2176 error which means that this action can only be invoked upon some user interaction. I'm aware of security considerations but in my scenario I have a thin flash movie which merely displays an image and the whole UI is in javascript (I heavily use javascript <-> actionscript communication).
So the question is - do you think it would be possible to invoke FileReference.browse() upon the user interaction coming from javascript?

View 5 RepliesI have Flash CS4 10.0.1.545 Mac with OS X 10.5.6: I have the standard Workspace and when I select Import to import an image, the open file dialog in OS X slides down from the top of the stage and the entire Flash window that is holding my timeline and stage moves down about 100 pixels. I then import, then I click the top of the window to move it back up and it snaps back instantly as soon as I click on it before I drag it up.

View 1 RepliesI'm trying to integrate a JavaScript multiple file uploader into a website. I've worked with Uploadify before and wanted to go with that. The difference in this case was that I needed to allow a large number of files in the upload queue (up to 500).
Everything works fine in Firefox, IE6-9 and Safari. Except for Chrome, where when selecting more than 232 files at once (using the Flash file select dialog) it doesn't do anything (the file select event is not triggered for the JS script to capture).
At first I thought it was an Uploadify bug, and decided to try Plupload as an alternative. Problem is that I hit the same dead end with the Flash version of Plupload, it just won't do anything when selecting more than 232 files at once.
Is this a known Flash Player limitation/bug in Chrome?

We have noticed a possible bug in the Flash Player within Mac's latest OS version Snow Leopard.
When a Browse for file dialog is initiated, upon returning to the browser. It's as if there is a layer above the flash app which stops interaction with the mouse. MouseOver events no longer take place and a click is require to remove this layer. If you move your mouse at all after the click this invisible layer returns limiting interaction.
We have tested this with 2 macs running snow leopard and the latest Flash Player. And also verified it is not an issue on Mac OSX previous to Snow Leopard.
It seems to effect only FF and Safari. Opera functions correctly.. Here is a video we created documenting the problem: [URL]
We have not had any customers complain about this yet. But if it's infact a bug, it's just a matter of time.
I have XML displaying in dynamic text boxes. Some of the text are a href links, I also want to track which links are clicked by sending a javascript call to Google Analytics. Is there a way to do it and also open the link in a new window?
View 1 RepliesExcuse me, I'm afraid I'll show my ignorance here,I'm trying to update my music site, and am happy with the look I get when I preview in IE from Dreamweaver, but when I upload to my site online, IE chokes up and the flash object never shows up, as on the iphone iOS 4.3 safari browser, and Firefox renders the object, but too far too the left.
Basically, when I have href text of various song names in cells on a table with a background image. When a song name is clicked, I'm attempting to have songs from my soundcloud account show up and play in a cell on the table, using an iframe. This is sort of working locally in IE, but nowhere else (see above). The code I grabbed from soundcloud is a flash object with a number of parameters defined that I am not able to utilize in my current method of just using the src="http:samplefile.com" part of the ofject code, not the other object parameters.
I've also tried creating separate html pages that have the full object code and nothing else, and then having my text in my table cells call these html files to show up in the iframe--that's actually working in IE, and though the location is off, in Firefox, but not on an iphone. My CS5 flash crashed when I changed the name of the root folder while it was open. Swf is working fine, but .fla file wont open, I get a "Failed to open document" message. This is a disaser because I've lost two days of work. Is there anything that could be done to fix this problem?

View 1 RepliesI have been working on a project for a week and suddenly it crashed during save (nothing strange had been imported or anything i just saved after moving content around) and now i cant open my file again. I contacted adobe support who claim that since the problem is related to the file this is not their problem, what a load of HORSE ****, who should i contact about this dell if its an FLA FILE!? I have already renamed the file to flash.zip then opened with WinRar and repaired as a new zip file to a different folder (which removes the corrupt content which is document something.xml) then i tried renaming this folder back to flash.fla however the file still does not open.

I am using flash cs3 pro and I get the error "Unexpected file format" when trying to open the file, a friend has flash cs4 and has the same error. Is there something I could do to open this .fla file correctly? Or maybe if someone could try opening it and saving it again for cs3?
