I know that there is no implementation of File Save Dialog in JavaScript as of now, but it can be done with Flash. I am looking for a lib or source code in Flash that could do it for me so that I can call it via JavaScript. JavaScript knows the data and filename, I just want to open a file save dialog.

I've had success with JPEGEncoder (along with ByteArray, BitmapData etc.) but it's extremely slow and obviously not file type agnostic.

I'm writing an simple application (with adobe flash) that runs on client PC and save user state data in XML file in same directory of app. When i use FileReference it shows a user dialog for saving file. Is there any class to save just XML data directly into XML file?
I think writing just XML (text plane) data couldn't make any security problems?
If the computer has internet conexion, the app has to check when open if the data xml file has changed in a web server, if so, has to download the new data.xml file and substitute the old one.
Since it is posible that the app runs when the computer is turn on at a certain time and there may be nobody to use the dialog box.
I'm trying to use save() method in the FIleReference class to save the mp3 file. Do you know is there anyway to save the file without the saving-dialog box?
View 1 RepliesI want to open a file dialog via FileReference.browse() but I get #2176 error which means that this action can only be invoked upon some user interaction. I'm aware of security considerations but in my scenario I have a thin flash movie which merely displays an image and the whole UI is in javascript (I heavily use javascript <-> actionscript communication).
So the question is - do you think it would be possible to invoke FileReference.browse() upon the user interaction coming from javascript?
I just created a xml editor in Flex that works perfectly, but i'm having trouble with save option. In fact he's saving quite well, the problem is that it is displaying a dialog box for saving the document, and i want to save and replace the file automatically when i click the save button without displaying the dialog box.
NOTE: I am using the FileReference class to use the method Save(), i read somewhere on the internet that FileStream class can be used for this, but i don't know how...

I can save files in CS5 as CS4 so they can be read at college (by Flash) but I have to do it via the "save as" every time I save. After a couple of times, it get rather irritating. Is it possible for me to save in the usual way (as if it was a CS5 document) without the save as dialog every time I save my work?

Once user clicks on flash button, I need to give a confirmation modal dialog before saving the file and if user clicks on OK only I have to pop file download dialog. Confirmation dialog with in flash is not an option for me. On mouseOver, the Flash objects will play a movieclip in place. On MouseEvent.CLICK, I would like the Flash objects to make the html page create a new iFrame with embedded .mov movie file in a lightbox effect.
I can't seem to get it to work. I have tried ExternalInterface.call(), navigatetoURL(), I have tried simulating a click event in javascript. Essentially, I want a mouse-click that is captured in Flash to open a jquery/javascript-lightbox in an iframe.
I have Flash CS4 10.0.1.545 Mac with OS X 10.5.6: I have the standard Workspace and when I select Import to import an image, the open file dialog in OS X slides down from the top of the stage and the entire Flash window that is holding my timeline and stage moves down about 100 pixels. I then import, then I click the top of the window to move it back up and it snaps back instantly as soon as I click on it before I drag it up.
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to integrate a JavaScript multiple file uploader into a website. I've worked with Uploadify before and wanted to go with that. The difference in this case was that I needed to allow a large number of files in the upload queue (up to 500).
Everything works fine in Firefox, IE6-9 and Safari. Except for Chrome, where when selecting more than 232 files at once (using the Flash file select dialog) it doesn't do anything (the file select event is not triggered for the JS script to capture).
At first I thought it was an Uploadify bug, and decided to try Plupload as an alternative. Problem is that I hit the same dead end with the Flash version of Plupload, it just won't do anything when selecting more than 232 files at once.
Is this a known Flash Player limitation/bug in Chrome?

View 3 RepliesI have a lightbox-style HTML dialog that shows a menu on top of a web page. It can be injected into any web page via a JavaScript bookmarklet.
One of my users is trying to use it on YouTube.com with the result that the flash movie is rendered on top of the dialog (a div with high z-index).I can't reproduce this. It works just fine for me. The dialog shows up on top of everything else on youtube.com, the video included.I had him save the page in Safari as Webarchive and send it to me. Even that shows the menu rendered correctly for me.
I use the exact same version of Safari (4.0.5/531.22.7) and Flash (10.1 r53, latest beta). Only difference I could find is that he uses Snow Leopard (10.6.6) and I "only" 10.5.8.
Is this possible through flash?
I have to create a flash uploader where you can define the maximum number of files that can be selected.
We have noticed a possible bug in the Flash Player within Mac's latest OS version Snow Leopard.
When a Browse for file dialog is initiated, upon returning to the browser. It's as if there is a layer above the flash app which stops interaction with the mouse. MouseOver events no longer take place and a click is require to remove this layer. If you move your mouse at all after the click this invisible layer returns limiting interaction.
We have tested this with 2 macs running snow leopard and the latest Flash Player. And also verified it is not an issue on Mac OSX previous to Snow Leopard.
It seems to effect only FF and Safari. Opera functions correctly.. Here is a video we created documenting the problem: [URL]
We have not had any customers complain about this yet. But if it's infact a bug, it's just a matter of time.

I read that it could be done by passing the javascript code to the parent html document , using externalinterface.call function. Then I assume it will be faster if I can declare functions in the javascript code in the HTML document in the first use of externalinterface.call funtion ; if flash code calls the javascript code repeatedly. So let me ask you how to do that. For details , any javascript to be loaded is unknown in design time and I can not prepare a javascript file to be loaded.
