ActionScript 2.0 :: How To Load Random Bg Images
Mar 7, 2005
do you know a tutorial on how to load different background images into the flash movie, so that they appear randomly (each time a different image, not in the same order). I would think to put the imgs into external swf and then load them into my main swf, but how do I get the random effect?

I'm using the following code below, and basically I've got 4 containers which all load a random image from a folder. The problem is there are often double ups with the containers. How can I adjust the code below to ensure each container loads an image that isn't already in any of the other containers?
PHP Code:
pic_arr = ["images/1", "images/2", "images/3", "images/4", "images/5", "images/6","images/7","images/8","images/9","images/10","images/11"];
onLoad = function () {

I'm looking to display three images, chosen at random on load, throughout the duration of a banner ad.Basically, these images are health tips displayed on post it's - as it plays, the post-it's fly off, revealing the next tip.I also need ensure that the images don't repeat I 'm mostly a timeline guy, but I've been learning AS and have no problem getting one image to display randomly - however the three separate ones with no repeat is throwing me off.
My thoughts are to are to either
a) Put all the images on separate frame within 3 MC's, and somehow display a random frame within that clip on load, ensuring no repeat
or
b) Load the images into 3 separate MC's through and XML doc, and pick one at random.
The images only appear one at a time - so I think each MC would only contain one of the 3 random images selected.So is it possible to load a random image into a MC,and then duplicate that MC without a chance of the image repeating?

I'm making a quiz in flash that loads random images with questions (50 in total) and I want to check if someone answers right (obvious). I'm using this script to check if you answer correctly:
PHP Code:
if (answers[randomnumber].selected){
score++;
}
The answers is an Array with the correct answers. The random number is this:
PHP Code:
var high:int = 50;
var low:int = 1;
var randomnumber:int = (Math.floor(Math.random()*(1+high-low))+low)
The .selected is because it uses radio buttons. But it doesn't work! For testing I modded it so that you get the same question every time and I answered the same every time (correctly) but it says that I don't have everything right?

Heres a direct link to the swf. (Flash Player 9 Req) [URL] Note that it loads random images to the right.
Now, when I embed this same swf into the actual site: [URL]
I don't understand
I've taken out the new javascript embed code, just to make sure that wasn't messing things around, but to no avail.
[Code].....
If I hard code the php file with the values listed above, everything works perfectly. But I'm using a php script that checks the directory for images, then provides that output.

I am trying to implement a random slideshow type thing which would be fine if all of the images were in the one folder, but i want to randomly display them from multiple folders... if I define each path as a variable, is that the easiest way?
ActionScript Code:
var pathaURL:String = "folder1/slideshow/";
var pathbURL:String = "folder2/slideshow/";
var pathcURL:String = "folder3/slideshow/";
and then somehow implement the randomness with the image variable...?

I want a movieclip consisting of a dynamic text box that, from the time it's loaded onto the stage, loads a randomly selected text string from an array, and continues to loop until the clip is removed from the stage. I also want the text strings to appear in the text box for random intervals between 500 and 3000 milliseconds.
While I've found tutorials here and elsewhere on loading one element from an array, usually triggered by a button, I don't know how to combine/alter it with the other elements.So I want this movieclip on the stage randomly flashing phrases from an array, some for a barely perceptible time, and others for a readable time.

I've been putting data into an array via XML, and then selecting at random an image string to load in a pic at random. But whilst doing this, I wanted to remove the String from the Array that I have just used, so I don't get repetition of the same image in the output. I initially thought that pop would remove the string I had just used - But of course it Removes the last value in the Array instead, which doesn't really help.
Ok - so how about randomizing the data once inside the Array, after it has been pulled in from XML!? That way I can load in the 'last' image, and then pop it out! Keeping a randomized selection of images each time 'it' is loaded

I am trying to load multiple images into a scene and then cycle through the images one at a time.So, here are the essentials what I've put together in AS3:First I set up a counter and a Loader
[code]....
Then, after loading a list of images from an XML file, I call a function that I called "createImages". This function then takes the list of images and creates a bunch of loaders:
[code]....
So far, so good! I now have a bunch of loaders each with a different name "img1","img2","img3" etc.

I am using actionscript 3. I can load an image in a class but how do Iload a number of images eg 4 images that animate.?These 4 images are a walking sequnce of a character. I am unclear after googling an loading multi images in as3( just love google).
Loading a single image I load this into a loader Once loaded I load the image into a bitmap and add to a sprite I then add the spite to the stage Q)Now for 4 related images I load 4 loader or 4 sprites or 4 bitmaps or do every thing 4 times?I want to do collisions eventually and I need bitmaps but bitmaps seem useless to use other than collisions.Googling for answers isnt helping me clarify this!

I do have a problem to make jpeg images random in a swf movie.I have found a tutorial which explains people to apple a single lineofcode:imagenes_mc.loadMovie("ima00" + (1+random(5)) + ".jpg");to the first frame of the movie which contains an empty mc "imagenes_mc" which should load a diferent JPEG each time someone gets into the website.Thing is: ON my published swf nothing happens with that code and on the output windown i get "1120: Acess of undefined property mages_mc" and also "1180: Call to a possible undefined method random"

i am using a slideshow template that I purchased and I wanted to get the images to load randomly, I contacted the author but he wants me to pay him extra for this and I have no money left for this project.basically, I'm looking to add a line to this as2 file that would make the images load randomly without repeating and then start over when the cycle completes. I tried putting in an array but it caused all kinds of errors.

I have a set of images on the screen that is 5 x 5 rectangles. My objective is to constantly have images fade in on top of the existing images in one of these random positions. I have 200 images/movieclips that these will be pulled from.
I figured the best way to do this would be to have 25 pre-placed instances on the screen and have the script choose one randomly and then load a random movieclip into it.
The problem that I am having is that after it draws the first box it is not persistent, it disappears just before the next one
appears. I want them to stay forever or least until that particular image is completely covered up.

I am using a random slideshow on the homepage of my website. It worded perfect when I was testing it locally, but now that I've uploaded it to an external server which is a bit slower, and there is a delay between loading images. Here's the work in progress site: [url]... I know it has to do with the way the actionscript is written, and the order in which functions are carried out. I just cant seem to get it to function the way I would like it to. I would like it to immediately load the first image and display it, then while that first image is displayed I would like it to load the second image. Right now it waits until the first image finishes displaying to load the next image.

I'm using some nifty code which randomly loads a movie clip with jpegs via an XML file and an image folder. Everything is working great, except, the random function doesn't seem to make it through the entire batch of photos before it repeats images. I did notice their is a method which loads an array but I wasn't sure how to incorporate that.
ActionScript Code:
//: SETUP INITIAL VARIABLES
var oldVar = 0; // keep track of previous random number
var newVar = 0; // used to load the next image
var si = 0; // interval variable
//: GET XML

I have 5 pictures that I want to randomly fade in and out on a loop, the problem with this is that there's not really anything to trigger this action. An animated intro comes in on load (all done on the timeline) and on a frame named "home" it stops, this is when I want to run this piece of Actionscript. When a button is triggered here, the images are going to fade, and it goes to several full page menus (laid out on the timeline), when clicked again it goes back to "home".This is the closest I've gotten so far:
import fl.transitions.Tween;
import fl.transitions.easing.*;
import fl.transitions.TweenEvent;
