Nov 16, 2009I've created a flash file which loads an image using loadMovie, this all works fine but what I need to be able to do is load different size images into the swf. I have tried changing the size of the swf in the embed tag and using the 'noscale' option, however the stage appears to be moved to the center (see screenshot), I need it to be at the top left.
I've also tried passing the new width and height to the swf via flashvars and then setting the size of the stage to these values, however this makes no difference to the outcome.
how I can create a flash movie that I can scale using the width and height parameters that doesn't scale the content and keeps the content in the top left corner?

I did find a post that mentioned the code "Stage.scaleMode = "noScale";" but when I add that to the first frame in my timeline, nothing happens.

Jun 11, 2009I am in the planning phase of a new multi-user client/server app using Flash via Flex and AIR. I am trying to decide which web platform/stack is the best suited for this? I have used RoR in the past, but as i understand, RoR is single-threaded, and is therefore not the ideal choice for handling potentially thousands of simultaneous requests. I have done some reading about Scala and Lift and that is an intriguing option, but i was wondering if there are other languages/frameworks out there that would work well for my project?

Aug 13, 2010As a UI specialist, I am often asked to build tool-tip displays and other sorts of popups that display text. One of styles clients seem most keen on is text in a comic-book balloon. I would like to create this balloons programmatically (as opposed to embedding or linking to rendered graphics), because these balloons will have to change size at runtime, depending on how much text they have to hold.
Balloons are easy to draw for the most part: circles, rectangles or rounded-corner rectangles. The tough part, for me, is the tail (the little arrow-like part of the comic balloon that points towards the speaker). If you google comic balloon, you see that there are many varieties of tails. They ones clients request from me most often are curved. E.g...

The tail will always be on the bottom of the balloon, and it will sometimes point left and sometimes point right. I have been trying to come up with tail-drawing algorithms for a while, but I'm not happy with the results. I'm basically stumbling around in the dark, changing variables, looking at the results, and using trial and error to try to move closer to the magic numbers that will work. "Work" just means a result that looks pleasing, which I realize is subjective. Most of my clients will be a happy with anything that looks reasonably good and professional.
I want this result to scale. And it would be great if it could work with as few inputs as possible, maybe just isFacingLeft, tailWidth and tailHeight (Which could maybe be a percentage of the whole balloon). Maybe an adjustable curveAmount.
If it matters, I'm using Flash/Actionscript, but any system that has some sort of turtle graphics engine should work pretty much the same way: I'm working with that standard flipped Cartesian grid (y increases downward), x and y coordinates, the ability to move a pen, draw lines and draw curves.One caveat: Flash only allows me to draw 3-point bezier curves -- start point, control point, end point.
Note: balloons won't have to scale after the are drawn.

How can I centre it without effecting the background? The full code I'm using on the first frame is below. I can centre all the content by changing Stage.align to "T", but then the background image has a nasty white space on the left hand side when the user resizes the browser.
I'm a flash newbie, can do some basics:

Jun 7, 2010I am currently building myself an online photography portfolio. I want scalable full screen photos. The only problem here is, photos are different sizes and landscape/portrait. This is what I have so far. [URL]. If you resize the browser to a different ratio to the landscape image, you see black margins top and bottom. I want the image to always bleed.

I have come quite a long way and i have made a site in flash but i just have a question.I have been using an image as my background and i am happy with the way flash automatically scales all the objects in my file but the background image does not scale. Is there a way to do this? I have found out things online which show me how to add auto-resizing to the background but this knocks off the flash auto scaling/resizing for everything else.

Aug 26, 2011I am trying to make a flash video with sound sweeping from 20Hz to 20kHz. The sound file is recorded with 44kHz sampling rate and stereo 16 bits resolution. I am hoping that the published Flash file would maintain the same sound quality. The problem is after I publish the design and play the swf file, the sound disappear around 3/4 of the way (near 4kHz). Could any one tells me what a good practice would be when dealing with sound files, is there any rules or prefered settings?

Mar 5, 2010I'm new ActionScript, and programming in general, however I've been doing a lot of tutorials and reading my Flash CS4 Bible, and cruising the forums like crazy trying to figure out how to go about scripting for my project.
Situation: I need to make an interactive flash movie that explains a painting.when you rollover different sections of the painting, I would like the rest of the painting to dim, and for that section to grow. if you are to roll out, it goes back to the first frame and the same thing happens for all of the sections.
If you are to click on any given section, there will be a voiceover, and possibly a little animation that goes along with it. if you either watch the whole thing or click anywhere on the painting, it should go back to frame.I've thought of a few ways to do it, but can't seem to get the scripting right.for now, I'm only worried about the first part because the rest is going to be similar.Frame 1 I have the painting and an invisible button over a section. frames 2-7 is that section growing and the rest of the painting getting dim there is a stop(); on frames 1 and 7

Make Flash Movie Fill Entire Browser?
Jul 17, 2010I have tried everything to get my Flash movie to completely fill the browser but to no avail. I have made the dimensions 100% w + h as well as making all the margins 0 px. Am I missing something as when I compare my HTML source code it seems the same as others but the result is with me having white borders around the published file.

signOutBtn.visible = false;
but when a user signs in
signInBtn.visible = false;
signOutBtn.visible = true;
But after I do that, I can't click the signOut movieclip. I thought it might be because the signOutBtn was under the invisible signInBtn but that is not the case.

Sep 11, 2010I have a web site that will have five sections. Let's call them 1,2,3,4,5. Section 1 starts on frame 100, 2 on 200, etc. Can I make an HTML link that can start the flash movie at the beginning of a certain section? Such as play "myflashmovie.swf and start on frame 200" so that the viewer will start on section 2?
Another way I was thinking of doing it was to create the five sections in five different flash movies. Then import those flash movies into one container flash movie but vary the order to whatever I want the viewer to start with. Then I would have five different html links. Each link would have a different section as the starting movie. Such as 1.html would play a container flash movie with section 1 at the beginning, 5.html would play a container flash movie with section 5 at the beginning, etc. My question here is could the five separate movies within the container movie make references to the other movies? Such as if someone was in movie 1 and it has link to movie 4, how would I note in the flash movie when user clicks here, go to movie 4?
