View 1 RepliesI am currently working on an AS3 where I need to fit many differently sized display objects within a rectangular boundary without them overlapping. If you take a look at this link, [URL]and take note of how the speech bubbles are able to align themselves in the swf without overlapping, this is pretty much exactly what I hope to achieve.

So, I've been trying to attempt to make it so a .flv video will fit to the entire screen of the browser window. ( I already have my file file fit to re-size to any browser on any computer. I just can't figure out how to make the video as well) And obviously an external video so the flash file wont take forever to load.
The point is this is to be able to have the Video be the background. So I may put content (Links, information or whatever else) on top of the video.
I have a 2 buttons and the mouse wheel enabled with zoom functionality. Generally this is the AS:

this works fine and dandy, but its not so smooth...is there a way to transition between the zoom sizes to make a fluid motion or maybe with an easing effect.can this be done with actionscript or is this more of a shape tween thing?
I want to be able to make a movie clip (that acts as a button) so the roll over effect finishes before the roll off effect is triggered. Like if a marker circles a button, i want the circling animation to stop before the roll off effects happens. Anyone know how to do this.

I'm trying to create a cursor that follows the mouse around and leaves a fading trail behind it, and know I would never put something so "1998" on my site, but I thought it would be fun to try and recreate one anyway for my own enjoyment. Okay this is the issue that I'm running into the fading ball cursor does actually work but for some odd reason after about 4 or 5 seconds it leaves a small trail behind it that does not fade all the way, it's almost as if code was resetting and starting all over by dropping the current execution of the code and starting over????

How can I refresh the textfield to effect stylesheet on it. My problem is, I have to assign a StyleSheet after assigned a htmlText assignment. I mean, if you set a stylesheet after htmlText assignment it is work, but if you assign stylesheet before assignment a html text it is not effect.

I have a button object that I need to scale to align with the variable width of an array of images.However, when I set the width in code, the button does not actually become that width. Tracing out the width gives me the correct value, but on screen.. it's off.
I've proved it to myself by scaling the same button object manually in the properties pane and visually comparing. Both of the buttons below have a width of 410.

I have create the "snow" effect with the linked tutorial, basically it manipulates the instance of an object on the canvas and calls the script in the actions on the animation load.However, I cant get the generated snow to show behind any other objects on the canvas.

You can see from the image the RedBox and the Border layers are above the SnowFlakes layer, I want them in front. How can I do that?
I cant get a spotlight effect with gradientfill to work right i create an object that represents the gradient and then i tween it from small to huge... and draw a box the size of the screen and fill it and on each updateMovement I redraw the gradient with a alpha 0 center and a 255 edge...but it doesnt center right at all...no matter what i do. It always is off Center...(oh Im using Stage.width/height since it needs to be dynamically resized based on browser...)

I have the elastic movement snippet (from Keith Peters), which works fine except for Flash 7 player and higher. In Flash 7 leafes just scatering outwith no elastic interaction. Compiler doesn't throw any errors.I tried Actionscript 2 static strict type variable declarations, but no success.

i dont understand why the easing effect doesnt work on my movieclip_mc ? I see so much fantastic effects we can do but tutorials are not really clear about easing : too much theory and not so much practical demos I m sure something like a basis position and an end position are missing?.

i found this nice Mac OS X Dock Menu effect on [URL] (the second link from the top), the thing is, it only works when it is published for flash player 6 or lower... why it doesn't work when it is published for flash player 7...
View 14 RepliesOn the stage I have 3 objects on the stage which are on top of each other:
top: transparent button (which controls the mc underneath)
under this button: an image which is a mc
under this image: a graphic background with text that describes the image, and a new trans button which will send the users to a separate url.
Problem:The button to go to the url does not work.
To make things simply, I have the top button setting the alpha of the mc to 0% onRollover, in order to view the text. And reset it to 100% on RollOut.
how I can still get this effect with the rollovers, and get my url button to work too?
I've created three keyframes on the main timeline, the first is empty, and so is the third. In the second I have a movieclip that contains a classic tween. The movieclip has an alpha of 0 at frame 1, and 100 at frame 15, then at 45 it does the same in reverse until frame 60. On the last frame (60) of my movie clip I have the code:

I am trying to make a sprite button with graphics and can't make it work. I have successfully added text fields so I know the path is correct. I suspected my code was correct and confirmed it should be, after reading several tutorials showing the process for creating sprite buttons with graphics. Anyway, I imported nearly every class on Earth, but certainly everything which needs to be. Stage is gray and 800x600.The graphics code by itself with appear, but not when linked to the sprite. Also, the sprite won't appear no matter what. Another interesting piece of the puzzle: nothing will trace, not even objects such as textfields which actually appear and function on the stage when I text the code.

i use the 3d feature alot, and there is often a lot of lag.this particullar flash project im working on has lots of high detail drawings and 3d.i have this 3d car I made, but whenever i add it to the stage, If i move my mouse at all, then everything disappears.
all drawing, and symbols gone i cant do anything with the car now because every time i try to use it, this happens!
However, they work in other examples, even locally, when I download the source.

I am trying to make a to-do list application. I would like it to save each time I close. So I researched shared objects, and somehow cannot get it to work. I hold all my "items" in an array, then copy that array to a shared object. Here is the code used to copy the array: At the top. I put the array in a Global class, just ignore the GlobalVars.vars. junk. It's not really necessary, but it definitely works everywhere. ListItem is a class I made that works fine by itself.

When this function is called, it equates the two arrays fine. I trace them both afterwards, and they have the same items in there. But when I close the .swf and reopen it, the saved array is full of undefined references. It has the same length, just nullifies everything it was supposed to have.
Has anyone successfully used hitTestObject on objects that weren't on the stage?
I have game code that works fine when the objects on are the stage, but replace "stage" with "this" (the game object that covers the whole stage) and it doesn't work.

View 1 RepliesI created a custom scroll bar, you can see it here [URL] My scroll dragger is not working. First, I have removed all of my code except my scroll bar code and my scroll dragger still doesn't work. If I remove all of my stage elements and leave my custom scroll bar on the stage, the scroll dragger works. If I try to add an object back onto the stage the scroll dragger stops working. It doesn't seem to matter what object I add back to the stage. There are no compile errors or output errors to fix. I even created a new fla and I am getting the same issue. Adding movie clips from the library to the stage prevents the dragger from working. I am really puzzled by this. I am using Flash CS3. I have added a zip file of my fla.
