View 12 RepliesI have some code that will be generating data into a TextField. However I want to be able to monitor when the TextField is updated, a function is called.
Currently the onChanged command will only work when a user has entered information into the TextField and not when data is inserted via actionscript.
how I can monitor the change to the TextField when using actionscript to input data, but work the same as the onChanged command?
I have a movie clip to display a clock and a datagrid for showing my schedule. I want my flash to alarm with sound when the time from the clock match one time on the schedule. Here is my actionscript:
Code:
clock_mc.onEnterFrame = function() {
if (_root.timer[i]==_root.clock_mc.clock_txt.text.substr(0,5)) {
alertSound = new Sound(alertSoundMc);
[Code]....
As you can see, I use onEnterFrame to listen and check matching between time on clock and schedule but it will check all the time and when it alarmed it produced sound all the time while the time is matched. I would like my flash to alarm only one or few times.
In Flex/ActionScript 3, is there a better way to monitor the date/time to determine if the date has changed to the next day by creating a timer that dispatches every minute?
View 1 RepliesI'm working on a drag-drop solution, and acting when a item is dropped on the current target (let's say an "intelligent chess-board") is a breeze, as the board fires DragEvents when items are hovering over on dropped on the it.
What I'm looking for is a way to make the board act when an item is dragged OFF the itself. Of course - when the item is dropped somewhere else, I could fire an event there and tell the board that change has been done. But this is what I want to avoid.
I wonder if there is some way to monitor a change in the displaylist of the "board", so it fires an event when a child/element is removed from "outside"?
Monitors are different sizes so does a flash player change to fit
i changed this as i have no replies is this not this would be common process to change, the size of the screen to fit different size browsers.
Is it posible to make a flash site, which will change the size when the vistors resolution is diferent? Practicly, every visitor will see the same size of the site, even if he has 800x600 or 1280x1024??Maybe making html go fullscreen but make the swf occupy only 80% of the screen, so it always have the same proportion to the users monitors.Do you have any example?

I am making a game in AS3 / Adobe AIR that requires the user to react to certain sounds. Is there a way to inform the user up front if the system volume is muted? Moreover, is there a method to change the volume? If not, does an external cross-platform application exist that lets me monitor the volume and that I can call from Adobe AIR?
View 1 RepliesDoes the value of Stage.stageWidth or Stage.stageHeight change as per the screen-resolution, monitor-size, browser etc ?
View 2 RepliesI have MovieClip with TextField in, how can I dispatch when change text in TextField or remove TextField or add something else.
View 3 RepliesI want to know is there anyway to invisible title bar for a AS3 project? and how to force program to use fix resolution and change monitor resolution to what we want?
View 1 RepliesI've got a flash document using AS3. It dynamically reads data from an XML file, and creates a bunch of single line textFields. Could be like this:
<XMLdata>
<Line>this is line 1</Line>
<Line>this is line 2</Line>
<Line>this is line 3</Line>
</XMLdata>
So, for each node, it would create a new TextField, and change the textField.y value so that they are "stacked" on top of each other. All this if fine, except that if you hae so many "lines" (or textfields) that the "stack" is taller than the Flash Document size. What I would like to do is have a scroll bar or something so you can scroll the stack of TextFields. Doesnt' even need to be a scroll bar. Maybe an arrow button at the bottom, and when you click on it, it scrolls down. One for up too.
My scene has a TextField object. I set up my TextField as DynamicText because I need to change it programmatically.
How do I prevent mouse cursor change to I-Beam form when it's above TextField? Also, user of my flash application is able to select text of this TextField using mouse cursor. I would like to disable this behavoiur too.
How can I make a button that, when pressed, changes a textfield (with a scrollbar) to a different textfield (with a scrollbar) in the same place? Essentially (I think), using a button to swap an element and make it fade in or out.
View 3 RepliesFrom what I understand you can change the alpha value of a textfield to be fully transparent. I would like to have chat output that fades after a while. I was wondering if there was a way to change just a portion of the string inside of a text field to transparent. The textColor does not have an alpha value. I could just use multiple text fields but I would like to avoid doing that if possible for efficiency sake.
View 1 RepliesIf I create a TextField in ActionScript 3, I can change the width with a TextFormat, but how do I change the height?Example:
var label : TextField = new TextField();
label.text = "Hello World!";
label.background = true;

How do I change the CSS rules for a TextField that already has style associated with it ?
This TextField is inside a RichTextEditor.
Here's the code I'm trying:
_rSts: StyleSheet = new StyleSheet();
_rSts.parseCSS('font {font-family:Verdana; font-size:12;}');
_rTextField.styleSheet = _rSts;
but when I assign the new StyleSheet to the TextField it throws an exception stating that I cannot assign a style to an element already containing a style.
I'm new to this and I'm following a tutorial on Kongregate.com that teaches you the basics of making a flash game. This is what the tutorial said to do:
ActionScript Code:
import flash.text.TextField;
import flash.text.TextFormat;
[Code]...
Is there a way to add a glow to text using actionscript, specify all the details including which color and how much spread, etc
View 3 RepliesI have a textfield which loads dynamic text. After this text is loaded i want to be able to change the size/position of the field with the click of a button. (To a set value, not for the user to drag bigger etc).
View 1 RepliesWhen adding textFields dynamically, as well as the TextFormat, it seems that the textFormat needs to be applied every time the text is changed. So if I have:
TxtFld.text = 'This is some text';
txtFld.setTextFormat(txtFormat);
That works. But, if i add the line:
txtFld.text = 'This is the new Text'
Then the format is lost. How can I make it so that I can change the text of the textfield, and not lose the formatting I've already applied?
change the content of the textfield.

I'm trying to make a static class that will change the text written in a TextField inside a SWF file.
In this case I have a MovieClip with a TextField inside with a message. I want to be able to make a class that giving this TextField and a message, that will change in the button.
Certainly that I'm forgetting something obvious, I get the correct trace messages, but the textfield disappears. The initial text is "Start" and I want to change that to "OK". For now I just want to change the text, but after I want to be able to change the text format.
So far I have this:
package
{
import flash.display.MovieClip;
public class ChangeTextField extends MovieClip
[Code]....
How can I change the select ("highlight") color of an TextField in actionscript 3? I've got an input textfield with white text on a black backdrop and as a result, selections are invisible, which is horrible for usability.
View 2 RepliesI created a MovieClip symbol in flash containing a dynamic TextField and a background. I exported it in a SWC(using this method) and I'm trying to use it from flex. When I try to change the default value of the text field the new value is not displayed(indeed the default value I put in flash is cleared on screen, but in the debugger it shows that the new value is set in the text field)
View 1 RepliesI'm making a form and I add a DateField, and I would like to change the background font of the textField where the date selected is written but I don't know what I should change, I try with backgroundColor, Color, ColorFont and I just get to change the color of the text.
View 2 RepliesI have this code that should change the color of a dynamic textfield when I rollover the link movieclip, and then back when I rollout. I get no compiler error, it just doesn't work.
function textColor(mc_function:MovieClip, tf_text:TextField) {
mc_function.onRollOver = function() {
tf_text.textColor = 0x7cb0b7;
[code].....
I have 3 text field and i want to change its background when it is focused and change it back to white when the focus is lost.
I tried keeping background = true and border = true, but still i can't change the background.
Also when i keep tf.backgroundColor = 0x00FF00 outside the onSetFocus method then the textfield contains that background.
I get a MovieClip from a swf that contains a TextField with the text "Test".I'm in the 1st frame and change the text to "Changed". Everything is fine.I go to the second frame of the mc but then the text is "Test" again! The changes are not made on the second frame. So I tried to change the text in the second frame too but the TextField in the mc is equal null!.
