Not sure where to place this code in the script below.(inserting it causes font to initially to be correct size of 20 but changes back to default when a mouse click is issued)[code]...
the idea it's to have a textfield of 200px width where the username gets loaded. The thing is that i need the font size to be as big as possible to fit in that textfield. So if the username is shorter the font size should increase if the username is longer the font size should decrease. So I am guessing i should be counting character and knowing how big each character is and then according to that make a mad algorithm to set the font size to make the text fit.
I've got a bunch of text boxes that I need to be able to change the text size of with the click of a button. All the text needs to be embedded so I tried to use a tlf text field and target it but to no avail. This is what i have.
ActionScript Code: import flash.events.MouseEvent; fifteen_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, changeSize); function changeSize(evt:MouseEvent):void {
If the persons name is only 3 letters I want the font size to be 120 but based on the amount of characters, I would like to shrink the font size in order to fit the whole name inside the text field. I was playing with autosize, but couldn't get it to work.
making a textfield font size auto adjust accordingly?
I am a newbie in Flash CS3. How to resize the width of of a movie clip according to the size the size of dynamic text inside it. I did it by creating a text field 'myText' and then converted it to a MovieClip symbol and named the MovieClip as myClip. The text in myText is assigned at run-time and its width changes according to the text.
I did it as follows:- myClip.myText.selectable = false; myClip.mouseChildren = false; myClip.useHandCursor = true; myClip.buttonMode = true; myClip.myText.width = myClip.myText.textWidth + 5;
On doing this I find the clickable area changes according to the size of the text field but the text field doesn't appear at all.
I want to reduce the size of Swf using the size mentioned in the object tag of html. Same swf file size can be different for different request.
The problem is this if we reduce the size all control in swf reduced according to the change in swf size. But we want the buttons and one more graphics remain same size for any change in size of swf file. How can we make it ..
I've got a flash document using AS3. It dynamically reads data from an XML file, and creates a bunch of single line textFields. Could be like this:
<XMLdata> <Line>this is line 1</Line> <Line>this is line 2</Line> <Line>this is line 3</Line> </XMLdata>
So, for each node, it would create a new TextField, and change the textField.y value so that they are "stacked" on top of each other. All this if fine, except that if you hae so many "lines" (or textfields) that the "stack" is taller than the Flash Document size. What I would like to do is have a scroll bar or something so you can scroll the stack of TextFields. Doesnt' even need to be a scroll bar. Maybe an arrow button at the bottom, and when you click on it, it scrolls down. One for up too.
My scene has a TextField object. I set up my TextField as DynamicText because I need to change it programmatically.
How do I prevent mouse cursor change to I-Beam form when it's above TextField? Also, user of my flash application is able to select text of this TextField using mouse cursor. I would like to disable this behavoiur too.
trying to build a Textfield dynamically in AS2/F8. I can't seem to get the text size to be larger than 127, and I am wondering if there is an upper limit when building them in AS. I have a class that has the following static method, which works well (for any size less than 127 apparently) If I pass in 200 as my nSize arg, when I trace(t.getTextFormat(0,1).size) i get 127 every time.
Code: public static function makeTextbox(target, clipName, depth, w,h,fontSymbol, nColor,nSize,txValue){
I'm building text balloons to display variable length messages in Flash. My question is pretty simple, though the answer may not be.The string I want to display.The font information.The width/height ratio I want the text field to have.How do I calculate the width and height of the text field it needs to display the text I give it, nothing more, nothing less?
How can I create in ActionScript a singleline textfield that automatically shrinks the textsize so that whatever string shall be displayed fits within the size of the textfield?
how to get my dynamic textfield height and send it to a javascript to resize my embedded swf. I have been digging around for 2 days now and can't figure out how to do this. I've found lots of examples on sending text back and forth but not on how to send the height.
I am trying to create a circle movie clip with a text field child, so that when the movie clip changes size, the text field does as well. My code is posted below. Everything seems to be working when the text field is not in the display list, but when i add the text field as a child of the movie clip, the tween get's all weird. I am using flash cs4.
Not really a AS3 issue, but I'm having a bunch of trouble changing the font size in a text field that pulls data from and XML file. I've changed every font size with the css file, but it doesn't result in any changes with the swf. If it's really that simple the XML and CSS are both here. Or if more is needed, here is the entire project.

Really not enjoying myself with AS3 - it's about as userfriendly as an airplane cockpit. I'm sure Flash the program is quite happy with it, but spending hours into weeks trying to implement pretty ordinary functionality is getting really tiring.
I have a textfield loading in html/CSS file. The textfield is in a container mc. I'm trying to use a scrollbar on the textfield, and I need to set the textfield to newsText.autoSize = "left";. When I do this, the textfield displays the entire contents of the html file in the swf, ignoring the textfield size AND the mc size, displaying all the lines in the file in howover many lines are in the html file.
I'm autocenting my swf in the browser, so this of course throws the whole thing off center.
I figured out how to get a TextField to maintain focus when the tab key is pressed (using an event listener on FocusEvent.KEY_FOCUS_CHANGE), but what I'd like to do is control the size of the tab character in the TextField so that it is equal to five spaces. (I would just insert five spaces when the tab key is pressed, however due to requirements this is not an option.) Is this possible?
When i made a textfield and i specified the font size 10 points and choosen a font and than later resize the textfield to the size i want and i than type in text, he scales the text size. The properties window says its still 10 points but it is not.
How can i make a textfield the size that i want without losing my textsize settings ?
if it's possible to prevent a textfield from auto-scrolling on highlight when it's height is smaller than it's autoSize height. selectable = false is not an option, and the smaller height is a requirement, can't make it proper height and then mask it.
I have a masked textbox which is also dynamically added to the stage from the library, and I'd like it to resize according to the amount of text loaded into it.this isn't working:
I'm attempting to make a Textfield that is a fixed size and that replaces the overflow text that an ellipse (...). Has anyone found any clever ways to do this?
i want to know how did the creator of otradesign accomplish the effect in his site like the menu and the main contents change size and the menu position according to the size of main contents.
