Aug 15, 2009I'm pretty new to Flash. I have slowly built up an .fla file to its current size of 44MB. It is in AS3 (CS4) and has numerous jpegs imported into it with animated masks over each.I am now experiencing multiple issues that have made it impossible to work on it.
1. A week ago I started occasionally getting "Flash has has unexpectedly quit" error messages, whereupon Flash would crash. This was before I started adding many of the jpegs and the file size was still something like 5MB. Now I receive these messages almost constantly - If I try to open a second file within Flash or when I just work in my main file for a few minutes.
2. A few days I ago I started getting a few random messages saying "error initializing java runtime environment you may need to reinstall flash". This was fixed by simply restarting Flash, but still troublesome.
3. Rarely I would finish working on something and try to test the movie. It would go through the loading bar, but then nothing would happen. The only way to fix this was to go back to a previous file version and rebuild from there. My current file save has this problem.
Now I am stuck because I have to go back quite a ways to find a file that will successfully test. On top of that if I try to import one of my new movieClips into the older file version, Flash of course crashes.
Is the file too big? It doesn't feel like I'm doing that much. I've definately seen flash sites that have way more going on than mine. Could it be all the imported jpegs? Could I be importing them in a bad way? How can I avoid/fix these issues?

Jan 16, 2008trying to build a Textfield dynamically in AS2/F8. I can't seem to get the text size to be larger than 127, and I am wondering if there is an upper limit when building them in AS. I have a class that has the following static method, which works well (for any size less than 127 apparently) If I pass in 200 as my nSize arg, when I trace(t.getTextFormat(0,1).size) i get 127 every time.

Jan 15, 2009I am trying to add a listener to a textfield and determine when it is changed that a screen box behind the textfield is resized to fit.

I've changed every font size with the css file, but it doesn't result in any changes with the swf. If it's really that simple the XML and CSS are both here. Actionscript 3.0 :: Dinamically Change The Font Size To Fit In A Textfield?
Sep 30, 2010the idea it's to have a textfield of 200px width where the username gets loaded. The thing is that i need the font size to be as big as possible to fit in that textfield. So if the username is shorter the font size should increase if the username is longer the font size should decrease. So I am guessing i should be counting character and knowing how big each character is and then according to that make a mad algorithm to set the font size to make the text fit.

Mar 3, 2010Really not enjoying myself with AS3 - it's about as userfriendly as an airplane cockpit. I'm sure Flash the program is quite happy with it, but spending hours into weeks trying to implement pretty ordinary functionality is getting really tiring.
I have a textfield loading in html/CSS file. The textfield is in a container mc. I'm trying to use a scrollbar on the textfield, and I need to set the textfield to newsText.autoSize = "left";. When I do this, the textfield displays the entire contents of the html file in the swf, ignoring the textfield size AND the mc size, displaying all the lines in the file in howover many lines are in the html file.
I'm autocenting my swf in the browser, so this of course throws the whole thing off center.

Mar 2, 2010I figured out how to get a TextField to maintain focus when the tab key is pressed (using an event listener on FocusEvent.KEY_FOCUS_CHANGE), but what I'd like to do is control the size of the tab character in the TextField so that it is equal to five spaces. (I would just insert five spaces when the tab key is pressed, however due to requirements this is not an option.) Is this possible?

Jun 7, 2005When i made a textfield and i specified the font size 10 points and choosen a font and than later resize the textfield to the size i want and i than type in text, he scales the text size. The properties window says its still 10 points but it is not.

Apr 18, 2010if it's possible to prevent a textfield from auto-scrolling on highlight when it's height is smaller than it's autoSize height. selectable = false is not an option, and the smaller height is a requirement, can't make it proper height and then mask it.

If the persons name is only 3 letters I want the font size to be 120 but based on the amount of characters, I would like to shrink the font size in order to fit the whole name inside the text field. I was playing with autosize, but couldn't get it to work.

Flash - Change MovieClip Width Along With Dynamic TextField Size Inside
Apr 21, 2009I am a newbie in Flash CS3. How to resize the width of of a movie clip according to the size the size of dynamic text inside it. I did it by creating a text field 'myText' and then converted it to a MovieClip symbol and named the MovieClip as myClip. The text in myText is assigned at run-time and its width changes according to the text.
I did it as follows:-
myClip.myText.selectable = false;
myClip.mouseChildren = false;
myClip.useHandCursor = true;
myClip.buttonMode = true;
myClip.myText.width = myClip.myText.textWidth + 5;
On doing this I find the clickable area changes according to the size of the text field but the text field doesn't appear at all.

Apr 28, 2010So ive been asked to build a page for a real state company and the guy told me it should be similar to these [URL] Ive been trying a couple of weeks so far, but i dont seem to find a way to do somthing similar, i mean, i want to have the welcome screen as those two:
- the gradient background
- flash occupies whole screen no matter what size it is
- gradient expands sideways infinately
- no matter what height my explorer window is, gradient is always in the same position relative to top, and if i keep expanding downwards the background keeps last colour of the gradient.
- the brand logo looks as if it had top, left and right anchors, and it also limitates the minimum width of the explorer window
i though of addind a 3000 x 3000px square with the gradient and centering it, but i know there has to be a professional way of achieving that.

Jun 8, 2010I am trying to build a flash that auto-adjust its size to the browser window size, while leaving the content of the flash itself top-centered in the screen.I have found this solution [URL].. on How to keep centered stuff in this exact case so i am pretty confident i will be able to adjust that script to do what i want.
Now my problem is that if i put my content inside the movie-clip (centerrectangle) with all the animation require, link and other stuff, the movieclip (center rectangle ) never have the exact same center, thus making the script go wild trying to always adjust the location to the variable size of the movie clip.
