However, with this setup the function hit() is called automatically every time I publish the movie. What's wrong with this? What's the difference between mc.onRelease = function; and mc.onRelease = function()?
and none of them work. The function is "onpauseButton" and it is inside of "content" which is inside of "scrollb" which is inside of "datalist." I'm trying to call it from datalist's neighboring movie clip so that it activates along with another function:
manualButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_ClickToLoadFile_1); function fl_ClickToLoadFile_1(event:MouseEvent):void{ navigateToURL(new URLRequest("M-23 6263.pdf"), "_blank");// want to add the onpauseButton code here }
I recall that there is a way to do it, I just can't find the right sequence. Everything online is about how to call up to a function outside of the movie clip and not down to a function inside of one.
Does anyone one know if it is possible to call a function from a different movie clip than the one it is in. For example, a function named loadData() which is on the first frame of a movie clip instance named thumbNail which is on level 0 on the stage i was thinking that it should work to call the function from frame one on the stage with..
Suppose I have three different movie clips. mc_A, mc_B, mc_C I want to have a rollover call a function that changes each movie clip. But I don't want to type it out like this:
Above you will see that I used this, it made sense to me, but this always refers to the main timeline (root in my case). So how do I pass the name of hte clip I am rolling over to a function?
I have a child movie clip attached to the parent via the flash interface. The child is running a timer via code on its (the child's) timeline. When the timer finishes it needs to trigger a function on the parent's timeline. All the examples show how to trigger a function on the child - that is easy and I have got that working.
I have a frame with a quiz question and three answer options. The three answer options are movie clips. Their instance names are q1_soundA, q1_soundB, and q1_soundC. I want each option to make a different sound when rolling over them. My sounds are already in the library and they have been linked: each one has a unique identifier (a, b, and c) and "Export for ActionScript" and "Export in first frame" are checked. Under frame properties, sound is none, sync is event, and repeat is 1.
I have a separate layer with the following code in the first frame (the quiz question is in the second frame):
var snd_a = new Sound();snd_a.attachSound("a"); var snd_b = new Sound();snd_b.attachSound("b"); var snd_c = new Sound();snd_c.attachSound("c");
[Code].....
Note: I also have three transparent buttons underneath each movie clip. I am using these buttons and some code to record the answers and calculate a score. This part is working fine though.
Problem: As soon as the quiz question frame is displayed, the first sound is played over and over again even if the cursor is not even close to any of the option answers. It doesn't matter where I move or click, the sound keeps playing all the time.
I am getting an unexpected behaviour when using the onRollOver event with a movieclip.The onRollOver behaviour is initialised after some animation. This allows me to hold my cursor over the movieclip. When the initialise function adds the onRollOver event function to the clip, it triggers, even though my cursor is already over the clip and a nice animated glow is added to the movieclip. This is good and the behaviour I want.
onRelease the movieclip I call a disable function and this sets the onRollOver event function to null. After some more devestatingly good animation, I reuse the initialise function to reset the onRollOver event function to react again. This time, if my cursor is already over the clip when the onRollOver is initialised, the onRollOver does not fire.
Code:
function wsInitNodes():Void{ wsCurrentNode.onRollOver = function(){ // Do groovy animation stuff };
Scene1->MovieClip1->Image1(as a button)Scene1->MovieClip2->MovieClip3->MovieClip4->frame1Now I want to call frame1 from Img1 have a parent Scene1 common.How can I do this.I have tried
i have a loop that attaches clips of the picFrame to a holder clip based on the number of childNodes. how do i target the selected picFrame clip and have it call the function resizeFrame to change the width of just the border clip inside the picFrame the onRelease was chosen? i realize under the resize function i have it targeting the holder clip's width. i just don't know what else to do and i've tried many else's.
i'm trying to call a function on a clip, but i want to use a variable that i'm sending to the clip so that when the one function gets done it knows what to do next.
I really have two questions: How do I affect both a movie clip and its child movie clip in the same function? and how do I pull info from one component into a function for another? My basic setup is a movie clip of font choices, one on each frame: "bodyText_mc." Each of these frames has a child clip "bodyText_mc.bodyText" with alignment choices for the font. For instance, the user picks "Script" in the first ComboBox and then picks "Align Right" in the second. (All of this text is static because I need more design control that I can get with dynamic text.)
First of all, I have a combobox "cbBodyFont" that I use to go from frame to frame on movieclip "bodyText_mc." This works nicely:
The question is, How do you apply a function to a movie clip inside a movie clip inside a movie clip. So there are three mc and I need to apply the function to the inner most one.
Here is what I have. The 'a' is in 'spin_4' wich needs to be in 'portal'.
I'm a bit confused in AS3, after long developing in 1 & 2. I'm doing a radioplayer, so I did set my document to be of document class: RadioPlayer. Here is everything ok, sound playing etc. Now my client wants to add a volume button. So I made a movieclip of class VolumeManager. Now, to change the volume, I want my clip to call a public function of RadioPlayer.
As RadioPlayer is the document class I don't know how to reference it inside VolumeManager to call its public function. In AS2, I would say: _root.setSoundVolume(volume);
I want to loop through a movie clip and assign a function to each of the clip's child movieclips. when i do a for...in loop and then do a typeof() trace I get "string" and obviously it won't let me assign lets say 'onRollOver' functions to the children.
Here's a simple one I'm sure but I can't get it to work or find a solution online. I have a movie with 2 movie clips on the stage, the first clip is triggered to play on a button click (which works fine) but I want the 2nd clip to start playing when the first ends. I've tried putting MovieClip2.gotoAndPlay(1) script on the last frame of MovieClip1 but I get "1120: Access of undefined property".
I have created several buttons using movie clips with animations and the 'rewind=true'method when someone mouses off. What I am wondering is, if I have 2 buttons on the stage and I want to animate both of them if one or the other is moused over at the same time, how can this be accomplished
I have a movie with 3 frames. The first is a place holder for a loader and has some actionscript in my actions layer saying "on click goto 2" etc. The second and third frames hold movie clips, these movieclips hold many layers and have their own actions layers.
Say I am inside the frame 2 movie clip, in the actions for frame1 of that movie clip, I am trying to say goto frame 3 of the root and call a function from the movieclip that lives in frame 3.
I want to use a variable in my movie clip code. Right now I generate a random U.S. state name and assign it to "correctAnswer". Then I want to assign that to myMovieClip.correctAnswer.gotoAndStop("down"); The problem is that the variable is not recognized and is seen as correctAnswer instead of the U.S. state that was assigned to it. My code is below.
ActionScript Code: // Correct answer is randomly generated and can be any U.S. state name correctAnswer = "utah"; // Using the variable correctAnswer this should come out as myMovieClip.utah.gotoAndStop("down"); myMovieClip.correctAnswer.gotoAndStop("down");
I'm trying to call a scene from a movie clip. But nothing works. I tried to label the first frame in the second scene but that didn't work, root and crap also failed. I'm deparate. I was trying to link the chalkboard from the first scene (clipboard) to the second scene (board). There is a button within the movieclip I'm trying to use, but it just doesn't work.
I can dynamically assign a movie clip name, but I don't know how to call the clip name.Notice in the following code, I assign each new movie clip a name: ActionScript Code:"memberClip"+x
I can't figure out how to call each one. I've tried: ActionScript Code: ["memberClip"+x].loadmovie
I have an interactive movieclip called "AS2Clip" which was programmed in AS2. So when this movieclip is loaded within an AS3 application, does the AS2 native code still functions as it would if it was loaded within an AS2 Application?
I'm trying to call a scene from a movie clip. But nothing works. I tried to label the first frame in the second scene but that didn't work, root and crap also failed. I'm deparate. I really need help now. I was trying to link the chalkboard from the first scene (clipboard) to the second scene (board). There is a button within the movieclip I'm trying to use, but it just doesn't work.
I want to display a Flash video in a popup window, and when the video has finished playing, close the window using a javascript function "closeIt":
<script> function closeIt() { alert("About to close...");
[code]....
How can I achieve this? I have imported a video into Flash (choosing "load external video with playback component"). This is in frame1. I thought that in the second frame I could make a call to ExternalInterface.call("closeIt") in the Actions window. I have tried this, but when I publish and view the flash movie in a web brower, I never see the javascript alert.
