Actionscript 3.0 :: Scale DisplayObject Based On Visible Bounds

Nov 5, 2010

I've been banging my head trying to figure out how to get this to work with no success... I have a class that extends MovieClip which loads a large image into it. This image has a mask applied to it to only display a specific section of the image. I need to be able to scale this MovieClip based on it's visible width & height while maintaining it's proportions.

I'm currently using Collin Moocks' approach (see it here:[URL]) to get the visible width and height of the movieclip, but I can't figure out how to get it to scale correctly based on those dimensions... Preferably I'd like to be able to set it's visible scaleX & scaleY properties similar to how you currently set the scaleX & scaleY, (i.e. movieclip.visibleScaleX = 1.5).

Flex :: Make A Container Resize Based On The Size Of Its Contents?

Mar 16, 2010

I'm trying to create a Flex application that can automatically shrink based on the size of the components that it contains, so that a user can shrink it to a minimal view to see more of the HTML page it's embedded in.

I know how to change the size of the whole application using ExternalInterface, but I'm having trouble automatically figuring out how much the size changed when something is hidden or shown.

For example:

Let's say I have the following flex layout:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="vertical">
<mx:VBox width="100%" paddingTop="0" paddingBottom="0"

[Code]....

How can I hide one of the text fields and cause the VBox to shrink? I'm currently setting it to visible = false, but that doesn't seem to affect the parent VBox.

Once the VBox shrinks, how can I detect that the Application no longer needs so much space, and then go about figuring out how much less space it needs?

I've tried using ResizeEvent, but I haven't been able to get them to work, but I could be doing something wrong.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Movie Clip Resize Yscale Based Off Dynamic Text Height

May 26, 2010

I'm using a tweening engine and I need to be able to base the _yscale % of a movie clip off the height of a dynamic text field that is slightly smaller contained within the movie clip. 52 pixels smaller to be exact.I'm very poor at math but I'm guessing so far that some variable needs to be declared to factor the percentage based off the height of the dynamic text field. And I just can't think of how to do that.What I know so far:movie clip height at 100% _yscale = 396 the 'buffer' space above and below the dynamic field = 52.So if my dynamic text field height = 0, my movie clip would be 52 pixels in height. And that percentage in _yscale is 13.1%.I just can't figure out the math for this and how to translate it into ActionScript.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Mask Mc Going Out Of Bounds

Nov 10, 2011

Although I put _x = player._x etc. code in an onEnterFrame function the masking mc is moving without the player

You see...the player is held within some borders. When cornered and then hit, the mask moves according to how it would move normally, but without the player (because he is held in place by some borders)...

Also, if I don't have a problem but I'm missing a crucial piece of code,

code on masking mc

ActionScript Code:
stop();
this._x = _root.player._x;
this._y = _root.player._y;
radiance = 180 / Math.PI;

Flash :: Web Based Visual Programming Interface Based On Python For Data Visualization

Nov 4, 2011

I just discovered impure.com and was very impressed by what can be achieved in terms of visualizing data using their workspace. Although the platform is free to use, but not open source yet. This causes a few problems because the API section works with .com sites for eg. for ebay, so I cannot visualize ebay listings for regional sites such as ebay.in because the link to ebay.com is hardcoded.I searched around, but didn't find other projects that offer a similar way to work with site APIs and other data sources with the kind of user interface and detail that impure.com does in a realtime way within a browser window.This brings me to the questions:

-What technologies would be involved in creating a similar kind of project

-What are the open source tools that can help develop a fullscreen UI to render the workspace. Are there any alternatives to flash for this, and how do they compare

The goal would be to use standard python data structures, python scripts to do some processing on these data structures, scripts to gather data from csv, json and API sources such as google yahoo, wikipedia and flickr, and scripts to render graphs, tag clouds, network visualizations etc. Then bring them all together into a visual interface that supports drag drop and simple type checking.How would the python backend integrate with the UI.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Monitor Whether An Mc Is Inside Bounds Of Another?

I am wondering if there is an easy way of monitoring whether or not an mc is within the boundaries of another mc while it is being dragged. Currently I am using different equations to determine the leftmost, rightmost, topmost and bottommost points of each mc and then when they are being dragged comparing their x,y coordinates. Is there an easier way... I ask because this seems to be quite a lot of code to get through for such a simple operation, especially when the function containing the code is being called each time the mouse moves..

[code]...

Then I have a mask in the center of the stage and user sees a portion of the map and is allowed to scroll to move mouse around to see areas around the focused city.

[code]...

I put this numbers in by playing around but where are these values exactly coming from. I have tried everything(every possible way) but cant figure out what are these values. I need to numbers to be dynamic so I can change the focus to different cities(for example when a user click A city A should be seen inside the mask and so on).How can I make these values dynamic instead of hard coding them.
