I'm trying to have a movieclip i have as a background for a textfield resize based on the size of the textfield.
I tried this with no luck:

how can i make a movieclip and a textfield to resize to the content of the text in the textfield? I mean, if I have a textfield with 3 letters font name XXX and then the content of the field change, how can i resize te textfield so the text dont autoadjust to the 3 letter space?

What I am trying to do is similar to [url]... but unfortunately this is written in AS1 and doesnt help me much!I know I need to use the ExternalInterface but I am very new to AS3 and am not sure how to do this. View 0 RepliesI'm trying to create a Flex application that can automatically shrink based on the size of the components that it contains, so that a user can shrink it to a minimal view to see more of the HTML page it's embedded in.
I know how to change the size of the whole application using ExternalInterface, but I'm having trouble automatically figuring out how much the size changed when something is hidden or shown.
For example:
Let's say I have the following flex layout:

How can I hide one of the text fields and cause the VBox to shrink? I'm currently setting it to visible = false, but that doesn't seem to affect the parent VBox.
Once the VBox shrinks, how can I detect that the Application no longer needs so much space, and then go about figuring out how much less space it needs?
I've tried using ResizeEvent, but I haven't been able to get them to work, but I could be doing something wrong.

View 4 RepliesI'm using a tweening engine and I need to be able to base the _yscale % of a movie clip off the height of a dynamic text field that is slightly smaller contained within the movie clip. 52 pixels smaller to be exact.I'm very poor at math but I'm guessing so far that some variable needs to be declared to factor the percentage based off the height of the dynamic text field. And I just can't think of how to do that.What I know so far:movie clip height at 100% _yscale = 396 the 'buffer' space above and below the dynamic field = 52.So if my dynamic text field height = 0, my movie clip would be 52 pixels in height. And that percentage in _yscale is 13.1%.I just can't figure out the math for this and how to translate it into ActionScript.

I've got the "Flash-Based Email Form Using PHP" working fine, when I use it on a regular swf. But when I use it loaded into a different swf, the text fields are invisible! It's working fine, and I get the messages, but I can't see what I'm typing! Seems like every textfield I add is invisible, not matter what. (input text).

If the persons name is only 3 letters I want the font size to be 120 but based on the amount of characters, I would like to shrink the font size in order to fit the whole name inside the text field. I was playing with autosize, but couldn't get it to work.

I've got a textfield creater that creates a nice textfield when I hover over a moveable button. However, when I click and drag that button around the flash movie, the text field disapears off the edge of the screen if I get to close to the right side. Can I adjust the width of the textfield as the mouse is moving closer to the edge?

As per the title, my flash swf file works fine when tested from the IDE, but when I publish it and open it through the browser, the stage doesn't seem to resize along with the window.I post below a bare-bones example. I have Buttons which I have rotated vertically within a Canvas, that is working fine. The problem occurs, when the user resizes the window to a small size a vertical scroll bar appears, I would rather have each button squashed upto a smaller size.

I have a main movie here that loads in an external swf through a container mc. everything is aligned and positioned to where it should be, and they are also set to that value onresize. the problem is, when my swf is loaded in, it works fine and is in the right position, same when you resize it. BUT, if you resize the window before the swf is loaded, it misaligns, until you resize!!
