View 2 RepliesI'm trying to do a demo with a fastforward button and a rewind button that will go to the next scene and previous scene...however, due to the format that my predecessor created used...I'm stuck with alot of scenes. The navbar (ff and rewind buttons) is in a .swf file called main. The actual demo is in demo3.swf. I created a loader scene to redirect to the correct scene (when ff and rewind are hit), but I'm not sure how to pass the variables needed from the main movie.

View 8 RepliesI have my flash document set up in the following way: On the main timeline I have my buttons that I want to play movie clips embedded inside a movie clip on the main timeline.However, when I click each different button, the current movie clip stops playing and then the movie clip corresponding to the button plays.
I want them all to be able to play at once. So for example you push button 1 and the alien plays, but half way through you could click button 2 and the alien clip would keep playing, but also the helicopter clip would begin to play as well.Here is the code I have so far:

I am creating a full site in flash. The main movie has an empty movie clip in the middle of the movie to load external movies as the user clicks on the links. Everything has worked good so far as the linking has only gone 1 level deep. However, when I created a new external movie, and had buttons on it for another external page, but yet to open in the main movie, I can't get anything to work. Example.... In the main movie, the user clicks on the archive link, and the external archive movie is loaded into the main movie. Now, on this archive movie, there is a button on it that links to a another movie (say text effects.swf). However, when they click this button for text effects, I can't get it to load into the main movie clip and replace the archive movie that was currenlty there.
View 14 RepliesI'm working on a lot of different flash applications Most of those applications are visual and involves the main stage.I started oop a while ago and i got to a point that %99.9 percent of my code is extracted to different classes.There is one thing that repeat on a regular basis on all of my apps, passing the Stage variable to the different classes....It's working great but it doesnt feel right that i need to pass the main stage as a variable between the different classes,is there a better way to access the stage from external classes ? can i make the main stage a static property and access itwithin all the objects in the application ?

I wonder if it is possible to pass values from external .swf files to the main projector (.exe) file.? I would also like to know how a button of an external swf file can control the playhead of the main .exe file.
I have this map of tasks. and each map have these houses which when clicked will take you to a certain task(external swf). and when accomplished should have a button to take you back to the map(main swf), and also the button to send a value to the main swf that the task is accomplished.
I load a movie into my main movie. From that movie I want to load a third movie back onto my main movie. I tried _root from inside the second movie but it loads the third movie in the second.
View 5 Repliesi found a script that unloads my external swf inside a movieclip when i click a button on my main screen. this script causes the external flash inside my moviclip to close and unload when i click the close button, which is what i want!. the only pain in the butt is it preloads the external flash when you go the flash site and i dont want that. i only want the script to close the external swf. if anyone is curious book.swf is the swf in the movieclip i am trying to close.[code]
View 1 RepliesI've build several movies which all work fine, but ultimately they need to run inside a Main movie which acts as a holder for the various child movies which load into it.Everything is working fine but not when they're loaded into the main movie. The main problems seems to be that the main movie has common component which relate to all the loaded child movies.Consequently the main movie has several instances - but how do I refer back to them in the child movieclips?I can't get the child movie clips to compile if I remove the references but ultimately the child movie clips need to speak to instances and functions in the main movie.Also, I've got a global function to hold the global variables but this method seems frowned on. But I need the global variables all the time and in all the movie clips.

2. How do i access a movie clip from different loaded SWF file?
- i have 3 separate movie clips (a,b,c)
- my main movie is (a) and when i click a button there, it will go to external movie (b)
- under external movie (b) there's a movie clip that includes my animation and content button
- if i click on the content button on movie (b), external movie (c) will pop up [ it will not replace movie (b) but will just overlap it, it's like a small pop up ]
i did the actionscript and when i'm testing external movie (b), it's working... it's showing/popping up movie (c) but when i tried it on the main movie (a), the movie (c) is not popping on the (b) err, sorry if it's a bit confusing / how i explained it. but hopefully somebody will get the idea. and it won't also return on the main movie (a) when i click on a link from the external movie.
I'm still a rookie in flash and I'm having a little bit of trouble with some actionscript. I've gotten as far as placing the buttons and assign the correct actionscript for them to work. Everything is working fine with the buttons activating the external .swf into a blank movie clip in the main movie. Ony thing is, I would like the external movie assigned to the first button to open once the movie is loaded.
I thought by using the same actionscript i used on the button {and removing the on(release) tag} and placing on the first frame of the main movie would help, but it doesn't.
I've created six movie clips of cursive text effect using masking for the animation. Each clip is approximately 160 frames long. I need to play these sequentially, one after the other, when the page loads. structure multiple clips to play after each other?

The structure is as follows:

Where the new movie clip is loading into stage.
I need to pass two variables from the loaded clip into the SubClip. Simple vars to fill some dynamic text in SubClip.
I've done the whole _root.myvar thing, _parent, and _global.
my problem is that i need to make a reisze, cause the screen resolution for other users. My main and news movie works perfect, but the others movies re-scale everything bigger. The problem of the external loaded movie is: this movie needs the funktion:
Stage.scaleMode = "noScale";
Stage.align = "TL";
If i dont have this code inside the movie is not going to resize fullscreen into the main movie. Inside this movie im scalling photos and some mc's You can take a look what i mean under: [URL]
If you take a look to the bar where the Number of pictures (30) are you will see that the lower bar and the pictures is not going to scale to fill the full screen if i delete the this code;

On the main timeline I have another MC which loads a DataGrid mcomponent.I have a ListEvent.ITEM_CLICK attached the DataGrid.When a row is clicked, I want to replace the ribbonMC clip I created with a different MC.However, no matter what I do I cannot seem to
properly remove the clip and add it to the main timeline in its place.I have tried getChildByName() in order to grab the clip:
var rmc:DisplayObject = getChildByName("ribbonMC"); (I've
tried type MovieClip here too)
But all I seem to get is a null object, so it cannot be unloaded. Even if I did grab it, I cannot seem to figure out how to add my new MC to the main timeline from inside the current movie clip in any event. Since _root is no longer used in AS3.

I have a ten-frame Flash doc. Seven of these frames have movie clips. What I want to do is be able to have a user navigate to another frame in the main timeline by clicking a button at the end of each movieclip.

View 1 RepliesI have a menu bar that has 2 Drop down menus. Each drop down is a separate movie clip, with 3 buttons inside that are separate movie clips. I have a class set to the buttons that are movie clips for a roll over effect. But when I mouse over it does not work. Also on the main time line I tried to add a like to a web page but it did not work. But I only have this problem with the movie clips that are inside the drop down movie clips.
Why is this? How do I add roll over actions and external links to movie clips that are inside of another movie clip? I really need some help this is a problem I have been having for about a month or more. I am still a AS3 newb and this is my first time using classes. The other classes I have work with everything else, Im just having trouble with the movie clips that are inside movie clips.
