Dec 13, 2010I will try to keep this as precise and to the point as possible as not to waste anyone's precious time.
My problem here is that I have made a website on AS3, and it required a dynamically loaded XML gallery. All that is done and everything is working perfectly except one requirment
The website has a submenu and that submenu should send XML commands to the loaded swf.
ok now you can see that the thumbnails are links to the images or subcategories...
but if you look at those labels of the buttons you will see thats they are same as the sub menus.
So basically what I need is that sub menu buttons should bring the corresponding galleries just like the gallery buttons..
I tried to do it but loading in the gallery and keeping it invisible and then trying to figure out how to pass the same AS command as the buttons and I have been unsuccesful.
I am adding the galleryclass.AS file.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Command To Get The Object Height From The Html Page?
Jan 20, 2009I'm missing the command to get the object height from the html page. I just want to set the original height and width to a sprite background. The object in the html is set dynamically from the server.
Also when I resize from the authoring window the background doesn't change size where:
pageBkg_mc.height=stage.height;
pageBkg_mc.width=stage.width;
I looked in the properties panel and when I clicked on the instance of the movie clip the option to set the size was disabled. Not sure why. So I deleted the instance and put it in a new fla. The options were enabled. Then I went back to my old fla and dropped a new instance of the background there again. Added the same instance name and sizing was enabled again. Is there a reason why it became disabled?
I also updated this code and it works fine now.

Feb 7, 2007I have a header with tab buttons--- When you are on a certain page the coorisponding tab is a different color(as a locator). Right now I have like, 7 or 8 different headers that are the same thing minus the colored tab of the current page.Is there a way to code the flash so that I only need one header, but still keep the off-colored buttons when on the coorisponding page?Apparently, from what I have gathered I need to Send a variable to the SWF from the embedding HTML using FlashVars or SWFObjects' 'addVariable' method etc so the SWF knows which tab/color to use.But, I have no ideal where to start...u

Jul 14, 2009I have a .swf menu with 20 or so links. Each link opens up a new html page that in turn embeds the same swf menu. All I want is to simply have the html tell the swf to gotoAndStop a specific frame label that really just 'highlights' that particular button, so the user knows where they are. that's it... used to be able to do this with fsCommand, or so i thought.

Mar 13, 2006I have a project where I need to keep track of where the user is at a certain point of a flash training orientation.
Flash application needs to accept a parameter which contains a unique ID for the user running the flash application. This ID needs to be stored throughout the session of the flash application, from page to page. Once a user travels from page-X to page-X in the Flash, the next button needs to call an aspx page in order to send that ID and the page position so the aspx can write to an XML file this information. If the user does not finish the flash, once they return, the aspx needs to read the correct XML file and send 2 parameters to the flash application. These 2 parameters will be the user's ID and the page the user was on the flash can load the correct page. Instead of passing 2 parameters so the flash can dynamically load the correct section, the aspx can call the correct flash file (i.e. flash_file2.swf) but still pass the user's ID as a parameter.

How do I send 4 values from banner.swf to banner2.swf?
- banner2.swf is on another domain
- send the values to [URL] (php-file)
- And output the values into textfields on banner2.swf
- Inside banner2.swf I also want to make all the comparison and editing of the values.

Is there any way to only send the values directly to banner2.swf without using any PHP script in test.php? The problem I get is that banner2.swf doesn't catch any values. How do receive the sent values into banner2.swf? Do I have to have banner1.swf in php-file and banner2.swf in php-file? Is there any difference if both the swf:s are on the same domain or not?
ActionScript 2.0 :: Sending Input Text Variable To PHP Without HTML Tags
Oct 14, 2009I have an input box with a variable name. When the user enters some text and presses a button that variable is sent to a php file using the GET method. Then the info is put into a database. When I checked my database, I found that a load of styling html tags has been included. I want for my input text box to have styled text, but I don't want that styling /html tags to be sent to the php file. I know I could use strip_tags in php to get rid of the html tags, but surely there's a way of not sending the tags at all, just the text content of my variable?

Dec 16, 2009I had posted this in the PHP section but think it may be more relevant in Flash as have'nt had any replies yet..I have been asked to create a photo canvas website that allows users to upload an image, then apply several effects such as re-sizing/cropping/desaturate, then viewing the updated image on a generic wall and going to check out to buy the canvas.I am pretty new to web developing/designing, i am confident with html,css and actionscript to an extent, but have only used small parts of php before.My biggest worry is how to go between html > php >flash >back to html again.From what i understand i need to create the following functions:
1. Create a general html website which will store the upload form and flash photo editor swf on, when the user first access's the site i start the php session...
2. The user then uploads there image to the server using a simple php upload form which will store the file and create a unique named file also on the server...
3. The flash editor swf will then load up on the html page. Inside the actionscript of the swf i will tell flash to continue with the php session by calling it again and call users image on the server with the 'file reference' command. The editing functions such as cropping, canvas size will all have variables to mark what the user has chosen and these varaibles will get ent back to the html page using php to keep track of them for the checkout process...
4. Once the editing has finished the user will click 'finish' in the swf taking them to the php shopping basket/checkout which will call the variables sent in flash to determine final cost depending on what effects chosen.
Is the above correct and more importantly is it possible? The main part i am struggling to get my head around is editing in flash (say changing the uploaded image to 20 x 26) and then saving this back to the server and sending the new settings back into the html/php page.Is this all possible without using database and tables such as MySql?

I see the HTML code for setting this up (available from my host), but do not know how to get it to work in my Flash site. (I did not build the site and know very little about Flash...I'm learning as I go in order to do updates.) It looks like the site currenly links to a PHP file to allow for sign ups to our newsletter. Can anyone tell me h how to get the HTML code to work on my site?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Make An "Ignore Command If" Command?
Mar 30, 2012I'm new to Adobe Flash and especially new to Actionscript. Could somebody give an example and explain how to make and "Ignore *this* command if..." style command. Here's what I want to achieve:I have made a button (I may have done it in an odd way but it works) that moves when the mouse hovers over it and then moves back when the mouse moves away. I plan to put the finished product into Dreamweaver and have tried what I've done so far and it works. The problem is that if I move the mouse away before the first animation of the button has finished. It doesn't reach the *Mouse Out* command and then just sticks/stops in the bit where I have put a *stop* command.Basically, what I want is a way to ignore a command if something happens earlier on (such as the cursor being moved away).I've tried to explain the best I can without actually screenshotting it and copying commands.

In the animation there are a couple of 'read more' links that when pressed, the movie animates to a read more screen with basic info depending on which it is (read more 1, read more 2, ...) In Flash I have added an image on one of the main pages and I would like it to link to the same readmore just as one of the text links does.
The xml has the following line for editing the text, so I see how it is calling the readme page with asfunction, but I have no idea how to use actionscript (or behaviors?) within the flash document to mimic this with an image as the link. I am guessing its something simple but I have yet to stumble upon it.[code]...

Feb 21, 2011I signed on to this adobe forum hoping some one can help me. Ive created a navigation bar in Flash CS5.
Ive got my up, down, hover states to work perfectly but the state hit i just cant seem to figure out what it does. What im looking for, is for someone to help me with, when a user lets say clicks on 'Home', i want that link to stay 'red' so that user knows its on 'Home Webpage'.
I dont know if i have to add code in flash for it to do that or if its done by the hit function. Because ive set which colour hit should be, but when i hit/activate the 'Home Webpage', it wont stay a solid colour, to show its active. It just goes back to its original colour after doing hover/down/hit.

Ok i have done some research but still no luck. I was going to use a separate batch file with a windows command that did what I needed but since I will be calling the fscommand once a second the dos window would pop up a lot.
