I'm currently working on my personal site and I noticed if I have more than one mc in my timeline, when i test movie, it seems bogged down. I used vector shapes and tweened them (nothing complicated). Can anyone provide me with some info on how to prevent this or lead me to a site that explains this sort of stuff.
View 2 RepliesFlash CS4published with AS2.0Flash Player 10The movie is 15FPS, and lasts about 16 seconds total.With about 40 Vector images that are constantly, coming into the screen and leaving the screen - and when they're doing that they're also fading in and fading out, and resizing. so a lot is happening on the screen... then after the 15 images or so are done swirling around, they all come in for the grand finale and this is really where it bogs down... All of them, as I said are vector images published as .swfs from Illustrator (if I tried .ai files or anything else it was tons worse). The movie just completely bogs down, and goes very very slowly - I'm assuming this has to do with the computer trying to draw all the vector images as they are resizing, fading, and moving - etc.
The reason my client wants vector images is because of the clarity - Is there anyway to retain the clarity of these resizing images, but reducing the load on the client side so it doesn't slow down??Also - while I'm here - I should probably look elsewhere, but anyone know of a quick way to expand my movie say from 16 seconds to 24 seconds? Keeping all the same animations but just slowing it down slightly so it's not so fast without redoing everything
I managed to make a controller that can play embedded-video-SWF's in "slow-motion" (1/2 speed, 1/4 speed) and in reverse at different speeds. What I'd actually like to do, is something similar, but then with FLV's. I am trying to use the NetStream.pause() as a toggle onEnterFrame, but that doesnt work. Using seek doesn't seem to work either, because it kind of doesn't like non-integers and also for an unknown reason keeps sending the playhead to 4 seconds. if it should be possible to play an FLV at a different speed/reversed, how to do this, and if this should cause performance issues. (Reverse-playing an SWF is much slower for example)
View 4 RepliesI have recently developed a standalone Flash entertainment system, containing Flash games and screensavers etc., i have also included a third party mp3 player.
The problem i have is the PC is left switched on daily and the system is used quite heavily, i.e mp3's playing in background while screen savers are displayed and games are played.
Everything starts fine but after a few hours the flash animations slow down to about 2 or 3 frames per second, then the PC will finally crash.
I have a Flash video playing as part of a jQuery slideshow. But it seems not to be autoplaying successfully, and is loading very slowly. It usually loads on refresh, but not when someone first hits the page.The video is at link removed as it will be outdated shortly - we're moving to production; besides, the problem is solved.

View 2 RepliesI googled "as3 audio slow motion fast forward rewind" and found only this of relevance: playing slow motion, fast forward , rewind in a video player in flash video player, which briefly talks about how to fast forward and rewind a video as well as two options for doing slow motion on video. I only need audio, though. I think I might be able to do fast forward and rewind by stopping the SoundChannel and then playing the sound at a different position using addEventListener (Event.ENTER_FRAME, ~), but I'm completely lost on how to apply the advice regarding slow motion. I use Flash CS5.5 and all the sounds I want to operate on are already in the library.
View 1 RepliesI am using AS2 in CS5.5.I am creating a project for a class that introduced me to adobe flash. The issue is I have gotten to a certain point about 15 scenes. During say the 15th scene scrolling through the timeline animations works fine, playing it on test scene works fine. When I go to play it on test movie it stops at a certain point. At first I thought it might have been a misplaced stop action but there is none to be found. The weird part is every other scene I create after that continues to freeze as well, the images are there, but the animations won't play. All my previous animations play before those with the issue, it's justThese new ones won't play for some reason in test movie, but work completely fine in test scene and the timeline.

View 9 Repliesis there a way to speed up flash movies playing when put up on the web. I created a web banner and uploaded it, when I open the website on the browser the flash movie pauses for a few minutes and does not play straight away. Is there any actionscript that will ensure the flash movie will play instantly when on the web? Is it the file size that is causeing the swf to run slower? Is it anything to do with the publish settings in the fla file?

when i import it i use these steps:
1- I make a symbol(movie clip)
2- I import the swf to the stage
3-then I back to Scene1 to control its size and position in my movie
BUT when I finish all these steps and play my movie the flurish too slow and not soft as original its cracks!
I have a movie on the stage called wheel_mc that I want to slow down and stop using action script rather than use easing on the tween in the movie. It has 200 frames and when it gets to frame 100 it starts to slow down and by the time its reached frame 200 its completely stopped.
View 10 RepliesIt seems the drawing API can quickly slow down a movie, just by drawing a bunch of static (unanimated) lines on the screen. In contrast to movieclips, of which it can handle thousands without slowdown. Makes me wonder why it doesn't just handle drawn lines as movieclips? Why does the linedrawing become slow so quickly, and is there any way to prevent this from happening?I written a quick test, and it appears to slow down, while drawing, after just 300 lines, while only after 2000 mc's the fps start to dip slghtly, while placing them. I also tried drawing every line in it's own layer but it remains much the same.

The movie is contained within an HTML page, and if your mouse leaves the movie, it just keeps on scrolling and is very distracting.

I have made a scene with a flv in it. The problem is that when I first run my scene the flv plays slow, then when I have played thru it and starts at the beginning again it plays in the speed I want it to. I would really like it to play in normal speed first time as well.

View 7 RepliesIn a SWF file, when I am using the following code to move backwards to a previous frame, it is incredibly slow -- Taking around 2 seconds. Where as moving forward to next frame takes 30-40 milli seconds.

In terms of performance, does loading .swfs into a flash movie have any implications. I've been experimenting with loading complex swfs into a simple movie and the complex .swf seems to perform a lot slower within the .swf than as a standalone. The host movie has no other funcitonality other than as a simple container. Is it in general terms better not to load .swfs into a movie but to code everything inside 1 movie ?
View 2 RepliesTo try to avoid lag in the main animations (few ones, 5 I think), instead of having all the contents load as external movie clips in a movie clip called contentsMC (for instance), I used that contentsMC clip to contain them all, in several frames. There's no great problem in having all in one, since the contents are mainly text. The contentsMC shows up in a masked area inside the main movie clip.
I also have a transition effect, under that masked area.
When I press a button, it uses the command loadContent = #; And sets the transition effect movieclip play ( transitionMC.gotoAndPlay(1); ).
At the mid point of that transition effect (when it covers the actual content), it has the if conditions required to display what was asked.

and so on.
However, when the transition effect is ocurring, all the animations in the main page become really slow, until it ends. Also, if I use anything inside the contentsMC, such as a scroll bar, the same lag occurs. That lag happens both with the always running animations (they are 5, I think) and with any other animation triggered during that, for instance by the onRollover effect of a movieclip.
To try to reduce that, I had set the framerate to higher values. First I set it to 50, then 60, and now it's currently at 90 (I only set it to 90 as it displays quite slower on the browser)
Is it possible for action script to import audio files into the flash movie while the movie is playing. (Instead of manually importing a file from within the flash application) Or some way to load an audio file located at a remote url, that is not preloaded, and play it.I've searched through the action script reference guide, but have found nothing to do the job.

View 1 RepliesI have a fairly complex animation movie clip within my main timeline in a Flash file. When you click a button, it plays the movie clip, then goes back out to the main timeline. The first time the movie clip runs, it plays choppy and slow, but if I play it two or more times, it plays correctly (smoothly). Is there some actionscript I need to preload the movie clip, or some other solution to the first-run slowness?

What I want is how can I play the intro.swf and while that is playing the other one (content.swf) is loading so when the intro finish the content.swf is already load and doesn't start a loading bar.
View 3 RepliesI'm creating a movie player on a website of mine.. similar to YouTube. I would like people to be able to upload their movies on to my site. So my question(s) are regarding the FLV Format and if you can play other formats some how like Movs, Avis, Wmvs and Mpegs?
(1) Flash can only play FLV files? Can you get it to play Movs, Avis, Mpegs... Can I some how put in codecs for them?
(2) Can people easily get their movies to FLV format? Is this an issue for people?
I don't want to make it complicated for them to put things on my site. I would like them to be able to upload movies with ease and obviously not make things too complicated for them. I want to make it as user friendly as possible.
