I'm using Flash CS4, as3 and adobe air file. I have an application with 3 scenes, first scene to login, second to set up, and third to see an video. The problem is that, when I put a component in the second or third scene, if a change any property in the component inspector, any property it gives me error. So put the component and I change property by code in as3. But I'm doing things with FLVPlayback component, and now before enter the scene gives me error, the solution will be to get the original properties, but I don't remember, I could install other time Flash CS4, but I can do that for any component, better know the solution.
For example, I have an as file who is the class named p.e. MyMainclass, and in the scene3, I put FLVPlayback, who default values it's the last I used (I don't remember default after installation), if any code in as3, it gives me this error:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.

I remove this component, I put another one I never used, it doesn't give me error, I change any property in the object inspector, p.e. color, it gives me error, I change to original property again, and then No Error.

I am trying to create my first real world Flex application. I will have a lot of different data entry / data view screens so I thought I would create many different components to deal with each different type of data that was being returned. I have a MXML application called Layout, and have component called "Navigator" which controls the menu, as well as a ViewStack called "MainContent".
I want the Navigator component to change the ViewStack on the Layout application to that of another Component (each Component is embedded within the Canvas of each ViewStack). I have a click handler on my Navigator which looks like this: Layout.ContentFrame.selectedChild=event.itemRenderer.data.clickValue; However it shows the error "Access of possibly undefined property ContentFrame through a reference with a static type Class." Is my approach a good way of doing it? I have attempted referencing it using FlexGlobals.Layout and topLevelApplication.Layout... neither of which work?[URL]
I'm building this game, and it was working fine, until I used the menuBar component. It's not code related, 'cause i've commented out the script that does things with the menuBar. If I drag the MenuBar component from the component window, onto my Stage , the game refuses to work. If I deleet it (but keep it IN my library), it still doesn't work!. But if I turn the export settings of the MenuBar off, it works! The classes that i'm using for my game are called Node.as, JawBreaker.as The class I want to use to do something with the menuBar is called GameMenu.as (but that doesn't matter, since I commented the calling of that class out).

I have no problem doing this if I have buttons within a movieclip, but having them in a scrollPane produces the following error:

Within Mainn.mxml I have two components: DataGrid (used for testing) & CustomComponent (which extends Canvas)
When the data within DataModel.somelist is updated the DataGrid reflects the changes but the CustomComponent doesn't appear to.
I was expecting to see the trace (CustomComponent.dataProvider) fired whenever this._dataModel.itemList is changed. [code]...

It's a very useful component and works very well.
Now, I need to set the text property of this combo box upon application startup with certain values (which are defined dynamically according to some criteria). The problem is that although I have no problem setting the text property of the combo box at other times of the application run, setting the property at startup seems to have no effect unfortunately.
For example, I want to set the text property of the combobox to "Bob" (which is one of the items in the dataprovider for the combobox) and the "set text" method is called on the combo box. Performing a step-through shows that the "set text" method is receiving the correct value item but not setting the _text property.
I have tried not doing anything until "ApplicationComplete" but no joy there either.
Here is the code (a combination of the code from the URL above and some other changes to it). However, as I've stated above, the codes does work. The problem is that it doesn't work at the application startup. Whenever an event is fired and setComboText is called as a result, the text of the combo box is set correctly.

View 1 RepliesI'm making a UI for a component in Flash. I wanted to use Flex and have had no luck getting the onUpdate exernalInterface call to fire properly. I'm referencing the functionality described here: [URL]. First off, I can't embed the SWF in the FLA. It just won't start the Flex SWF. Even using the external swf, it seems that the onUpdate function is either called too early or not at all. Here's what I've tried:
Tying the externalInterfce declaration to the initialize, preinitialize, applicationComplete, and creationComplete events. Sub-classing my application and putting the externalInterface in the constructor. Neither of these options work. When I create a basic AS3 project in Eclipse and put the externalInferface in the constructor, it works as expected.
I have multiple tab loops, where I enable/disable the loops as needed to control the tabbing experience. I'm attempting to set control the tabbing with the tabChildren property on the Movieclip or Sprite containers I have by setting their tabChildren property to true/false. I am trying to set up tabbing that has three distinct tab loops (three different containers), each with their own internal Sprites/Movieclips that have their tabIndex properties set as needed. I am able to properly set tabChildren to false, and back to true. But with the component, once I set it to false, I can't set it to true again.
Tab loop 1: main content (a loaded SWF file)
Tab loop 2: nav bar (previous & back buttons to load different SWFS, and a Help button)
Tab loop 3: a help pop-up window (a Sprite container) with a scrollPane component used to show scrolling content
Things seem to work fine without the ScrollPane component involved in the mix.Have others experienced this inability to control tabChildren like this? And with regards to using components? I am not using the FocusManager class in any capacity, and believe that it only applies to the components (unless I created my own components and implemented IFocusManager, which I haven't).
Is is possible to bind class properties to mxml components ? E.g.: I have a class A.as with a String property nameValue. What I want to achieve is always having the latest value of a mx:Text component in nameValue.

I have a custom Flex 4+ component that I am trying to make and have the skin be aware of changes to a custom property. This property will determine the graphic on the button (and some other visual changes) but the data will change constantly as it will be updated by a timer.
I've looked at untold examples and still seem unable to get the syntax correct or discover how things should be separated. I've looked at overriding commitProperties and the PropertyChangeEvent without success. So I have two questions.
1) How can I get a skin to be notified of a bound property when it changes?
2) If the data for a bound property of the component is an object, will binding work properly if a property of the object changes (or would it be better to pass each property separately)?

View 2 RepliesI'm using code for the open source MP3 player Howler and trying to port it to a Spark MobileApplication type. I'm getting a null pointer exception and I have no idea what's causing it. I've tried debugging extensively with breakpoints at what I think is causing the error, and set breakpoints in the untouched Howler project but all the variables in scope seem to be identical between my non-working project, and the Howler project. The only thing I can think of is that Howler uses MX components and I am using spark. I've pasted all my code below (which is very long) but I've bolded the lines that are throwing the error. The error occurs immediately after I choose a folder in the browse folder dialog.

I have written a piece of code where I have created a custom class containing some of my custom properties.I have used multiple instances of this custom class in my main class and added it to a container.Now I need to access one of my custom property in the main class through container.getChildByName()."custom property", but I am not able to access my custom property using this.I get an error saying
