Flex :: Setting Text Property Of A Combobox On Application Start?
Jul 20, 2011
I am using the combocheck example from the following site:
It's a very useful component and works very well.
Now, I need to set the text property of this combo box upon application startup with certain values (which are defined dynamically according to some criteria). The problem is that although I have no problem setting the text property of the combo box at other times of the application run, setting the property at startup seems to have no effect unfortunately.
For example, I want to set the text property of the combobox to "Bob" (which is one of the items in the dataprovider for the combobox) and the "set text" method is called on the combo box. Performing a step-through shows that the "set text" method is receiving the correct value item but not setting the _text property.
I have tried not doing anything until "ApplicationComplete" but no joy there either.
Here is the code (a combination of the code from the URL above and some other changes to it). However, as I've stated above, the codes does work. The problem is that it doesn't work at the application startup. Whenever an event is fired and setComboText is called as a result, the text of the combo box is set correctly.
private function onComboChecked(event:ComboCheckEvent):void {
var obj:Object=event.obj;
var index:int=selectedItems.getItemIndex(obj);
Setting the text property of a flex DateField makes the selectedDate property of that DateField go to null.I need to set the text property so that I can use a particular format (DD-MMM-YYYY).
I'm trying to set a specific list item in a mx combobox to have a custom item renderer, the problem is that I cannot do this via mxml, it needs to be done via actionscript at a later stage, eg: combobox gets created, combobox gets populated, user does other tasks, combobox needs to set one or more items in the combobox to have icons (via item renderer)..
I can do this via the onChange event, but it only applies the icon when the combobox is opened and there is a slight delay so you can see the icon being added.
I'm trying to convert an MXML component to an ActionScript Class. The component consists of a Form with a TextInput, TextArea, and two buttons - Save and Cancel, and a Validator for the TextInput, and other logic to handle events that occur. This component is currently extended by several other components. Now, in the MXML component binding the TextInput text property to a property in an Object was very easy: <mx:TextInput text="{_itemToEdit.name}" />
But in ActionScript, I'm creating the TextInput and setting the text property before the Object is set, and the TextInput is not being updated: public var itemToEdit:Object = {}; private var nameInput:TextInput = new TextInput(); public function MyClass() { nameInput.text = itemToEdit.name; }
How can I make sure that the TextInput text property is bound to the specified property in the Object?
I'm looping through a recordset, and for each item I create at runtime a spark Label and set the text property from a field of the recordset. The labels must have a fixed width and some text goes multiline. I want to arrange the label vertically so I need to know the height of the label so I can place the next label properly, but when I try to read this property, after the labels is added through the addElement mehtod, it returns 0.
Any way to set the text that initially appears within a ComboBox without actually making it a selection? I have a ComboBox that initially starts out with one selection labeled "Select One". When you click on the ComboBox, the first selection in the list is "Select One". Is there a way to tell the ComboBox to just say "Select One" when it first hits the stage without making it editable?
I need to programmatically set the selected item in a combobox. I've got a combobox like this: <mx:ComboBox id="MyComboBox" change="puzzleHandler(event);"prompt="Make a Selection"> <mx:ArrayCollection id="myDP"> <mx:Object id="first" label="Label 1" series="2" pageTitle="Title 1"/> <mx:Object id="second" label="Label 2" series="7" pageTitle="Title 2"/> <mx:Object id="third" label="Label 3" series="9" pageTitle="Title 3"/> </mx:ArrayCollection></mx:ComboBox>
I've got a function that regards deep linking. . They'll be taken to the appropriate part of the site (without having selected Label 2 in the comboBox). How do I set the comboBox programatically, so that it corresponds with what the user it looking at? In my function's switch statement, I want to set the comboBox to the label that corresponds with the view. If "view=2" then the comboBox should show "Label 2" as selected.
case "view=1": MyComboBox.selectedItem.label="Label 1"; parseUrl(); case "view=2":
..... I tried this: MyComboBox.selectedItem.label="Label 1" But it's not working.
Short version:Setting a TextField's 'text' property seems to be quite slow. Any way to optimize this?Long version:For a video player I'm working on, I've rewriting a bunch of code I've written in the past and optimizing where I can, and I've noticed something a bit strange.I have a time readout (the typical "00:00 / 01:00" thing) that I'm updating every frame, and it seems to be gobbling up FPS (I'm using mrdoob's great little Stats class for monitoring).The thread to make the call is a bit heavy -- involving a dispatched custom event from the FLVPlayer class (with the current netStream.time as a property) onEnterFrame, which is passed up 2 parents and then back down via a function call -- but I've isolated each step along the way and everything is totally fine (running at or close to 30fps) right up until that very last call where I set the TextField.text property, which results in about a 10fps drop.
If I comment out the setting of TextField.text it runs great, but even if I set it to something arbitrary (like currentTime.text = "0") -- bypassing the reformatting math -- it just tanks.Anyway, anyone know if there's something I can do about this? I've considered using a Timer set to 100m instead of onEnterFrame, but I actually assumed the overhead would come from the dispatching of and listening to the event as well as the reformatting of the time, but *not* the very last step of setting the .text property, which is something I can't avoid whether I use a Timer or onEnterFrame.
I am kind of puzzled and not sure how to tackle this issue: Got two comboxes with dataproviders. Also, I created a separate index.as in /as folder. I have these two functions:
In my .mxml page, I have : <mx:FormItem label="Property Code:" id="fi_propertyCode" width="100%"> <mx:ComboBox id="propertyCode" width="50%" dataProvider="{qry_communites}" change="showPropertyCode()" /> </mx:FormItem> <mx:FormItem label="Utility Type:" id="fi_utilityType" width="100%">
.....
I get an error saying Access of undefined property utilityType. The funny thing is I don't get this error for "propertyCode". Moreover, If I copy pasyte showUtilityType() function and put inside my .mxml page, I don't get this error either. Btw. I have : .... In my .mxml page. What should I do? How can I get rid of this error? Why does Flex see propertyCode combobox but not utilityType combobox? I would rather keep index.as as it is.
When this code executes, flex just sets the selectedIndex to 0 and displays the first item in the dataProvider instead of leaving the text and prompt as the empty string "". How do I get around this? I need the text property to be "" unless the user selects another item in the combobox.
I have a prompt string to be displayed in my combobox - this needs to be displayed in italics. When user makes any selection from the list - i need to change the style of the displayed content.
My css file:
.promptStyle { fontStyle: italic;
.....
I am able to see the style change happening because the color changes; but the change specific to textInputStyleName does not get applied.
well, I have a combobox which I have bind his selectedItem property to a value object object, like this
<fx:Binding source="styles_cb.selectedItem.toString()" destination="_uniform.style"/> <fx:Declarations> <fx:XML id="config_xml" xmlns="" source="config.xml" /> <!-- Place non-visual elements (e.g., services, value objects) here --> </fx:Declarations>
the value object is a custom class with some setters and getters, and I want to set a property based of the value of the selectedItem of the combo, so inside the value object I have something like this
[Bindable] public function set style(value:String):void { _style = value; trace(value); }
my problem is that each time I change the combobox selection which in fact change the style property of the value object it does it 3 times, if I trace the value of the setter it actually do the trace 3 times, why?? how can I avoid this? I'm doing something wrong? or there is a better way to do it,
I'll just go ahead and C/P the entire function to ensure you guys see everything going on:
public function directorsPrepsToShow():void { var tempDPrepsAC:ArrayCollection = new ArrayCollection; var dprepSD:Date = new Date; var dprepED:Date = new Date;
I want to use vkontakte's new wrapper feature, that enhances your application abilities by running under SWF wrapper. This is a sample application that uses this mechanism. It uses pure action script to display it's contents rather than an mx:Application.
Using the wrapper on my mx:Application failed due to the following error:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at mx.managers::FocusManager/activate()[C:autobuildgalagaframeworksprojectsframeworksrcmxmanagersFocusManager.as:702] at mx.managers::SystemManager/activateForm()[C:autobuildgalagaframeworksprojectsframeworksrcmxmanagersSystemManager.as:2493] at mx.managers::SystemManager/activate()
...
Unfortunately - it also failed, and the question remains, how to start Application from a simple AS file?
I've got a configuration xml file that I need to parse for values before a flex application loads. I've created a static class that allows for the values in the xml config file to be retrieved. I'm initializing this class when the application first loads but as the xml file is loaded with a Loader class that loads a synchronously the class is being asked for values before the xml file is actually loaded - so it is throwing a error. Is there a way to load this xml file synchronously. We cannot embed the file as a class variable as we need to be able to change the values remotely.
I will create a voice chat application with Adobe Flex and I want use the opensource Red5 as a server.But, I confuse how to start it. it's possible just use NetStream and NetConnection?
I have a spark DataGrid component with several columns and I want to have my application default to descending order on the first column in the DataGrid. I would like to use the built-in default sort that occurs when clicking the top header once. I have no need to sort the ArrayCollection I'm working with or change what the comparators are.I also want any user-generated sorting such as clicking on a different column's header to override the default sorting.
My Flex application is heavily keyboard-oriented. It uses 100% of the browser window and I'd like the user to be able to start using it immediately - as soon as it loads. However, it seems that the application is only first "activated" (i.e. the activate event fires) when the mouse clicks somewhere inside it, which is very inconvenient for my keyboard-heavy app.
Can I force an activation of my app at some point during/after it loads? I hope I don't have to display some silly "click inside to activate" overlay every time the page loads..
In certain browsers ([cough] Chrome [/cough]) the focus is lost whenever the user switches away from the browser (or even touches the address bar) and is not regained when switching back. So the solution has to take in consideration not just the first focus when the page loads but also "re-focusing".
Do you know is it possible to start iPad application from another application that is developed in Flash? I need to create small iPad app with two buttons (and some graphics/animation) in Flash. Clicking on those buttons, another iPad application should be started. My guess is that will use ExternallInterface, but I don't know what to send :)
I want to specify a string value in the HTML containing my Flash created using Flex 3. This value is a URL that is used by the Flex code and I want another dev to be able to update it. How do I do this? I'm using Flex Builder 3.
Is it possible to use AS2 to dynamically set the current state of a ComboBox?I'm loading variables from an external file, and I need the ComboBoxes to reflect the selection that comes in.
I need to set the text value of the ComboBox and numericStepper when an item in a list is pressed. I understand that the value of the ComboBox and NumericStepper is read only. How can I force these components to show the value that I want?
I am setting new style on a combobox instance. Following is the code.
myCombobox.textField.setStyle("textFormat", myStyle);myCombobox.dropdown.setRendererStyle("textFormat", myStyle); where myCombobox is the combobox instance and myStyle is textFormat object. but when i disable the component. i.e, myCombobox.enabled = false; The combobox textField loses its style and resets to its defualt style, though the dropdown style remains( myStyle ). What is the reasons for this behaviour. How can i change the style for the disabled state of the component.
