ActionScript 2.0 :: Thumbnail Menu With Next And Preview Buttons?
May 4, 2005
i have created xml based gallery in flash.. everything is working good... its like portfolio... having lots of jpgs wid thumbnails... thats fine..i have like 23 projects... its like verticle menu wid mask showing only 5 thumbnails on page... i have 2 buttons on bottom of the page prev btn and next btn... ok.. when i click on next button i want to show next 5 thumbnails which will slide up.. and so on... and when i click prev btn i want to slide back previous 5 thumbnails...i have blank mc whose instance name is menu_mc... i have another mc called thumb_mc which will be attached thru actionscript containing thumbnails from xml file which are like 23 small thumbs...
i have tried like this
on menu_mc attached this action script
menu_mc.onLoad = function() {
this._y = this._y;
div = 5
}
Using Flash cs5I have a simple swfnothing on the stage except a video (flv) playback component.I dont want it to autostart which i see the paremeter for and have set that to uncheckedBut I would like pick a place in the video to be the thumbnail image for the video that people see instead of just a black box. I dont see how to do that.Is there any way to have them see a thumbnail image in the video player instead of a black box when i dont want the video to autoplay?
I am busy working on a xml driven photo gallery where the number buttons for each picture are generated dynamically ie) 6 xml nodes....6 buttons generated labelled 1-6 and everything is working fine. I want to have a thumbnail hover state appear when I roll over each of the buttons. I have a static thumbnail which loads in the thumb_path, however I cant seem to get this to work when you hover over the buttons...the function menu() is what generates the buttons: Can anyone shed some light on what would be the best way to create a thumbnail preview for the buttons? I have attached a preview of the gallery as well.
I am having a very difficult time trying to setup and flash file that has a scrolling menu (mouse movement scrolls the menu up or down). This menu can expand to menu & submenu and it is working fine. What I need is to make an AS file that can load images to a preview window inside the same fla file. ADSK2009 [URL] Attachments: ADSVertMenu.zip (29.8 K)
I'm looking to do a sliding image menu like this one: I can do this using tweening but it is not as smooth as using actionscript. Does anyone know what the name of this is as when I do a search as I can't find any solutions? I've tried 'thumbnail expand' and 'image easing' but am not getting any hits.
I am trying to create a dynamic menu for a video player. Much like the one found here (MTV OverDrive. )Obviouslythis is a Flash site and I can only assume the video list is being generated via XML. I am trying to accomplish the same thing, only I am not using FCS.
I just want to create the buttons dynamically with thumbnail images and text via XML, and in turn load the video based on a button click. I have the video part working fine, using a video object, I just need to know how to create the buttons WITH THUMBS from an XML file. I can figure out how to load the video once the button is clicked. The problem is the menu itself and loading the different thumbnail with the button.I am sure it has something to do with "attachMovie,DuplicateMovie, or CreateEmptyMovieClip" but I am not sure how to do this with XML.
I am building a full screen image gallery. I would like to have a thumbnail scroller menu at the bottom. As the user mouse overs a particular thumbnail, the image will appear fullscreen behind the thumbnail menu. I would like it so that the image appeared immediately as the user mouses over (i.e. the image is somehow already loaded in) as opposed to each image being loaded as the cursor is rolled over.
There are several images, so loading them all prior to running the application really isn;t an option. How could this be achieved? Are there any tips/tricks that can be used?
I've found several good tutorials in AS2.0 on creating a scrolling thumbnail menu bar for adding to a photo gallery, but nothing in AS3.0. Anyone have a tutorial or code they'd like to share?
I've created this thumbnail navigation bar that uses XML to get an external image, title, and link information. It then uses attachMovie() and a for loop to generate the listing. It all works like it's supposed to! However I am now having two problems. The first, since I am loading in an image I would like to have a preloader appear in all the thumbnail containers before the thumbnail image loads in. I have a simple circle preloader in each thumbnail module that I would like to hide it once the image loads in.
The second issues and perhaps the more important one is that the site is color coded meaning once you click on a navigation button the site color scheme changes to a different color. I put all the instance names of the site elements into an array and then created a color change function with a switch statement to had the color change. However I cant seen to include the newly attached thumbnails into this array so they don't change color along with everything else on the website. I'm completely suck on this and have no idea how to go about making thHere is my code:First this is how I loaded the XML data and attach the thumbnails:
ActionScript Code: var linkItem:Array = new Array(); var instanceNames:Array = new Array();
I am working on a class for a horizontal list of thumbnails that will function as a menu. The current selected thumbnail will display in the middle with the previous and next thumbnails displayed on either side. In the screenshot shown, the standby images before and after previous and next are also displayed, although they won't be in the final result.
Here's what it looks like at the moment: Everything works apart from the animation itself. When the user clicks a left or right arrow, the thumbnails will slide left or right and change their size an opacity as well.
I have attempted to use the Tween class, but there are four clips to be animated with five tweens (the unused standby thumbnail is simply removed), amounting to a total of 20 Tween instances running simultaniously. That seems to be too heavy on the processor, so I'm exploring a different apprioach, but it dosn't seem to be going all that well.
why the buttons in the flash banner I created in Flash CS4 work when I preview it in either Flash or HTML in the Flash CS4 program, but when I go to load it into a html document in Dreamweaver CS4 and preview it in a firefox or IE browser, the banner comes up fine, but the buttons this time will not work. The buttons are displayed with there animation and sound, but the links will not work. I have tried scripts in AS2 and AS3.
I am doing a web portfolio with thumbnail buttons that change the pictures. What is the best way to avoid having to make a new button for each new picture thumbnail? So resusing the button but changing the thumbnail picture in it and what picture it links to? Using CS4.
I need to create a flash photo gallery for their website. I've looked at different tutorials but all of the ones I have found only show stationary thumbnails. What I need is a gallery that shows the thumbnails with next and previous buttons, while showing the imaged that was clicked.
This is an example of what I would like. [URL]
This website gives you the option to turn on the thumbnails, I however do not want that option I just want to the thumbs on.
I'm having some trouble with getURL (I think). It works fine when I preview with Flash's html preview but it's not working on my server. It's pretty simple. [URL].selected1 is a user-defined variable pointing to a page: ie, when the user selects variable page1 the page to be opened is [URL]. Like I said, it works with Flash's preview, but not on my server(no 404 or any response). Does there seem to be a problem with my code or might I be overlooking a server error? Here's my code:
I'm working on putting together a portfolio website in Actionscript 3.0, and here's my situation: I have four main sections (Home, Works, Reel and Contact). When you first enter the website, it directs you to the Home content, which is on Frame 1. When you click on Works, it is intended to take you to Frame 2 - which it does just fine. On the works page, however, there is a frame to display large versions of the row of thumbnails along the bottom. Frame 2 automatically displays the large image of the first thumbnail, but the second thumbnail redirects you to Frame 3, which is identical, except it replaces the large image of the first thumbnail with the large image of the second thumbnail - and so on and so forth.
The thing is, when I get to Frame 2, my thumbnail buttons aren't working and I get this error: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at Portfolio_Site_03_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()
What I'm getting from this error is that it essentially doesn't recognize my thumbnail buttons because they do not exist on frame 1. I even attempted to move the keyframes with the thumbnail buttons on them to frame 1 and everything was working just fine, except for the fact that I had big thumbnail buttons all over my home page which I do not want to be there. For reference, here is my AS code:
How can I resolve my situation and get my buttons to do what I want them to do? My only guess would be that I'd need to make a new scene, but wasn't that one of the major points of AS 3.0?
I need a tutorial for a hierarchical drop down menu system that drops down 3 sub levels. Do I make the items in the sub menus individual buttons and then insert them into a movie clip or make every sub menu item a movie clip and insert them into buttons?
I am looking at creating a menu with three movieclip buttons on a main menu. I want to keep these buttons on the top of the screen at all times. I am opening different swf's and I want to make sure that the buttons are still showing. I know there is something with changing or swapping the depth of the movie clip when it loads the new swf's in, but I have not found anything that is seeming to work.
Intro:I started a flash-based website a few years ago. Back in 2006 I was able to get a xml scrolling thumbnail, image loader to work without a glitch.For numerous reasons I had to put the project on hold until now. [one was that my 30 day trial of flash expired and only recently was I able to purchase the Adobe Web Suite CS4 as well as a new computer which could run the apps.]
Last Friday saw a bump in the road in the development of my site as two, rather straightforward task, turned into something short of a nightmare as I have been unable to get past these two, seemingly, relatively simple task.I have posted in 4 other flash forums the issues, in detail, that I am facing - and have quite a bit of interest/views in the topic as the numbers suggest - yet no response/answer as of yet. [Which confirms other messages I have seen which seem to state that working with buttons has become increasingly difficult with the newer version of flash - something Im a bit surprised with actually from Adobe. - I would have thought there would be a palette where you could set parameters...]
Screenshot of Site/Timeline: Before getting into the two questions I have, I would like to post an image of the site as it looks whenever an swf file is saved out, as well as a piece of the timeline in the back for reference.As of now when the swf file is saved out you get exactly what you see above:
a: A scrolling thumbnail
b: ...which loads a large image when clicked on it - PEFECT...
BUT...1a: I need for the buttons to load in this action, not for it to just load on its own.[i.e., the silk_paintings gallery is what is open, so I need the "silk_paintings" button to call up this action]
note: Initially I had attacked this problem by taking out the actions layer you see above and applying it directly to the individual buttons with some crude MouseEvent Listener/Handerls... that did not work - at all.Im sure it may be "easier" to make an array out of it, but with my coding level it may be "easier" to apply it to the buttons.
1b: How I currently see it, I would take the xml-list and duplicate it for the number of galleries I have.[I would then re-name the xml-list to reflect the name of the galleries they are to represent, i.e. "silk_paintings"][also, I would have to rename the folders to "thumbnails1,2,3, etc., & "images 1,2,3, etc"
From there I would duplicate the actions and paste it into the buttons, changing the xml-list name to that of "silk_paintings", etc., as well as write in the MouseEvent listener Handler to make it work. [ah, ha, but what is that magic phrase, I have tried to implement various code from other tutorials, and all in vein.]
At this point I would be tickled pink just to get this to basic function to work.However, once the buttons are working and calling up the xml, etc., then I need the buttons to stay on the semi-transparent blue color it is whenever in the 'hit' state. [note: NOT pictured above.]With the way the buttons are currently set up, and with wanting to use scripting to get them to interact with the thumbnail gallery, it will have to be some miraculous code to tell that button what color to stay as whenever its clicked, and of course it going back to white when another button is clicked.
Conclusion:Since this is an Adobe Forum I would like to make a few additional statements in hopes that the developers, etc. may take heed.Adobes products are not cheap, and when I went to purchase the websuite I went in as a designer needing a program as not to need to program.I understand the flexibility that coding gives, but something as simple as linking buttons should not be in the realms of rocket science.
stop(); fscommand(allowscale, false);//keep SWF display at 100%
var x:XML = new XML ();//Define XML Object[code]....
I used a tutorial ("Photo Gallery and Thumbnails: Flash Tutorial!" by tutvid on utube) to create a gallery on my website. I love the thumbnail navigation but, I want it to play like a slideshow when it first opens and I want to add play/pause buttons. I am using Flash MX 2004 and don't know much at all about actionscript or how to make these modifications. I emailed the author of the tutorial to see if it was possible to make these changes his reply was: "Yes, it is possible to modify the file in this way, however I don't remember how I set it up so I wouldn't be able to re-code it for you in this email. I would take a look around the web at Actionscript 2.0 slide shows and see if you can use the code they are using and make it work with your gallery."
It's just a simple navigation thing, with a strip of thumbnails that gets moved left and right with arrows that load a larger picture when each thumbnail is clicked. Basically I would like to move the strip of thumbnails across when you click the arrows, and then when you click a thumbnail it loads the full size image above the strip. This is my thought process for each thing that needs to be scripted.
For the arrow function: - The arrow buttons need to tell the movieclip to move to the relevant frame WITHIN the movieclip where I have included the tween to the next set of thumbnails. I tried scripting this on the button itself as well as on the first frame of the actions layer and I couldn't get either to work. - I initially had the buttons within the movieclip because then I could control when there is a left and right button, or just a right button or just a left button (i.e., still more pics to view, you can go back to the previous set of pics or onto the next set of pics, or you've reached the end of the row of thumbnails) but I couldn't get my button to do anything when it was inside the same movieclip as the thumbnail rows. I would prefer to have the buttons work inside the movieclip for the reason described.
For the thumbnail function: - The problem here, I think, is that I have buttons within a movieclip that I am trying to get to load something to the stage. Here, I tried to add the script to the button within the movieclip as well as the first frame of the sctions layer but again that didn't work either. - Another important function is going to be removing whatever is on the stage when you click another thumbnail. I guess each image could just keep loading on top of the previous image but won't that cause a problem with the depth of your layers?
I am creating a navigation bar in Flash (which will then be used in Dreamweaver). When you mouse over each topic in menu (ex. Products), i want it play a movie clip (so it shoots out a sub-menu underneath). so far so good, but the only thing is, the sub-menu won't stay open in order for me to click on buttons in it. For each button, I assigned it the Behavior to go to a url. Also, I tested the buttons within the mc and they don't seem to direct me to url. do you think maybe it's because it's nested within the movie clip?? Is there an easier way to go about this?
i've designed a strip of thumbnails in flash to go in a Wordpress site i'm working on, which when clicked need to open up images and videos using Lightbox 2. (Lightbox is already setup and working.) The problem is that i'm importing the links for each of the thumbnail buttons from a .txt file which works like this:
I'm trying to make a menu that has onRelease buttons on top of onRollover buttons (the onReleases are on a separate layer from the onRollovers). The onRelease buttons take the user to different urls, and the onRollover buttons are supposed to allow different parts of the menu to appear.
The onRelease buttons work fine, but I can't get the onRollover buttons to work consistently. Sometimes the onRollover buttons will correctly advance to a different frame, and sometimes they "stick" and do not advance. The script has no errors and I've tried changing the sizes of the onRollover buttons (in case they were too large and the cursor was hovering over more than 1 at the same time), changing the order of the code for the onRelease and onRollover commands (in case the onRollovers were being superseded by the onRelease commands), and countless variations of the layers and frames.
I'm sure that you'll want to see the script, but I don't think that pasting it all on this post would be reasonable? So I've put the .fla and the .swf on this page for reference: [URL]
I'm creating a drop down menu and when I addEventListeners to check the clicks on the invisible buttons on frame 19 of the "menu" movieclip, it gives me an error. T really hate doing rollover with actionscripts. The download link for the fla can be found in below. Sorry for posting an external download link as the file is 7mb+! [URL]
I'm looking to do a sliding image menu like this one: [URL]. I can do this using tweening but it is not as smooth as using actionscript. Does anyone know what the name of this is as when I do a search as I can't find any solutions? I've tried 'thumbnail expand' and 'image easing' but am not getting any hits.
I have made a image-viewer. I've this AS for the viewer:
Code: import mx.transitions.Tween; import mx.transitions.easing.*; function loadXML(loaded) {[code].....
Now i would like to make a loop for the thumbnails so they don't have a beginning or end(Now when i scroll to the right the thumbnails stop at the last thumbnail, i want it to begin at the first thumb again).I'm also trying to make that the middle thumbnail represents the photo in target_mc.
I am making a gallery, which you can view here:[URL]ok, firstly, when you click a thumbnail, you cannot scroll them until you roll off the click thumbnail, and I'm not sure why. is it just a movieclip thing? or can I put some code in to re-get focus of something? ok, now for the two general questions:
1. When you roll over the thumbs, they go up, sometimes they flick back down though, even though you are rolled over them still. is this just because they are moving?
I'm creating a webpage, and I have made some buttons.Image 1 is the homepage, which is frame 1 in Flash.Image 2 shows that when I rollover the button "Portfolio,"I get a dropdown menu.I have this set as frame 3 in Flash.Image 3 shows that I've gone down the dropdown menu and rolled over "Photography." But if I rollout of any of the things from the dropdown menu, it stays at Image 2 (Frame 3)with the dropdown menu visible. Which is a problem...I want to be able to rollout of these buttons to revert back to the homepage, Image 1 (Frame 1).But, for instance, telling "Graphic Design" to go to Frame 1 on rollout means that if I try to go below "Graphic Design" to "Photography," I've rolled out--and so the rest of the menu disappears.So I want to roll be able to select anything from the dropdown menu, and only rollout to Frame 1 if I go outside the entire dropdown menu, not just one button.
Im trying to create via xml and a for() loop a thumbnails wiewer and each thumbnail have a simple onrelease function.....but my probleme is that my 'container' movieClip and 'BT' movieClip dont show when I export the movie...also when i trace()them the output is empty. maybe is because they are inside x.onLoad(xml){} function ? At the end of the script you can remove // before the trace() function for ckecking in the output panel. here is my code:
Ive made a movie that add strings from several input text fields to an array. This array is sent from the flash video to php. This is working fine when I preview the movie as Flash. The php script prints the variables as intended.
But when I preview it as html the arrays are all empty...
[AS] on (release) { number_of_attr1 = main._currentframe + 1; suggestions1 = new Array();
