I have a dynamic menu that I wish to be triggered by a flash button. The original graphic file had the following link on it:

I wish to replace the graphic button with a flash one. I have tried this but it does not work:

Overview: I'm creating a menu where buttons have a sub-menu that pops-up when you hover over the main buttons. The menu will eventually be populated by scanning labels in the timeline, and that seems to be working fine so far. Everything works good enough except you can't move your mouse up and down a popped-up sub-menu without the mouse_out function triggering. The mouse_out listener seems to be applied to all individual sub-buttons when I'd like it to apply only to the parent MC container of each sub-menu.
Is there a problem with the way I'm assigning sub-buttons to container MC's ? I've explored using an array to store the MC's as well, but still had the same listener issue. Could someone look at my FLA? If you do a find for "PROBLEM", that is a good place to start.
So, I've always struggled with the best way to do this. I have a method, but it seems like there's gotta be a better way.

I realize that there's some additional code that would need to be written here, but you get the point. Basically what I'm doing is disabling the button so nothing happens onRollOut. Then I'm setting all the buttons colors to null, but changing whichever button was flagged as active to red.
It seems like a really ghetto way of doing this, and you notice a visible flicker in color of the active menu item if there are a lot of items in your array. Does anybody know a better way to handle this?
i have some dynamic text fields getting data from XML. I can hilite their links with rendering as html and using css without a problem. What I want to do ise, triggering some events with them in rollover states, such as popping small information windows... I've made a thorough search for asfunction on the net & kirupa, but asfunction triggers on click, which doesn't really help. Another solution i have in mind is detecting what word is cursor on and taking acting through this, and found a .fla file mentioned in forums that does this, but again, it needed to click on the word (it used selection method, therefore textfield needed to be selectable). Yet another approach could be dynamically creating transparent buttons over the links, but i don't have the slightest idea how to get the x & y coordinates of a text string on screen. It's easy to get the location of the text field, but how can we get the exact loc of string in it? It was possible in director as far as i remember, but don't know about flash..

i have a problem with my flash menu. It's simple menu that contains one MC at start that works as button, u can edit size of the menu from external .txt file by changing the value of menu length. All that works fine , my problem is that every new duplicated mc contains dynamic text area as a label. Labels are also loaded from that .txt file , but that works only for the 1st mc because the newly created text areas in mc's dont have Instance Name set. How can i assign them from as?

I have a dynamically generated menu populated by two arrays, "menuTitles" and "menuLinks." Everything works great except the onRelease command. I get "undefined" instead of the contents of the array element (should be an HTML link). If I hard code the array element (menuLinks[1]) it works, but as it is, I just keep getting undefined.

I am trying to build a simple application. The first phase is selecting to upload a file from the user desktop or from the site's gallery.
The question is if the user chose to upload from the gallery, say, go to an PHP page gallery, choose a photo and then redirected to the Flash app. How would you trigger the Flash up to know there was an image chosen and it should load it?
Does PHP send a variable or create an XML based on a choice and pass it via Flash variable, or does it need JavaScript to tell Flash that if the Flash var is not empty run this function?

However, when I restart or rewind to the first frame of the movie, the code no longer executes. I'm not sure why this is happening, as it seemed added actionscript code to a frame seems pretty straight forward.

I am using Google's Audio player to play an MP3 on a webpage. My issue is that I am overlaying an image on top of the the play/pause button. Yet when the image is clicked nothing happens. Here is the code:

That did not work. One thing I noticed is if I have visibility:hidden; the flash player will not respoind to any clicks regardless of what is over it. With that said I attempted to overlay the image using <input> without the visibility:hidden; and it still did not work.
I need to get this fixed if at all possible. I am willing to use another flash player that is similar as long as it works correctly and will use an mp3 like above.
in my Flash/CS3 game I want the user to hold down SHIFT key to make their character run instead of walking. However on Windows I keep getting the "do you want to enable stickykeys" popup as a result. Is there a way to avoid this in Flash, or should I just use a different key... if so are there other keys I should blacklist as well?
View 1 RepliesOur testing department found that my flash menu sometimes doesnt work after going back to a page by clicking Back button in browser (Firefox).
It happens rarely and randomly, yet still it happens.
i cant see any pattern in its behavior and any reason in it.

i've tested this in every way i could think of,
it gets ROLL_OVER event, but not CLICK event.
ive also tested it with hasEventListener and it always has. its just not triggering function.
BUT clicking anywhere on page outside flash makes it work again.
Question: whose fault is this? Flash? Drupal? Firefox? God?
UPDATE: it looks like its caused by <param name="wmode" value="transparent"/>.
Firefox seem to have problem with that.

I'm using a class to dynamically populate menu items based on arrays. The menu has to allow individual chapters and lessons to expand/contract to display the slides within.
I'm trying to set it up so that when the user hits the Chapter or Lesson item, it rebuilds the menu with the appropriate Chapter/Lesson expanded. I've got that part working, but I need to remove the elements that were previously added using addChild, but I'm not sure how to clear all the elements from an object?[code]...
Lets say i hava category and some articles in it (one article - few photos and description). I want to make a thumbnail menu in footer each thumbnail linking to an article. The question is how to make this menu to load automatically? If i put articles in category/article1, category/article2 (and so on) folders, I want to see two thumbnails linking one to first article, second thumb to secont article. If i add one more article, i want thumbnail to be loaded to site automaticaly

The only problem is when I click any buttons it produces errorTypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.at resume_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()not sure what I have to do. All it's supposed to do is when you click a button the target movie clip plays frames 2 - 10 and the previous movie clip plays frame 11 - 20. Not sure what's the problem here.

Link to site: [URL] I've been trying to create a flash website menu that updates the menu text via an xml file. The problem I'm experiencing is that when I update the dynamic text in the menu, it doesn't seem to go through. I know I am referencing the dynamic text correctly as when I run the swf for the first time, I briefly see the correct text for about half-a-second before it is replaced by the default dynamic text. There is something that is overwriting the new text with the default values but I cannot see what is causing it.
I am changing the dynamic menu text in _root although the dynamic text exists in nested movie clips i.e. '_main.menu_mc.menu_panel_1.menu_button_1_1.menu_b utton_text'.
