ActionScript 2.0 :: Using The Key.IsDown Commands To Change The Yscale?

so iv been using the Key.IsDown commands to change the yscale (of something), but i am at a loss at getting the yscale (of that something) back to the starting scale when the key is released.

I'm using a tweening engine and I need to be able to base the _yscale % of a movie clip off the height of a dynamic text field that is slightly smaller contained within the movie clip. 52 pixels smaller to be exact.I'm very poor at math but I'm guessing so far that some variable needs to be declared to factor the percentage based off the height of the dynamic text field. And I just can't think of how to do that.What I know so far:movie clip height at 100% _yscale = 396 the 'buffer' space above and below the dynamic field = 52.So if my dynamic text field height = 0, my movie clip would be 52 pixels in height. And that percentage in _yscale is 13.1%.I just can't figure out the math for this and how to translate it into ActionScript.

I'm following a simple tutorial on making a platformer, but I ran into a problem. This is the code I'm using in a player movie clip:

In the actions of a movie clip,I want to use something like:

But,it does not take anything else than LEFT,RIGHT and some others.I even tried ASCII:

I'm trying to add arrow key control to my image gallery to increment and decrement the image number, but if I go to another section and go back to the gallery, the incrementing is doubled, so that I step through the images by two's. I have a character with multiple animations by way of movieclips, and I'm trying to have it move using the Key.isDown function. Now, my character is moving correctly, but when the key is released, the animation keeps playing. I tried adding a stop command at the end of the walkcycle animation, but that just causes the character to stay frozen on the last frame of the cycle.

I have a logic-sorta question about finding an alternative to an if/else statement that controls key.isDown detection.(NOTE: I am using senocular's KeyObject class, the utility found on his website senocular.com, that returns key.IsDown functionality to AS3)
typically in most game/character movement tutorials I see this:

else if (key.isDown(Keyboard.LEFT))

The problem im having with this code is the fact that theres an order it checks the keys due to the if/else statement.For example, if I was holding down the LEFT key and then simultaniously began holding down the RIGHT key, the RIGHT key's function would execute and override whatever the LEFT key's function was doing, since the RIGHT key is the first thing checked in the if/else statment.
The only work-around i can think of is making all the keys a single If statement, and a switch statement that controlls the movement. Which im having a lot of trouble getting to work at the moment...

I'm working on a game where movement is controlled with WASD, and other commands are controlled with YUIOHJKLNM<>. The problem I'm encountering occurs when pressing down certain combinations of three keys. For example, when I'm holding down J and M, the ASD keys won't work; only W will. The same applies to J and N, and K and <; W is the only key of the movement commands that will work.
There is nothing in my programming that I can see or find that is causing this error; I've performed several tests and managed to pretty much isolate the problem being something to do with the keycodes. Does actionscript 2.0 have some inherent issues with certain 3-key combinations being pressed?

How do I make it so that a key down function acts as a hard on/off switch, Instead of the momentary temporary toggle normally associated with "if Key.isdown"
Example: The "CONTROL" key is pressed, gotoAndPlay's an action, until the key is pressed again, which then gotoAndStop'S the action. Would I still use "if Key.isDown" or something else entirely.

I'm working on a pretty neat interactive music remixing site where you remix a song, then interact with a music video to make some cool stuff happen. I saw a few related posts on here, but I've got a bit of a more specific problem. originally I had the controls set so that whenever you click the mouse on the background (which I set as one giant blank button), that it would load a movie clip and unload the previous one:

This has been working fine, although now I'm trying to change the overall controls to assign every key on the keyboard to load a particular movie clip at the mouse x,y when pressed AND to unload the movie clip when it is pressed again. I think I might be applying the code to the wrong portion (in a blank frame in the timeline, not as part of any button or movie clip). I had the code setup so that I wasn't getting any errors, but nothing is happening when pressing the key. I also don't have a start on how to tell if a key has already been pressed, to perform a second action when pressed again (to unload the assigned movie clip). Here's what I've got so far:

I've had flash for a long time now but I've only decided to take a good look at it recently. I was looking around the net for tutorials and the like when I came across an interface that was only 50k by Synez. I don't know if you guys have seen it, but it looks larger than 50k to me, yet it's not. I downloaded the .fla file and looked at what the designer used the if tag a lot on the buttons and even certain frames. I guess this way he didn't have to remake anything and this contributed greatly to the file size since he reused existing movie clips.
Say for example that I make a movie clip where the buttons shoot out from nowhere. From this movie clip, I want to target another movie clip, the one with the content on it, without having to add anything to the buttons' movie. know how to use the "if" tags.

I have BUTTON_A inside MOVIECLIP_A on frame 1 this script on BUTTON_A is:

THE PROBLEM: I cannot get flash to do both commands from BUTTON_A. When BUTTON_A is clicked, its supposed to goto frame 2 AND show a blue square (just a simple graphic) AND loadMovie into the container 'MOVIECLIP_B'
I can't seemed to get both commands to work simultaneously. DId I write this script incorrectly?

The execution of JSFL files seems to have slowed down in Flash CS5. Or, at least, the updating of the display has been severely slowed down. I have a command I use all the time -- so much that I don't even think about it -- that worked fine in CS4 and earlier, but in CS5 it seems to execute too slowly. My command is a replacement for the "Step Forward One Frame" and "Step Backward One Frame" commands in the control menu (the "<" and ">" keys). I wrote them so that the selected symbols remain selected when going to a new keyframe. Of course, I use this all the time just like I did with the original "<" and ">" keys, and they need to run fast enough that I don't notice their execution time. They don't do that much processing at all, so it really shouldn't be a problem.
I also wrote some functions for profiling, and they indicate that the command is actually running in a reasonable amount of time (around 50ms). When I run it again immediately, though, the execution time balloons to about 300ms. Not only that, but in both cases the display takes its sweet time updating itself. It seems to wait until all activity is finished, and then updates. This means that when I execute the command repeatedly (keyboard-scrubbing the timeline) I don't get to see the current state of the stage until I stop completely and wait for it to update.
As I said before, I never had trouble with this in CS4 and earlier. So my question is: is there any way to tell Flash to update its display in a command, so that I don't have to wait for Flash to get around to it? Relatedly, is there any way to give the javascript interface a higher priority so it'll execute commands faster? keys). We have a web-framework with Flex and Java, whose basic functionality is to execute commands at the background(Unix) and parse and send it back to the client(Flex). This works fine for all silent commands.
We are using Runtime,process to execute commands at java side on request from flex side. The same we need to do for interactive commands/scripts as well.

its possible to have Flash commands in XML? I want the text "continued" in an XML file to have the following command:
_root.dealWithPages(_root.menu_xml.firstChild,_roo t.menu_xml.firstChild.childNodes[0],"noclick");
but this needs to be in the XML file because the text could appear anywhere in Flash.
