ActionScript 2.0 :: Xml Content Working With Layers?

I have to create a map in flash (I'm most likely going to be bringing in graphics from fireworks, but that's a separate issue).I have been provided with an xml document which (I am hoping anyway) will dictate which country on the map should change to a clickable state. This xml document is being output from a database for which some countries will have a 'story' behind them some won't .. but over time each country gets a story.
Primarily, the flash movie therefore needs to 'know' when a country has something to display.Thus far, I reckon the xml document will have to have a value for each country which says content = true or false (or content="0" or "1" .. meaning the same thing).The flash movie then needs to parse the xml value to enable it to display a clickable version of the country visible (layer / movie clip visibility?) IF that country now has clickable content .. else it just sits there in a different colour (i.e. greyed out) and isn't clickable. Hopefully the xml document will eventually also contain the URL which the button needs, so the right page opens when it's clicked. how do I link each country to it's bit of the xml document to control the movie clip visibility and pull it's getURL data to achieve this?

I have a project for my website and I would like to add scrollbar to the 3 pages. I have different layers for each page (with animation on each of them) and some layers start at different frames for example layer 1 goes from frame 1 to 20 layer 2 from frame 5 to 20 layer 3 from frame 10 to 20 how can you do this? do you select everything on frame 20 and convert it into a MC? Where do place the mask?
I have seen the tutorial that explains how to scroll a movie clip but there was only 1 frame and I do not know how to adapt it to multiple layers

I have an animation that shows items highlighted in a diagram. As the items are highlighted, the audio will play (to explain the animation). because we are creating this for people with possible disabilities, we also created captions with text for the audio. So, in separate layers, we created speech bubbles and text that is synchronized to the animated actions on the screen. this will also be synchronized with the audio. We want to have a button (close captioning button) that when users press it, they see the text captions and if they press it again, they don't see the text captions. my questions are
1) what will be the easiest way to create the effect i am looking for?
2) what actionscript command will i need for the button's actions?

I'm trying to do a presentation of some Adobe Illustrator graphics in flash for an architectual presentation. I want to zoom in on some content and have new layers fade in and out. I guess this is done by tweens, as I had som succes in that direction.The problem becomes obvious when I want to control my presentation. I want to set cue points/keyframes/whatever so that the presentation will start at the click of a 'next button' or a click og the mouse. Then I want it to stop at some point when the tween/moving around of objects is done, so that I have talking time before playing the next tween with a click etc.

I have a website I'm working on that uses multiple loaders. It has one preloader that loads the main page. The main page, then loads the various subpages of the website with a closing door animation between them. I have not created the instances of the Loaders within any function. However, when I run my movie, everything runs great, except on one page I have a combo box that functions fine except it will not drop down. I can click on it and press down to select the option I want, but I cannot get it to drop down. I had a friend of mine at work say that the preloaded components are kind of fussy like that, but there should be a solution!
I have another website that I preloaded a page that has the same input component on it that works fine, but the only difference I can think of is that I only have one level of preloaders on this site.

the snow effect always acts like the top layer, ok what i mean is, i have 3 layers, (1)toplayer= a car, (2)middle= snow, (3)low= background.I want to make the snow to be seen behind the car...i hope you understand what i mean , whenever i put the code from the link above it acts as the top layer and appears in front of everything.

I have a movie clip that loads thumbnails from images folder by reading the location of image from xml file...The problem is I have put up a scroll bar but its not working i.e its not scrolling the thumbnails' movie clip contents. I am uploading the fla...any line of code I need to change I think its the scrolling function. The scrolling script I used is from kirupa. I don't want to use classes in this...and want the up n down buttons to remain.

I followed this tutorial on making Tabbed Content with swapDepths, but mine isn't working quite right. When you click a tab the text and icon disappear behind the tab. So each tabbed page is an mc and there is a button for each tab that has this AS on it:

Plain and simple, I have a button that does not work if it exists on a layer below a loaded SWF. If I drag the button layer up above the layer where the eternal SWF is loading into and publish, the button works fine, yet if the button is below the layer that the clip is loading into it does not work at all, even when no content appears over the button. There is no button at all in the loaded clip that would interfere...

am building eLearning courses using a Flash-based AS 3.0 course playerI use SoundMixer.stopAll to stop sounds when progressing through the course, pressing buttons etc also call SWFs made in Captivate into my courses. These SWFs have audio in them. But when I progress through these slides (by clicking a next button), the sound from the captivate made slides overlaps (keeps playing). SoundMixer.stopAll does not seem to work for captivate SWFs

I've looked everywhere and keep getting the same answer. I have a standard flv player component with the instance name of 'movies'. i have a button, that when clicked i want it to load a certain flv into said player... so... ive got behind the button (for example..)

it compiles, i run my flash and my flv player doesnt play my content.. why?? the url is 100% correct as if i put it in manually, it works fine.

Is it possible to add layers, re-order layers, move movieclips from layer to layer or specify which layer a duplicate movieclip appears on at runtime with AS3?I am aware of the depth properties and the functions associated with that but it would be easier to have a concept of a layer because I am dealing with masks.I have a nasty feeling I'm gonna be told that layers don't really exist within an swf and that depths and setmask are all there is to work with.

I'm trying to load an XML file and place the content into a dynamic text field. The XML nodes contain content within CDATA sections that have basic <b> and <i> tags. Once I have the content loaded into a variable and trace it, I can see all my tags within.
I then place the content into a dynamic text field with html set to true but for some reason it doesn't show any formatting, the tags appear to have been rendered because they don't show up inline. I thought maybe this was due to embedded fonts but i have all of my bold, bold italic, italic and regular font's within a text field embedded so I wouldn't think thats an issue. Is there something I'm overlooking?

I've tried for hours and days to make my vertical text content scroller working in a flash fake 3d environment with rotationX / Y. But because of vector>bitmap conversion when 3d roationing, the scroller fails to works. I know the stratDrag method fails to work in a 3d environment. other than using PV3D or so ? cause I don't know how to work with PV3D, it's just tooooo complicated to get it for me.

i am trying to do something like a dynamic scrollPane, i was playing here with myself and nothing seens to work.i have a scrollpane component, and i want a mc in the library be the content, i use fscrollpane.setScrollContent() to set a mc to be the content.inside this mc i have a duplicatemovieclip to duplicate itself to populate the scrollpane...in a for loop from 0 to 10, my scrollpane don't show all the content...the scrollbar doesn't work...i don't know more what to do...

We have some Raptivity generated Flash content that worked fine for a few years. All of a suddent, our trainers noticed that the Flash files display as a black block. I can see the loading text and small bar so the Flash should be playing initially. Then it becomes write. Click on it, it becomes black. I can see them OK. My Flash Player version is 10.3.183.7 while one trainer is 10.3.183.5. Not too big a difference. I will ask them to upgrade too. Does the Flash player make older Flash content obsolete? The Raptivity we have is 4 years or more old.

I'm have made some buttons (movie clip) and when I click on it, I want a file (home.swf) to load in a loader (mx.contents.loader) and I want the other buttons to do the same, all load into the same loader. I have no Idea how to do that. The way I have it set up now, the home.swf will load over the entire screen and that is not what I want. I just want the content to load into the loader and have its content change once I click on the other buttons. Here is a copy and past of that I have at the moment, I'm using Flash 8 to do it all.

how it is possible to edit dynamic content and modify the content and save it, all within flash.I have tried some experiments in the past and have got the text to change etc which is easy but i need a way to save the content so the next time anybody sees the flash it will have the latest content until i change it again.

I have a menu whee you can choose a picture to lead, works great with first selection, but when you choose a different picture it loads over the last picture,I want to substitute the content of that movie clip not to load all the pictures in the same space. I treid to use clear() and removeChild(), but this only works when I choose pic1 then remove that to load pic2, is there an easy way to substitute the content for the new content?

is there a way to keep the content of a mc (attached content) when I duplicate it? I know that duplicate remembers size, position, rotation etc. But I want to get the attached content too.

how to load external swfs into the an MC content box using movies with embedded buttons?the problem i'm running into is this: i have animated buttons within movie clips. i also have a main_content MC in my scene into which i'm trying to load background images from another file. this other file has 3 frames, each with a different image.i don't know what the action script would be for a movie/button to load my external swf frames into the main_content MC.

Whenever I add a new layer, it seems to be linked to my 1st layer.If I delete something on the stage on the new layer, it's also deleted from the 1st layer. If I try locking the 1st layer, anything on the new layer-although not locked itself -can't be selected.

I've made my site with photoshop and all images are in *.*png, saved with transparency and in the same resolution 1000x750. I exported them into my working file in Flash. No problems here.I've started to put each of the images in separate layers and in stacking order I wish, still no problems.Now, I am about in 20th layers I am inserting the image, again in separate layer and what happened? The layer will cover over the layer which is almost at the bottom. Meaning...only the trasparency which is very strange.

I am trying to make an animation in which different layers (=images) come into the stage, then stay in place and other layers move in and stay as well. I have done 2 of the layers so far, converted them into movie clips, tweened them etc. When I run the cursor along the timeline, I see the desired result on the stage, ie everything comes in at the right time and stays in place. However, when I export it to view the film, only the first layer comes in, moves into place and stays there, and then nothing happens, ie the second layer never comes in.
I've tried everything I can think of, moving the layers around etc, and have deleted and redone the whole thing many times in an attempt to fix this, but I simply don't know what is wrong.
