ActionScript 3.0 :: Access A Class Var From A Static Function?
Jan 21, 2010I've summarized my issue in the following [code]...
1119: Access of possibly undefined property mc through a reference with static type Class.

Alright, so I have a class that is linked (via the linkage panel) to a scrollbox class. I'll paste the class here:[code]Ignoring the formatting, the commented out functions are the ones causing the issue. Adobe says that it's a static class and I can't use non-static functions. The way I wanted to use it was:
1. Call the page button generating function above.
2. In the main code in my program is this line:scrollbox.setClickFunction(historyContent.generate Page);So when the buttons that are supposed to be generated are clicked, the scrollbox class can call the History pages generatePage function and pass it which page to show. (I did this because there was a lot of text and a limit on how much would display, so small chunks sounded logical).
3. In the onClick function (which I haven't finished yet because the rest wont work), when you click one of the buttons it calls the set function. Its that simple.
I'm kind off oblivious as to what I'm doing wrong here... I have two classes: - Alley - AlleyCat
[Code]...
Let's say I have a Custom Event Class, and it has several Event types stored in static Constant:
[Code]...
Is there an easy way to validate that the type passed to the Constructor is one of the Static Constants of the Class, without having to check it against each value?
I load many classes in at runtime from external SWF's, accessing those classes is pretty simple, like so -
var currentDomain:ApplicationDomain = ApplicationDomain.currentDomain;
var modelClass:Class = currentDomain.getDefinition(className) as Class;
var model:Model3D = new modelClass();
However I've never tried to access static functions from a runtime class, and now I need to. How is it done? It seems like something that should be simple, but I haven't worked it out yet.
I often write apps in flash where I wrap all the display elements into one parent display object container (not the stage). Let this parent container be mc_world for example. I declare this in my Document class (Main) as:
ActionScript Code:
public static var mc_world:MovieClip;
Since this container is unique and often times needs to be referenced from various classes in the project (that are not its children) I find myself often doing Main.mc_world across my project to access this container.
Is it bad practice to directly access static members of the Document class throughout my project? Are there any simple alternatives? I don't want to dispatch events every time I need to access mc_world. And using a singleton class doesn't seem all that different from the Document Class (which only has one instance right?).
I have a set of classes that I've been using in one Flex program (Classroom). I just created new project and referenced the source path of the first program's com directory in its build path.
When I do an import, import com.cade.comm.CADEports;, everything looks good. When I use a variable in the code, CADEports.gotComm = true;, it still looks good. However, when I try to run it, I get an 1120 error that says "access of undefinded property...".
In the main program:
Flex Build Path -> Source path = ${DOCUMENTS}/Classroom/src/com
import com.cade.comm.CADEports;
...
CADEports.gotComm = true; // compile error here although when you type CADEports. it shows the gotComm variable!
[Code].....
Why does this work in the original program but not the second?
i want to access a movieclip or a textfield placed on stage within a static function defined in a class not in a document class ..

View 1 RepliesI'm currently working on a particle system for a game that I recently started development on, but I've hit a snag: I have a class particlecontainer that tells each particle what to do on enterframe, and which contains each particle as a child. I also have a class (mischandler) which has a static array that contains all current particles, as well as another static array that is a buffer to remove particles from the particlecontainer. Whenever a particle "dies", it calls a function which adds it to the buffer array in mischandler. However, when I try to access this buffer array from the particlecontainer class it does not recognize it as having any elements. If this is unclear here's a simpler explanation:
particlecontainer tells a particle to do it's enterframe function particle calls die() and adds itself to the removebuffer inside mischandler particle container tries to access mischandler.removebuffer but removebuffer has no elements Strangely, the particle can access the removebuffer perfectly fine and sees all the elements in it.
Error: Access of undefined method getStatus through reference with a static type Class.
Here's what's happening in the code. I'm trying to create a User class that is instantiated at the start of my app. I want the User class to have properties like mainStatus, with helper methods like setStatus etc. Pretty simple.
so on my HardDisk I have my flash_working folder with all my flash projects. I created my class file/package under the directory com.mypackage

That's all the code I have.
If I try to access the public var mainStatus through user.mainStatus that gives a similar error saying:
Error: Access of undefined property mainStatus through reference with a static type Class.

Can i create static function in a class in action script 1 ?
View 1 RepliesI'm currently writing a class where I'd like to call the class constructor without having to instantiate the class itself. Something like this : Class:

trace(testString); //wil trace the text "test test123" Is it possible to somehow achieve this? When I write the costructor method like "public static function ClassName" it fails. Is there any other way?
So I have a movieclip named runman_mc and I'm just trying to make it so when I press the up arrow, his y will decrease. I keep getting an error code 1119 If there's anymore info you need, I'd be more than glad to post it. EDIT: I just had to name the class runman_mc and everything worked

I'm trying to create a timer event to delay the instantiation of my movie clip on the stage but I keep getting the error: 1119: Access of possibly undefined property Timer through a reference with static type Class I'm confused with how to proceed. I thought Timer was a term already in the AS3 library, so how can it be undefined?

i am making an edutainment game using flash cs5, im really new at using flash, in fact we never yet tackle it at school, but i insist on learning about it.it my codes, i encountered this error
C:UsersacerDesktopJikanLibraryMain.as, Line 16 1119: Access of possibly undefined property Click through a reference with static type Class.
this is the code i used in my program
package
{
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.events.MouseEvent;[code].....
since im really new at flash, i really dont know what went wrong with my codes, it was working a while ago before i put the mouse event.
I have a support class called ICSNAArrays. It contains only static functions. In my main class file I have imported it and then when I try to call one of the functions I get a compiler error that says there is no method with the name 'ICSNAArrays' I don't understand this. There are no errors importing it. All of the spelling is correct I am 100% sure on that.

I have a site with ScrollPanes, that are calling a Class on what to display. (so the movieclip that I want displayed in the ScrollPane has a Class name.) Within that movieclip (webScroll) that is being displayed in the scrollpane, I have 2 other movieclips (web1 & web2), with unique instance names and eventlisteners targeting those instances. when I preview my site, i get this error: 1119: Access of possibly undefined property web2 through a reference with static type Class.
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to make a flash animation but I'm getting these two errors: 1119: Access of possibly undefined property enabled through a reference with static type Class. (line 4) 1061: Call to a possibly undefined method addEventListener through a reference with static type Class. (line 5) This is the code I'm using:
Code: Select allimport flash.display.*;
import flash.events.*;
stop();
buti.enabled;
buti.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,pla);
function pla(e:MouseEvent):void {
gotoAndPlay(2);
}
My animation is a initial photo that turns around and becomes a black backgroud (were I'll add some text), now what I want is that the photo won't animate until I do a click in it. I used a Layer with a transparent image and converted it to a button and the export name is buti. The other to layers were converted to movie clips named preto and foto.
If I have three classes:
public class Example {
public function Example () {
}[code]............
You can see that the two last classes extend the first one, and both have the 'variable' property. In case that I have an instance of Example and I am sure it is also an ExtendedExample OR AnotherExtendedExample instance, is there some way to access the 'variable' property? Something like
function functionThatReceivesAnExtendedExample (ex:Example):void {
if(some condition that I may need) {
ex.func()
I have a class Debug with a function called trace inside it which puts a TextField on the stage and outputs the text. Now I am trying to get the Debug.trace() function to do a "normal" debug trace as well from within side itself. of course this causes a recursive loop. I am trying to figure out how I can access the top level separately. I tried using namespaces such as AS3::trace but to no luck.
I know a solution is to rename my function to stop the conflict, but I would like that to be a last resort. It is being used in quite alot of places throughout my entire code so replacing it everywhere is going to be a ballache.
My first experience is build an aquarium with a lot of fish swimming, and they can be clicked. When one of them is clicked we should receive a trace message saying ("Im a Fish!"). To do this, I thought that the best way will be:
1- create a document class, named Main.as
2- create a base class, named Clicked.as
2- create a movie clip with a fish.
3- export the movieclip to actionscript. In the mc properties set Class as "fish" and Base Class as "Clicked".
i have a game that i want to put load screen on, which i created a separate class for. first the main class is initialized and in the constructor function, it does an addChild(loadScreen) which places an instance of the loadScreen MC on the stage. within the loadScreen is a "Play Button" that when a user presses this button i want it to continue startGame in the Main class. the way i tried it was Main.startGame from the loadScreen class, but that obviously does not work. is it possible to call a function from a different class.i have three files:
Main.fla
Main.as
loadScreen.as
the Main.as file:
Code:
package
{
import flash.text.*;
import flash.display.*;
[code]....
Basically, what I mean is I i have few layers of classes, that calls and change something on the 1st(root) class. In between the process I have to use static var and static function.But when I want to run a function which does not change any variables, for example:otoAndStop(someFrames), I need to make the function a static function too or else there would be error
Code:
1061: Call to a possibly undefined method checkStatus through a reference with static type Class.
