ActionScript 3.0 :: Access Flash Events Outside Swf?

Mar 19, 2012

I would like to know if flash events (say clicking a button) can be captured somewhere outside the swf. Say, I click on a button and a popup comes up telling which buttom was clicked. The popup should not be a part of swf.

Flash - How To Have Access To Get Events Dispatched

Dec 30, 2011

I am an AS3 code developer but this time I need to deal with a FLA that has an instance on timeline with complex nesting of movieclips and textfields (that are named via the instance field in Flash). The problem is that events (I put in the Documentclass) on nested movieclips inside that timeline placed instance are never dispatched.

Example code:
// my instance on Stage in all Frames of the timeline
public var thewall:MovieClip;
// event directly on thewall works
// the event is dispatched correctly
thewall.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,click);
[Code] .....
How do I have to access them to get the Events dispatched?

Flex :: Parent App Access Versus Events In Modules

Feb 2, 2010

Inspired by this Flex question, is it seen as better practice to dispatch an event back to the parent app, as opposed to calling a method on the instance of the parent app, from within a module? To me it seems that the module shouldn't know what methods are available at the parent, as such approach leads to tight coupling.

Actionscript 3 :: Iphone - Touch Events Vs Mouse Click Events?

Just wanted to ask if there is any advantage for either using mouse click event or touch tap events, when writing apps for mobiles or tablets (for the iphone especially)?

I know that both of them should work fine, but in term of performance, is anyone better? Are there any things I should be aware of when choosing either?

By the way am using actionscript3 to implement the app.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Mixing Stage Mouse Events And Children Events?

Sep 30, 2009

I have an animation that I want to start when clicking on the flash window. However, I've also have some buttons on the stage. If I add an event listener for MouseEvent.CLICK on the stage, then it 'eats up' the events and the buttons don't work.

I've tried some tricks, by adding some invisible buttons on top of the real ones, and use the MOUSE_OVER event to selectively enable/disable the mouseEnabled flag for the stage, but didn't work because it complains that the property or method doesn't exist (which I find odd).

ActionScript 1/2 :: Stacked Events - Events Get Added On Top Of One Another?

Feb 24, 2011

I have noticed that using the "addEventListener" and coming back into a frame, I get multiple events tied to the same component.The design I am using jumps to an "I" frame (intermediate) and then back to the "M" frame (main) when the user performs an action.I add event listeners to several components when I enter that M frame. What I notice is that the events seem to stack up for a particular component.

For instance, if I enter M frame, N number of times and addEventListener("click", handleEvent) to a radio button, I get N calls to handleEvent when the user clicks on the radio button. I guess this kinda makes sense but is not what I want. I just want one event of a particular type (in this case "click") to be associated with the a particular component. I get around this issue by removing the event(s) in the I frame. Then they get reinstalled in the M frame. Only one at a time.

So, just wondering about this behaviour. Is there a way to check for the number of events that are currently active on a particular component? Better way to handle adding events?

Javascript :: Engage Events In JS And React To The Events ?

Dec 26, 2011

I am designing a music player using JavaScript (jQuery) and HTML5, with Flash AS3 to fall back. Basically what I want to do is to be able to click HTML control elements and have them interact with the flash in order to play/pause and skip tracks in the playlist (playlist JSON file read by JavaScript, passes file ID to AS3, AS3 reads another JSON file to get URL, then plays audio)

This enables me to only use the Flash to play the audio, thus creating the same user experience regardless of HTML5 browser support. I'm assuming I will have to 'listen' for events in AS3, however any pointers in how to engage these events in JS and react to the events in AS3

Flash :: Access Local Access Database From It (or AIR)?

Nov 13, 2009

Is it possible for Flash or possibly Adobe AIR to have access to a local Access database?

I will have either a Flash EXE or AIR application running on a local PC (WinXP). The PC will also have a local Access database. I need my Flash application to get the data from this Access database. How would I do this?

I doubt it can be done with Flash or AIR alone (someone prove me wrong or right), but is there an option for some middle-man application to access the data base and send it on to Flash? How would this work?

Or could I read the MDB file into Flash and parse it myself? is there a library for this?

Flash - How To Sequence Events In AS3

Feb 10, 2010

I've been working with AS3. The crux of the problem is that before I run a function I need to know that certain conditions have been met, for example loading my config.xml and putting it into a class variable. Where I run into trouble is that URLLoader is async so I can't put code after the load, the only thing I can do is put it in a lambda on the listener.

var conf:Object = new Object();
var ldr:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
ldr.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, geoLoader, false, 0, true);
ldr.load(new URLRequest("[URL]"));
function geoLoader (e:Event):void {
[Code] .....

This worked great for short bits of code, but I've got a bunch of functions that are relying on huge amounts of preconditions (this pollutes the namespace if I use the first method) or functions that rely on one bit of the stack (which means that I can't use the second method even though it's slightly more obvious to me). So, my question is: How do flash professionals handle preconditions? I'm trying to find a solution that allows tons of preconditions as well as a solution that allows different orders of preconditions or just a few preconditions from a group.

AS3 :: Flash - Custom Broadcast Events ?

Mar 15, 2010

In Actionscript 3, most events use the capture/target/bubble model, which is pretty popular nowadays:

When an event occurs, it moves through the three phases of the event flow: the capture phase, which flows from the top of the display list hierarchy to the node just before the target node; the target phase, which comprises the target node; and the bubbling phase, which flows from the node subsequent to the target node back up the display list hierarchy.

However, some events, such as the Sprite class's enterFrame event, do not capture OR bubble - you must subscribe directly to the target to detect the event. The documentation refers to these as "broadcast events." I assume this is for performance reasons, since these events will be triggered constantly for each sprite on stage and you don't want to have to deal with all that superfluous event propagation.

I want to dispatch my own broadcast events. I know you can prevent an event from bubbling (Event.bubbles = false), but can you get rid of capture as well?

Flash :: Events Dispatching And Listening?

Sep 2, 2010

I want to have a main logic class that listens for dispatched events from an assortment of other classes.

for instance: i have a parent Map class that contains X instances of a State class. When the user clicks on a State class, i want to dispatch an event CLICKED along with the name of the state.

now this Logic class will see this new event and process the name of the state and perform some other logic stuff. no matter what i try i can only get it to work where the State class listens for its own Dispatched event. Which to me seems a waste, i could have just manually called the function.

I have read so many tutorials online about custom events/ dispatching and they are being used in a basic one class example.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Sending Vars From Php To Flash For Different Events?

Jan 1, 2012

I have an AIR app that is uploading a txt file to a server, and I have a progress bar set up in AIR for the user.

The php file that handles the upload then opens the txt file, parses and sanitizes the contents, and inserts them into mysql.

I was wondering if there is any way to have php tell Flash what's going on at each stage of the operation?

At the moment, my progress bar gets up to 100% once the txt file stops uploading, but then hangs around until php has finished the backend stuff.  This is fine - I like that the progress bar movieclip stays there until the mysql insert is complete, but I was wondering if it would be possible to reset the progress back and have it move as the php continues through the parsing and mysql insert, or send back a series of text vars saying 'Parsing text file' then 'updating database'?

I understand that you can only echo back to Flash once, and I've also come across that Flash bug that doesn't accept variables back when you are uploading a file as opposed to just uploading variables.

Java :: Are Socket's Events Queued In Flash?
