If I have added Event.ENTER_FRAME listeners to different components, how can I set or know the ordering of when these events will be fired on each enterFrame?Instead of adding enterFrame listeners to individual elements, is it better practice to have one element which listens for enterFrame events, and has an array of elements needing updating on enterFrames, thereby making it easy to organize and change the firing order of these events?
So when I navigate out of this movieclip once the function home1 is fired, I get the following error TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at home_fla::mc_content_13/follow() I know it is the function looking for that mouseThing_mc that is not there.
I have a flash app generating xml and it seems to just put the attributes for tags in a fairly random order. The problem is that I need them to be in a specific order because of circumstances outside my control. Is there a way to do this while still using the XML object and/or E4X? Or even XMLNode or XMLDocument? I'd really rather not have to resort to working with Strings.
I created an full flash template website loading external swf.Lately, I managed to add a fake3D rotation with AS3 and CS4 to this global template with an enterFrame.some of my external swf use a vertical scroller also using an enterframe function base on the x / y position of the mouse, the scroller dont work anymore.Can't an enterframe swf loads another swf with enterframe function?

All of these "walk a user" through a customized ordering process and capture all of their selection and showing them all of their customizations (and ultimately bring them to a final ordering screen). What's going on under the hood on these sites and are built in flash or flex? Is the person creating a separate image for every combination that you could possibly select or is something else happening here?
I still can't figure out if Flex or Flash is better for something like this. (why does adobe make these seemingly basic questions so complicated) Are there any good resource or tutorials for try to build this type of functionality in flash on a website?

This, as you can see if you place it in a keyframe and test a movie, produces a pixel effect that spans the stage width and height. I have an image underneath this (in a movieclip) which is fine. But I also have a piece of text (also in a movieclip), which is hard to read with the overlay over it. I need a way to order the movieclip with the text placed in it over the top of the bitmap overlay shown above via AS3 I should imagine.
I often populate my datagrids with a recordset, an array of record objects, by passing the recordset in the dataprovider constructor. However, this results in unpredictable column ordering i.e. it doesn't correspond to the order of the fields in the record object. I know you can define the columns and then use add item to add the records to resolve this, but I'm curious why the datagrid doesn't order the columns according to the record object field order in the first place and why the order can actually change between renderings of the datagrid?

What I can't figure out is how to implement the "Send order to kitchen" and "Call waiter" functions.
Each table will have a "client" computer running an air app. Calling the "Send order to kitchen" and "Call waiter" functions from the "client" computer should make the "client" communicate with a different "kitchen" computer over wifi.
it worked as I wished - by placing the swf under all other elements on the timeline via the addChildAt being 0. I now need to add another external .swf (over the top of the one I just brought in) and was expecting by using:

it would place it above the other .swf but in fact, it places it under one element of it. should this be the case of is there a different way to do what I wish to?
Whenever I try to remove an object/child with enterframe running I always get null reference error.In my particular case, the setup is Battlefield contains a lot of Robot:
A child (Robot) dispatchEvent that it is destroyedThe parent container receives the event and starts removing the child by removeChild and remove the child from an array of Robots.on enterframe, during a loop to move the robots around, sometimes I would get null reference, so I have to call if (robots[i] == null) continue;
How do you safely remove the child without sprinkling if robot is null all over my enterframe?
I am using the following code to load my flash file, contact a php script and decide what frame to play based on the results. THat is all working fine, the problem is that when the animation starts from Frame 2 - gotoAndPlay(2) - it seems to repeat a few frames over and over until the whole animation is complete.
I have done some reading up and the enterFrame is called many times so I can understand why the problem is there but I don't know how to resolve it. The interesting thing is, when I just use gotoAndPlay(2) in the if loaded section, it all works fine. It's only when it's in the onLoad for the loadVars that causes it to break. Using: Flash CS5 and Actionscript 2.0

i am moving from AS3 and Java to Expression Blend/WPF, but cant seem to figure out how to replicate EnterFrame event in C#, is there a update() or frameUpdate() function.
I have some stars in my flash file. I want them to dissappear when i get to the final frame. Can I delete the enterFrame? Then how do I make it re appear again?
Just wanted to ask if there is any advantage for either using mouse click event or touch tap events, when writing apps for mobiles or tablets (for the iphone especially)?
I know that both of them should work fine, but in term of performance, is anyone better? Are there any things I should be aware of when choosing either?

I have an animation that I want to start when clicking on the flash window. However, I've also have some buttons on the stage. If I add an event listener for MouseEvent.CLICK on the stage, then it 'eats up' the events and the buttons don't work.
I've tried some tricks, by adding some invisible buttons on top of the real ones, and use the MOUSE_OVER event to selectively enable/disable the mouseEnabled flag for the stage, but didn't work because it complains that the property or method doesn't exist (which I find odd).

I have a function that running on ENTER_FRAME inside another function that is called once on COMPLETE. I need to stop that ENTER_FRAME later on in the timeline. Here's the basic code:

So you see when myLoader is COMPLETE it creates mySprite that is an ENTER_FRAME and continues to run the function playerBarPos. The function playerBarPos then traces over and over again "this keeps going and going". How do I later in the timeline stop this?
I have two movieclips that determine their frame number by a variable. The problem I'm having, though, is that the frame doesn't change when the variable changes. The original variables are determined in the main timeline (_root.item_slot1= 0;).The following code is contained in the item_slot1 movieClip:[code]So it starts off in frame 1. If I change the original variable to 1, then it will go to frame 2. I have one mc called iquality. Inside this I have to mc's called iqualityactive_mc and iqualityinactive_mc applied to those two mc's is a script that fades one in and fades one out.
