I'm using the .unshift method therefore the newest values go into [0] and the rest are pushed down.
What is a good method to remove a value from an array once it has passed a certain length? For example i only want my array to hold 5 values.
Also, is there a method for clearing the entire array, ie removing all values? Or will i have to manually change all the values with a loop?

My problem is that I can't figure out how to decouple the loader from this loadNewRow function. Ideally, I'd like to figure out how to load all the swf's give them dynamic names... like thmb1loaded, thmb2loaded, thmb3loaded.. push into an a ("loaded") array and then have that be used to build the grid.Right now, its loading them every time the loadnewrow function fires. I'm sure its a simple matter of iterating a .name within a contentloaderinfo .onComplete when each swf is loaded...
I am doing a flash game with Actionscript 2.0 and have encountered a problem. I have this statement _root.bulletArray = [] that is storing all my movieclips that have been created with attachMovieClip. I was able to store all bullets in the array because when I say for it to trace the array I get the following:

How do I display the contents of an array in a text box? (AS3) It's a 2-dimensional array, if that matters.
This shows me the first entry, of course:

I have a movieClip called "button" within another movieClip called "movie1_mc" I want the "button" movieclip, which also loads XML on frame 12 of "movie1_mc to vanish on or after frame 13
This is the code I have in place but, "button" movieClip isn't disappearing. This is my first time using XML and Flash

Is it possible to create a invisible mc with in 2 other invisible mc's and if so would there be any complications. Im trying to do something similar and it gets to the second layer but then doesnt want to load the third inv-mc. Like loading an external swf to a container mc then in that same mc have another external load and then another.

My question, therefore, is (1) How do I send the request from my action script to my PHP form to request a record set. (2) Presuming that my dataset is in a PHP assoc array, how do I format it to send it back to Action Script. (3) How do I take the data received from the recordset, and put it inot an actionscript array, suitable for use as a data source.

I need to define an XML format and then read it in ActionScript3, which will be storing:the number of rows and columns in a grid the horizontal and vertical spacing in pixels the size of each square in the grid in pixels an optional label for each square in the grid an optional hyperlink for each square in the grd.The following is the kind of thing that would meet my needs at the moment, which demonstrates the four square types:[code]
My questions are things akin to "Should there be units on the spacing and size? (like 10px or 300px)" and "How bad would it be to use a XHTML subset of (table, td, tr with a elements in each cell)."But really I'm fishing for any precedent, ideas, or best practices. Particularly as they are relevant to processing such a file in ActionScript3. The goal is to be able to read the grid properties and to define a function that will give back a square's label and url given a row and column. (The easy thing about this format is that getting a square is just a matter of indexing into children of the grid node by integer... first column, then row.)
I want to create a grid of movieclips using an array. But every movieclip added needs some sort of unique idenifier so i can access each individual movieclip.
The grid is 6 movieclips on the Y and variable on the X(that doesnt really matter to be honest)
I have managed to create an Array that displays 6 movieclips on the Y using this [code]...
now i tried creating another class and storing the 6 tickets i made in this class in another movieclip and then using the same method in the other class (i called it Ticket_Batch) i created another row of 6 movieclips. although this kind of worked visually i could no longer access each individual ticket.
my question is: how do i create a 6 x 36(or any other multiple of 6) grid of my movieclips in the same class using an array (or 2 arrays) and giving each movieclip an instance name that i can access and use?
I'm trying to build an 8x8 grid of identical movieclips, in a multidimensional array, that I can then access by row, and play each in order. So far, I can get them into the array, but I'm having trouble playing each item in a row. Basically, I have 8 more selector buttons in another array, and I added an event handler to each of those, and I want to use the index position of each selector button to play the corresponding row in the first array.

I have datagrid. the source for this datagrid is a url that returns n number of rows in json format.
i want to save this result in an array and show 20 records in the grid at a time. and cycle to the next 20 records in a time interval.
I'm currently working with the OLAPDataGrid component and got stuck at a relatively simple task: I want to style the last row of the grid differently from the rest, so my cell item renderer needs to know whether he's rendering the last row with content in the overall grid, including those rows currently not rendered because they are outside the visible grid space. AdvancedGridListData's rowIndex property only gets me the row index of the renderer relative to the range of visible grid rows, i.e. when I scroll down the grid, a data item with an index greater than 0 gets the rpw index = 0.

I really like the thumbnail gallery for its simplicity and beauty. But I would like to ad or vertical scroller (I'm unable to find it here too, maybe I'm blind, just I'm more at the end of my seeking options) or a make a grid thumbnails, that will show 2 columns of thumbs and 5 pictures in each columns, then under the 2 columns i would like to ad a sort of arrow or button that if my gallery have more then 10 pictures it will go on the next thumbnail list. I'm not looking for any extra fading effects or special movements. Just would love to have a single thumbnail grid on side, with option to have lists of thumbnails by 10 if there is more then 10 pictures or so.

I have built a grid using an array and for loops and attach movieclips dynamically to that grid. What I want the moviclips to do is to look in the four spaces either side of itself i.e. up, down,left and right.I have managed to pull the grid coordinates out of the grid which enables me to tell the clip which grid space to look at but have been unable to successfully get the code to work.Here is my code:

My data grid is displaying stale data, rather than the real time data available in it's data provider (array collection). I've tried refeshing the data in the collection, but that has no effect. Below is my code, does anyone see what could be the problem?

I'm trying to code the snap to grid functionality. The dragged object should snap to the grid if the distance between the object bounds and a grid line is less than 5px. I found a way to do it if the object's rotation is 0 but it doesn't work if I rotate the object. I need a different approach. Can you point me into the right direction with the algorythm or any source code?

I've got a for loop running in a function. I want to break out of the entire function if a condition is met in the for loop, and obviously carry on within the function if not. I've got a layer full of keyframes. It's basically a circle that turns on/off, flashes, whatever,using motion tweens, but most importantly, it has a defined position on the canvasI'd like to place it in another spot, but when I try to select the whole layer and move it, it moves only the keyframe located below the playhead(I think that's what it's called), which won't do me any good.

I can get it to work if I use "this.circle.startDrag()" but I want to be able to use the startMove and stopMove functions on different children, text boxes and other objects generically. Is there an easy way to do this without selecting everything (problematic by the way) and using the transform tool?
