ActionScript 3.0 :: Building A Search Application?
Aug 1, 2010
I am supposed to design a Flash application. Part of this application consists of a search window. It is similar to your search window on a DVR. When you want to find a specific show or movie to record, you cycle through the letters and type it into the search box. As you type, results are instantly posted. Once you see the one you want, you can simply scroll over and select it. You can move in and out of the search box as needed.
I'm currently in the planning/early building phase of a desktop flex application that will be communicating to a Zend Application on a web server. The flex app will basically be like a layout/view in terms of the MVC pattern, it will make requests to various controller actions and display the data returned in a meaningful way, and post data that will update various data in the database on the server. Basically what I'm wondering is what the best way is to go about building a login system for the desktop application.I can't use the regular channels that you would if your users were accessing the application via a browser, so I was thinking I would do this:
Flex app posts login details (email, password) to a login action. The login action uses Zend Auth to check if the details are valid. The login action creates a unique hash (and stores it in the db somewhere along with the user's id) and returns a json object containing the hash along with the user's id to the flex app.Whenever the flex app makes requests to any action in the web app, it also sends along the user's id and the unique hash so the web app can verify the user.
I'm trying to make a drawing program in Flash 9 (AS3 ) which will allow the user to make their own caravan decking design. I'm having trouble getting it finished as I have only been working in Flash for about a week. Please see attached files.I think I'm on the right track, but heres 4 things I need to complete the work:
Add Object Focus: When the user moves the mouse over one of the decks I would like the decks border colour to change (0xFF0000) and to activate focus.
Add Object/Clone Copy: When the user starts to drag the deck and the deck has focus I would like the program to instantly clone that object to simulate the decks having an unlimited number.
Add Rotation: When the deck has focus I would like the registration point to be reset to the middle of the sprite. Currently I only have it working on one.
Add Collision Detection: I will have a basic drawing of a caravan in the middle of the screen and I wish for the deck to never go over the border of the caravan. When the user let's go of the mouse I would then like the collision detection to include both the attached deck and the caravan.
how to take what a user inputs into a s:TextInput and use that as a variable in a JSON data request? Basically, I want to have a user enter a search term, like "math" and then have that placed into a variable so I can use it in a JSON request. Something like public var q:String, except that my search box (and hence user input) is on another "view" of the application. I've just started with Flex Mobile applications and I might be way out of my league.
I want to create an application that has these features
- At client side: Display a list of images, when user click on one image, data will be stored in MySQL database.
- At server side: Manage images used in client side, I can delete, add new images.
Is this possible for me to achieve this using Flex? And if it is able, will my output be 2 separate SWF files? And where can I find the materials to read on writing such applications?
I've just tried senocular's xml tutorials. [URL] The search query seems case sensitive. How to make it accept upper and lower case characters. Actually i'm trying to make a search by myself by using the same code.
I am trying to create a search field in AS3 to search keywords in a dynamic text field of the same flash movie, where the text is loaded from an XML file.
I've started a project a while ago, so far it is almost done but there is something that I seem not to be able to do alone... I would like to add a search function which I don't know how to do.It will not be a normal search function so I am going to try to beak it down with an easy example:
Let's say I did a project that is embeded somewhere in a normal html page with a main menu from where you can get to different city maps (e.g. New York, Paris, Berlin). The maps are seperate swfs. On all those maps there are several buttons for historical sites (or whatever) with a mousover function and a link to a page with more information about that specific site (on html).the names of the buttons are always a letter and a number (New York: "N1","N2","N3"...; Paris: "P1","P2","P2"... instance name for P1 is p1_btn)
What I need now is a search field in the main menu where you can search for those buttons. Meaning if I type in "N2" and hit search it will take me to the New York swf and show me button "N2".
I know this might not make much sense like this but the actual version is quite different and more complicated context-wise. Therefore if possible I would like to leave it that way with the main menu, the linked swfs and the buttons.
I've got a catalog of events in XML that is read into my Flash swf. I'm trying to develop a search box that will search through the titles, descriptions, presenters, etc. and return a list of related events.
Does anybody know a prebuilt AS2 system that does this? Or a good tutorial on how to go about this? I have googled, but haven't found much.
Here is my approach so far. When I load in the XML I create an array of the frequency of all the words in the nodes that I'm interested in. I figured it would be useful to do this once instead of each time a search is performed. I store that word index in another array with an index that will take me back to the original node. I was trying to figure out if there was someway to put it all into one index, but then I'm not sure how I'd link back to the original nodes.
When performing a search I look through the array of word indexs and check for the word and return another array of which original nodes contain the word.
If the search term isn't represented I generate all the permutations of the word that have an edit distance of 1 -- i.e. that have a letter changed, added, or deleted in any position. So for example if the search is for "the" the list of 1-edit would be ahe, bhe, ... tae, tbe,... tha, thb...athe, bthe,...tahe,tbhe, ....... he, te, th. If any of those are found it returns the results and puts up a "Did you mean xxxxx?" type of notice.
So far all of this is working rather well.
I'm still working on figuring out what to do if the user puts two words into the search box.
Also haven't figured out what to do with plurals and other "stem" type situations.
I want to make this pretty simple and easy for people to get the results they want.
Its mostly the way google is set up that makes it so easy. I just happened to notice that the url for a google search is always the same except for the search variables at the end. http:[url]....So all I did was to add a textfield to get the variable to put on the end of the URL. (And a button to press)
How do i search use the code to search?e.g. From Zoo, To City Hall. The zoo(hv already create the flash animate to city hall)but the problem is how to write a code to point to zoo(action script)!
I've got a flash movie that reads in an XML file and has an input text box. When you type something in the input box, I want to search through the XML and return the names of the elements that match whatever is currently in the input box, even if its only partially complete. The input box has an event listener of type Event.CHANGE on it and it runs the following function.
Long story short: I want to search a multidimensional array in AS3 for (in this example) the location of 6 strings - all of which are stored in another unrelared array. Long story long: Once I get the locations (in the multidimensional array) of each string, i then know where it's located, and can access other atributes of that object - so if i found the string "box3" is located in element [5] of my multidimensional array, i can now target: multiArray[5][3] to return the 4th item stored (keeping in mind we're starting from 0, so 3 is the 4th position).
I can get this to work once, but I'm trying to set up a for loop based on the length of my basic string storage array - this array holds (in this example) 6 instance name strings - each time my for loop loops, i need to run a search in my multdimensional array for the next consecutive instance name. Then, once I've located all of them (and store the results in a new temporary array) I can dig around in each location for the info I need.
We have an application that works no problems on our server with FMS in test mode. As soon as we enter our FMS license key we get this error: "application is not a valid signed application loading access denied".We removed the license key and it works again, but with user limits obviously, so this is not an acceptable fix.
I am using Flash profassional cs5 and want to create an iPad application but it only allow to make iphone application. It allows to install on iPad but the resolution is very small.
I'm trying to develop a simple mxml Flex application to start Skype from the AIR/Flashplayer runtime. Is it possible to get back events from a native Windows application? In the simple example of Skype, the OS returns control to the Flex app when Skype exits. But what about native applications which have their own event model and wants to communicate with the Flex event model. For example, a Face detection system which shows "Hello" on a Flex app when the camera detects a face. Can this be done in the current Flex framework?
I am working on an Adobe AIR Application. The size on Application window is 800X600 and is contains border container and border container contains many controls. What I want is to if user re-sizes the application then that container should also be re-sized according to scale. i.e If user maximizes or minimizes the window then that border container should also be maximized or minimized respectively.
I have made one one mobile application in flash builder using flex mobile project I have a question that "why size of an .ipa file is large as I export a mobile application as iOS application.???? in compare to that same application for android takes small size!
how can i delete storage directory instances or folder while uninstalling any air application. In my application when i first time run my application, application copy some data from application directory to application storage directory. now i want to delete all data and application directory folder also while uninstalling application.
I am doing that because when i launch any update then application is accessing old data which conflict with my application new features.
I'm new to flex. Now I'm writing an flex application. I plan to split my application into some MXML files(Application as the root tag). How can I switch from one mxml to another?BTW, what is the best practice for design large flex application? Just one MXML Application and many MXML component or many MXML Application?
I have an AIR app that gets bundled with XML files that the app needs. These get put into the APP Storage Directory, of course. Works great. But when I install a new version ( which includes new XML files) , the new files don't get added or overwrite the ones from the previous version. It seems that if that directory is there from a previous install, the installer will ignore the part where it moves included files.
I want to read xml data to a mxml application from a xml file on my filesystem. The example I found was for AIR,link2, link3. But I want to target the Flash Player runtime. If I use the the tag, I can do it; however the xml compiles into my swf. How can I retain the xml file in my release build?
I am creating an application. At one view I have three states. If I changes state and than back button pressed it unloads the application.I am developing it in Adobe AIR.
I want adobe sockets to send "customized" class object to a server socket(WinSock2). I used socket.writeObject(myClassObj). Actually My flash application and windows application works for string buffer but not for object.
Code: //Flash var buffer:String = "God Bless Us"; socket.writeUTFBytes(buffer);
I have implemented some utility classes in Flex that I want to use in multiple AIR projects. I have created a swc which contain these classes. I am working on a Linux machine and do not have FlashBuilder. So I am using the compc and mxmlc command line SDK tools. My problem is that I have not been able to find a way to specify the swc when building the standalone project. A tutorial suggested the following command: mxmlc -load-config /opt/flex/4.1.0/frameworks/air-config.xml -library-path=/path/to/utility.swc hello.mxml. However, using that gives me the error hello.mxml: Error: Unable to locate specified base class 'mx.core.WindowedApplication' for component class 'hello'. Everything works fine if I move all code from the swc to a single monolithic pro ject. The code for the standalone project is:
I am not able to use fillColor and corner radius in spark. I want to use the mx components(halo) properties both in halo and spark application. Can any one of you help me in using fillColor and Corner radius in both flex 3.0 and Flash 4.0
i used systemManager.addEventListener in sub application...... it is working well....but when i load sub application into main application through swfloader it doesnot working..
