ActionScript 3.0 :: Changing Multiple MovieClips?

When i roll over the gallery buttons they light up when i roll off they go back to normal.when i click on one of them it stays lit up. My problem is when i click i need to be able to set any button that was clicked back to its original state and i cant for the life of me seem to be able to do that.

I have a group of 16 images that I would like to load 1 of each into each movieclip. I want image1 to be inside of visual1, image 2 inside of visual2, and so on. the images are named like, 1960s_(1).png where the 1960 (year) part is coming from the rangeNum variable. The above gives me this error: 1061: Call to a possibly undefined method addChild through a reference with static type int.

I have 50 images that need to be on stage, which will be embedded into 50 different movie clips. I named the movie clips image1-image50 and the images are in an external folder named 1-50. Every freaking article or tutorial I have found clearly explains how to upload one image, or just one at a time. I can do that, and spend 2 days renaming all the functions, but I do not want to do that. Is there a better way to just load all 50 images, place them accordingly?

I have 24 movie clips on the stage: my_menu.image_holder_mc1 thru my_menu.image_holder_mc24. I want to load an image in each one. How do I identify the holder which to add a child.

I have set up an animation that displays icons on agrid. Right now everything is working ok.I have an array of 4movieclips that are randomly selected to display on the screen.Each has a timeline that brings it from alpha 0 - 100. So far, soood.Now I have to add the remaining 200 icons. Now of course Icould make 200 more movieclips and add them all to the array butthere must be a better way, right?I thought I could just have just one movieclip and switch thepic out from an external xml list. But if I import them they won'twork with the alpha transition because they aren't movieclips,right?

I have some movieclips on my stage that are there via timeline. I also add movieclips on stage using addChild.
What is the best way of changing the order of the movieclips because they overlap sometimes? eg.
mc_a is on the stage already
mc_b is called on stage using addChild
Can I change the order of mc_a using script even though it was already on stage?
Can I remove mc_a off stage using script?
How do add mc_b under mc_a so that mc_b does not overlap mc_a?

I have 20 buttons (mc's). I want to be able to select one and have it stay in the down state until another is pressed. Frame 1 is "up" frame 2 is "down". I have an array of the buttons(mc's). This piece of code works but doesn't return the button to the up state when another is selected.

Is there a way to make many movieclips change the same way, off the same line of code.. rather than having to write them all out seperatly?
eg.
If this was the original code...
clip1_mc.onRollOver = function () {
clip2_mc._visible = false;
clip3_mc._visible = false;

The above doesn't work... but i'm wondering if anyone knows of a method that will work... saving me from having to write so much code in future?

Using a for loop I've created a few instances of a movieclip, but I'm having trouble trying to having them appear one after the other at an increasing pace.
For example, I want the first clip to show with a delay around 2 seconds and the last with almost no delay.
So far I've only been able get Timer or setInterval to have a single delay setting.
I'm not coming up with anything other than coding on the timeline which I'm trying to avoid.

in order to create a movieclip object in FlashDevelop. Because there is no option (like in CS5) to give a library object a class inherently.What I need to do is be able to switch which movie clip is being displayed as my character walks about. Do I have to create a separate class for each movieclip and call them in and out of visibility?? Or is there a better way, a way to "switch" which movie clip my current class is pointing to?

I'm writing a game with Flash CS5/AS 3.0 that tries to simulate depth of field by drawing all the relevant Movie Clips based on their Y position in ascending order, i.e. things lower on the stage overlap things higher on the stage. A MovieClip with a Y position of 10 would therefore need to have a lower index compared to a MovieClip with a Y position of 20, so the second one gets drawn on top of the first.
I wrote a quick and dirty function just to test this. During the trace, I've noticed that the truck's index hits 0 when I go near the top of the stage, but if I go too far up it will completely disappear from the stage. Trace then starts generating this error:
ArgumentError: Error #2025: The supplied DisplayObject must be a child of the caller.
at flash.display::DisplayObjectContainer/getChildIndex()

I have written code that continually adjusts the colour of a targetted movie clip using a Color object called 'myColor' and an Object called 'colTransform' to adjust the colour of a movie called 'myClip':

I could also write a loop that loops through a number of objects and applies the colour changes to each in turn but I'm looking for a simpler solution - is there a way of doing this?

I know how to change the alpha of one movie clip at a time on rollover, rollout, and release. But I'm a bit stuck trying to figure out how I would change the alpha of multiple movie clips, when one is clicked. It's for a simple photo gallery and I want all the thumbnails to darken once one has been clicked & the image is loading. I can't just fake it by having a somewhat transparent black movie clip appear over everything, because I need the alpha of each thumbnail to be able to change again once people roll over a new thumbnail.(a section of my code is included for reference but there are like 30 thumbnails so I didn't include it all, the code is the same for everything)

I am at work right now trying to create a power point for our Christmas party. I know I can do so much more with Flash than I can with any other power point program. Right now, I'm trying to figure out a way to load a list of names into one dynamic text field that changes at certain time intervals. I'm using ActionScript 2 right now b/c I haven't learned 3, yet. Is there a way for Flash to access a word document and load a name say, every minute? I know I could add a different variable name in front of each employee name, like content, content1, content2, but I have a list of like 300 names here. That would take up almost as much time as it would creating a slide for each name in Power Point.

I have a question regarding ActionScript 3.0 and using buttons to change numeric values in a Flash project. I am trying to create a program that adds and subtracts numbers when buttons are clicked. Here is the code that I have written for the first button that I want to use:

you'll notice on their main page, when you roll over section "living" all movie clips below which are "living" projects are highlighted, while others are faded out.I have a vague notion that this is done by creating a series of arrays, one for living, one for learning, one for working, etc etc etc... and then changing whole sale all MC's contained in those arrays upon roll over.First of all, am i correct in this assumption? If so, i really need some pointers to get started. Say i want to define these arrays, and on the press of a button, one directs its movie clips to change alpha to 50, and the other to 100. All of these movie clips by the way are visible on the stage.

add some functionality to the presentation template. Currently you can only move from one page to the next. So if I want an animation on a page, no problem I'll just add a stop script at the end. No big deal. But if I want Multiple animations (just trying to replace powerpoint here) then I get into trouble.
Each page is one frame on the main timeline. Hitting left/right goes to the next frame, unless the movieclip on that frame also has additional frames. Then it should move to the next frame within that, etc.
I can't figure out that if statement though. I had another bit of script going on my first go, but ran into some issues so thought it best to create all of the scripting on the main timeline. Initially I created a boolean variable, then ran an if statement. Inside of a movieclip I switched the boolean and used the same keyboard interaction to walk through it. On the last frame of that movieclip, I switched the boolean back so the main timeline interaction kicked in again. The problem is, that's a Lot of copying and pasting of that code, and I can't figure out how to go through more than one parent. I just couldn't get it to work.
Should I just be building this thing in a Completely different way? I need to make something, so for now I'm splitting up each frame that I need different animations on and creating a different movieclip for each section. Ideally that would be contained in one movieclip's timeline. Currently one each animation's interaction will be on a timeline. So I have to duplicate the slide to add an animation. So if I have a title come in, then a pie chart, then an image, then another piece of text, I'll be stuck with 4 separate movie clips.
I want something like:if current movie clip current frame is == total frames, clicking right goes to next frame, else go to next frame of it's parent's timeline.I say the parent and not stage because the way you have to set up transitions only works within a movieclip. So you have to set up the entire slideshow within a movieclip if you want transitions between each slide. Right?
I don't care about transitions for now, but will want control of those eventually.

I have a few movieClips and I would like them to play one after the other. [At end of MovieClip play next movieClip]. Using AS3 to Tween, this is my first Clip props.

I am making a website with complete external xml data holding text and urls to images. I have several categories. One of the category has three sub categories as menu. When I click btn1 it gets the xml and start making text field, rectangles, lines and picture frame for thumbnails. Before that I use a single movieClip container to hold all that stuff and then point it to mask and scroller too.That is working fine. Now the problem is that when I click on btn2 I want to remove previous container and make a new one.
Now what happening is that it is creating one more container of different xml and putting over the previous one. I have used removeChild command and it is still not working. It only works if I use it alone and do not create a new container. All this process is done on a movieClip. That movieClip holds container, mask and scroller. The only thing that is made dynamically is the container. Rest of the items are on the timeline of the movieClip. I need to remove container inside of the movieClip and make a new container inside the movieClip.

I have several movieclips in my project which are being used as buttons, and when you rollover the mc's the content is viewable the entire time the mouse is hovering in the area of the movie clip, once the mouse moves off it disapeers. Great. I have the code that allows this to happen, but i have multiple mc's and only one works at a time. Here is the code:

I have created a flash whack-a-mole game, and coded the 9 different x and y cordinates the 4 moles can come up on. But I can't code it so that the moles can never have the same x and y cordinates.
I have tried this code: (Barney and mulvarp is two moles. .flytt(); is the command that gives the mole a new place to be.

I'm following a tower defence tutorial and part of the code is set up so I can build towers on the "grass" movie clip. I wanted to add more patches of "grass" and gave them all the same instance name so I can be able to place towers on them, but I have the problem that I can only place towers on the first item I placed and has the instance name of "grass". I can't seem to place towers on the other patches of grass.I removed the instance name of the first patch of grass and it let me build towers on the second patch, but the second patch only.

I have 3 movie clips in my scene and they all function properly individually.Problem: only the first movieclip will work in my test of the full scene.If I move a movieclip from the bottom to the first position in my scene, then it will run while the others are stopped I can't figure out how to tell the program to activate all 3 simultaneously - so each button (linked to one scene in the movie clip) will be available to click.The code from each movie clip essentially looks like this
