View 4 RepliesI have a large ON2 VP6 encoded FLV video (334 MB, 75 minutes) hosted on the web and being played back using a basic Flash movie player:
[URL]
Many people are having problems getting the entire video to load. The loading progress bar will increase quite quickly at first, but then it will either slow down to a crawl or will stop completely. If the progress bar stops increasing before the video has fully loaded, it will not continue no matter how long you wait. Reloading the page does help.
Is this likely to be a problem with the FLV file, the Flash player or is it more likely to be a problem with our web host?
There is a simple html page with intro video (.mp4 file). Video frame size is 1280*1024 (I need video to be as large as page up to 1280 px).
With such quality settings video file size is:
.mp4 = 42 mb (HD 1690*1080)
.flv = 32 mb (1280*1024, 25 fps)
For video playing I used as3 sample script (because there must be only playpause, replay, mute buttons with custom styles), like that
var strSource:String = "video.flv";
// create a new net connection, add event listener and connect
// to null because we don't have a media server
[Code]....
The problem is that I can't find a way to play it smoothly. It's loading in very annoying way, video is interrupted after each few seconds of playing.
I understand that the main problem is large video file size and hd quality, but may be there is some way to largely decrease .flv size or handle playback in more friendly way?
I have recently "inherited" several websites that feature 1 to 10 minute video animations in SWF formatOne of my challenges is to get these files to appear or play in a timely manner so that the viewer does not loss interest as it is loading. My questions will start with file size.reduce or minimize the size of published SWF files while still maintaining high quality video output? Second, how about this business of preloading.I don't really understand that term but my thinking is that if a large movie could be loading while another, shorter, movie is playing, or a graphic displaying, that this could be useful in my case. Lastly, how about streaming in general. Are there ways to optimally use a given download speed to efficiently stream SWF video?
View 5 RepliesI read an Adobe article which demonstrated H.264 video playback support in Flash Player. Would video encoded in this format be more compressed than typical FLV videos? Should I be using this format for video I place on websites from now on?
View 3 RepliesI've written a SWF distributor which GZIPs the SWF then sends it as an SWF content type, it works just if the SWF used to loop it no longer does. Any reason why the compressed SWF doesn't loop the video/animation?
View 2 RepliesI have a custom swf player, in which content is preloaded. Some of the third-party Flash content (from Captivate) I load in the player needs to be unloaded and loaded again in order to completely reset its content (rewinding, going to frame 0, does not work). Does anyone have an example of a good way to do this, as I am rather new to Flash?
View 3 RepliesWe have developed flash video player which needs to playe large videos (at least 500 MB videos).We have some issues in the player right now.I am playing a 100 MB + video, it start playing and say it is buffering upto 50% of that video. Then I am closing that page. If I take that video again, it starts downloading from beginning. It never resume downloading from where it buffered previous time. But for small video files, this is looking ok. Is there any size limit a video player can buffer?Is there any better way to play large videos (more than 500 MB). Any other protocol or any other settings in flash player?
View 1 RepliesLoading takes too long time. Maybe there are some workarounds to make it load at least a bit faster. There is a way of creating static XML - it means splitting existing database records in one, and new records - to dynamic XML (so it's not requesting all Mysql rows in every single page request), but I'm not sure if it's going to make it load fasterWhen loading XML some browsers stop at apprx. 70% and does nothing. (can't figure this one out)
View 6 RepliesI am creating a Flash site for a client who wants to display many (about 15) fairly hi-res photos as well as a video. I am using the Video class to display and control the video, and the Loader class to load the photos. I preload them from an XML file up front, while "loading..." is displayed.
The video plays immediately after the loader finishes, and the user can also choose to view the slideshow, which has left/right arrows which show each photo with a simple fade tween between each one.
The problem I am having seems to be that when all these assets are loaded, the video and the "fade" effects are very choppy. If I cut down on the number of photos, everything works fine; but I have to include all of them, plus the video.
I am storing all the Loader instances in an array, and when they are requested, I add them to the stage and fade them in. When it finishes fading in I remove the previous one from the stage. So they are all stored in Flash's "memory", but there is only one Loader or Video instance on the stage at any given time. Is there a better way to handle this? Perhaps some way to cache the images but not bog down Flash's memory? I would prefer to have everything loaded up front in order to avoid needing a "loading..." for every slide.
I have this code which works fine when selecting a small number of images.
public var fileReferenceList:FileReferenceList;
public function browseFiles(event:Event = null):void
{
[Code]....
However, when selecting a large number of images (1000+), the fileList isn't initialized yet when the SELECT event is dispatched. Is there a way to wait for the fileList to be initialized?
I have an Mp3 which is approx 100mb on my server how can i load only small segments at a time so that when people listen to the mp3 it not downloading the full 100mb mp3 file all the time
i am using streaming mode, here some of my code i am using the loadsound command
[Code]...
I have made an application which loads large pictures and videos (1920*1080 px).
- Picture component is a swf movie that I load with a Loader and feed him with the path of the picture I need
- Video component is a custom actionscript class that uses Video class.
Before to create any of these components, I display an animated sprite (a wheel to suggest a current loading). Then I create this component and load the content. When the content is loaded, then I add it to the display list and remove the wheel sprite.As these actions take a while, the wheel is visible for 1 to 2 seconds. My problem is that during this loading operation (by a Loader or Instantiation), the animated Sprite is not running properly and smoothly, like if Flash was loading the pictures and videos synchronously.Is there a way to make an animated sprite running properly while I am loading a swf or loading a video through the instantiation of a class, means running something asynchronously?
I'm having a problem loading a 3900 x 5300 PNG file into a movie clip. Is there a limit to the image dimension? When I tried loading smaller png files, it works.
View 1 RepliesI'm building a flash based site for my photography in Flash CS3 with actionscript 2. The swf is almost 700kb so I guess I'll need a preloader right? I thought I could create a preloader scene before the main content scene and apply the following code to the single frame within the preloader:
Code:
ifFrameLoaded ("website", 3){
gotoAndPlay ("website", 1);
}
This doesn't seem to work as the large images in my gallery (contained within a movie clip) won't load unless you leave the gallery page then go back in?
I am loading the swf of this scroll bar into my main project using a button. How do I make a large version of the thumbnail load above the scroll bar?
Here is the code that is on the main timeline:
//Import TweenMaximport com.greensock.*;
//Save the horizontal centervar centerX:Number = stage.stageWidth / 2;
//Save the width of the whole galleryvar galleryWidth:Number = infiniteGallery.width;
//Speed of the movement (calculated by the mouse position in the moveGallery() function)var speed:Number = 0;
[Code] .....
loading large images(12000x6000). there are a number of interesting workarounds, but all a a bit clunky.
this is for a local application - not internet.
At the moment, I am loading an external SWF file into my movie. The swf file contains a large FLV video... At the moment, I am using the code below, and the video is being loaded into a movie clip with the label "vid1"
_root.vid1.loadMovie("womanonbike4.swf");
The video loads fine. However, because it is such a large video, there is a delay. Can I PRELOAD the video during the main movie's Preloader?
So, my main movie starts, a preloader loads the entire main movie AND the external SWF file (womanonbike4.swf). Then, when the movie gets to the part of the main movie, where the external file is loaded, it will just play!
What is the best way to work large amounts of external data in Flash? XML, remoting,something else??I'm looking into a project that has a lot and I'm not sure what the best way to handle it would be
View 1 RepliesI need to load a dictionary into a game I'm making. It resides in a very large (on the order of 2.81 MB) XML file. While trying to load it, I get an error stating that the script has run for more than 15 seconds. Is there any way I can change the default timeout to allow the file to load?
View 5 RepliesI have a photo gallery that is XML based. In IE everything works fine. In Firefox, the gallery will load all the thumbnails and then hang up when loading the large image. The trouble is this only happens on the galleries that have a lot of images in them. It works fine with smaller galleries. Since it's xml driven, the images are not loaded until called for and all the thumbnails get loaded. I did see a post about a var being collected for garbage if it's defined inside a function, but I've tried to limit that to just declaring a new image to be displayed. My site is: [URL]. If for some reason you get a page saying that this site is under construction, click the link to the gallery again. I don't know why that keeps bringing up an old page.
View 2 RepliesI tried converting a .swf file into .avi through ffmpeg, and I got the error 'compressed swf format not supported'. How does a compressed .swf differ from an uncompressed .swf file? How do you specify which one you want to make, and is it even possible to? How would you decompress a compressed .swf and what should you expect to find? I googled a lot of these but I didn't manage to learn much from the bits and pieces I found.
View 1 RepliesI am involved in project managment for a large video conferncing project involving over 100k simultanous connection and most likely to be increased 4 times by next six months.While figuring out the scalability area ,it was concluded that smart selection of hardware and origin-edge clustering will be suited most. Well while studying this documentation says it supports thousands of calls but unfortunately I could not determine the actual numbers. Can you tell me how many edge server will be needed for 100k simultanous calls/number of sessions per edge server and will we need license (4500$) for each edge server?
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to load a local file using FileReference load(). It will load small files just fine, but when I try to load a file of around 4-80 megabytes the flash player will crash. I read the load method officially supports up to 100 megabytes.
Here is the exact class I'm using to test:
ActionScript Code:
import flash.events.Event;
import flash.events.IOErrorEvent;
import flash.events.ProgressEvent;
import flash.net.FileReference;
import flash.net.FileFilter

I would like to add a very small and simple Flash audio player to my website. I have found lots of Flash MP3 players, but I can't seem to find players that will work with other types of audio files, such as aac/m4a/mp4.
I had previously been using Windows Media Server to stream WMA files on my site, but this only works for Windows users, and I need streaming to work for Mac users as well. So I think Flash is the way to go, but I cannot use mp3's because of licensing concerns.
I've been looking and looking for a flash player that supports other audio types, but can't find one. Is it true that flash has a native class for mp3, but doesn't have built-in support for others?
I have imported voice-over into my flash animation project as a WAV file. When I test it within the library, it's perfect. When I play it back using "Play" under "Controls" it is slightly degraded. And then when I play it back using "Test Movie in flash professional" under "Control" and when I publish the file, the audio is severely compressed and distorted. Why does this happen and how do I fix it?
View 2 RepliesI have a string, I am compressing it with bytearray and save it to a file. In other application I am loading it and when I try to uncompress it, it's give me an error. How can I convert a compressed string in to bytearray type to be able to convert it? The code for compression:
var b:ByteArray = new ByteArray();b.writeMultiByte(t,"iso-8859-1")b.compress();
I can think of to prevent my external images from being compressed. I have a few png files being pulled into flash via XML and AS3. For some reason the images that are being pulled in are being compressed and look terrible. What can i do to prevent them from being compressed so much. They are pulled in via an empty movieclip.URL...Here is the AS that is being used to pull the images in and the XML information.[code]
View 1 RepliesI want to capture audio samples from the microphone in my adobe AIR application and then save them to an flv file. I have the following code:
mic.setSilenceLevel(0, DELAY_LENGTH);
mic.codec = SoundCodec.SPEEX;
mic.encodeQuality = 6;
[Code]....
The problem is that I suspect that in my handler I am only getting raw samples and not compressed samples. The reason for my suspicion is that the number of bytes I get per message is equal to 20 ms (which my definition is 1 speex frame) of raw audio and not compressed audio. Also the number of bytes doesnt change if I change the encodeQuality. Reading the documentation suggests that adobe will only compress the audio before transmission to a flash media server or another peer. Is there a way to publish and read the stream locally in order to get compressed samples. ? Or any other way to get the compressed samples?
Does the uncompress method of ByteArray only supports level 3 compressed streams? Because I have a valid zlib compressed file but compressed in level 2, and Flash always throws me the 2058 error message.
I've also tried using the DefaultCompressionAlgorithm class for AIR with its two compression methods, but with no success.
Doing some quick tests with python using the same file gets uncompressed with no problems.
