ActionScript 3.0 :: FileReference - Flash Player Crash Loading Large Files

Sep 16, 2011

I'm trying to load a local file using FileReference load(). It will load small files just fine, but when I try to load a file of around 4-80 megabytes the flash player will crash. I read the load method officially supports up to 100 megabytes.

Here is the exact class I'm using to test:
ActionScript Code:
import flash.events.Event;
import flash.events.IOErrorEvent;
import flash.events.ProgressEvent;
import flash.net.FileReference;
import flash.net.FileFilter
[Code] .....

Php :: Flash Video Player Buffer And Large Video Files

Aug 4, 2011

We have developed flash video player which needs to playe large videos (at least 500 MB videos).We have some issues in the player right now.I am playing a 100 MB + video, it start playing and say it is buffering upto 50% of that video. Then I am closing that page. If I take that video again, it starts downloading from beginning. It never resume downloading from where it buffered previous time. But for small video files, this is looking ok. Is there any size limit a video player can buffer?Is there any better way to play large videos (more than 500 MB). Any other protocol or any other settings in flash player?

ActionScript 3.0 :: FileReference.save() Causing Crash?

May 16, 2011

I'm currently using the FileReference class to allow users of my program to save and load files from their PC. I'm currently trying to get the save function to work (I'll do load later) and it all seems to be working perfectly but while testing it (locally) it crashes Flash Player every time it saves.

The code is pretty simple just now (this is contained in an event handler which triggers when the save button is pressed):

var levelData:String = GetLevelData();var outputFileName:String = "NewLevel.txt";
saveFile = new FileReference();
saveFile.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, SaveCompleteHandler);
saveFile.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, SaveIOErrorHandler);
saveFile.save(levelData, outputFileName);

And it all works fine - the NewLevel.txt file appears where I want it to and contains the correct data. But as soon as this has completed Flash Player quits and I get the 'Flash Player Quit Unexpectadly' message. There are no errors in the output from my code. The SaveCompleteHandler function has been called and the SaveIOErrorHandler function has not.

Could this be a bug in Flash player? I'm using a Mac and have encountered a few bugs with the Mac version so I wouldn't be surprised if this was another one.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Loading Large SWF Files Into A Movie With A Preloader?

Aug 7, 2009

At the moment, I am loading an external SWF file into my movie. The swf file contains a large FLV video... At the moment, I am using the code below, and the video is being loaded into a movie clip with the label "vid1"

_root.vid1.loadMovie("womanonbike4.swf");

The video loads fine. However, because it is such a large video, there is a delay. Can I PRELOAD the video during the main movie's Preloader?

So, my main movie starts, a preloader loads the entire main movie AND the external SWF file (womanonbike4.swf). Then, when the movie gets to the part of the main movie, where the external file is loaded, it will just play!

Starting/streaming/loading/playing Large SWF Video Files?

Jul 28, 2009

I have recently "inherited" several websites that feature 1 to 10 minute video animations in SWF formatOne of my challenges is to get these files to appear or play in a timely manner so that the viewer does not loss interest as it is loading. My questions will start with file size.reduce or minimize the size of published SWF files while still maintaining high quality video output? Second, how about this business of preloading.I don't really understand that term but my thinking is that if a large movie could be loading while another, shorter, movie is playing, or a graphic displaying, that this could be useful in my case. Lastly, how about streaming in general. Are there ways to optimally use a given download speed to efficiently stream SWF video?

IDE :: Flash CS3 Files Crash When Publishing To CS4

May 8, 2009

I have decompiled CS3 fla's and I am trying to publish them as CS4 files. I have Flash CS4 installed on my computer. Some of my files will publish but not all of them will. It is getting rather frustrating trying to publish these files while all I have changed is the text. Although as you must know, the text is now a graphic(from the Flash Decompiler), so I am now trying to publish the new file and it crashes. It does save as an fla but will not before a swf.

I know the message boards keep saying to uninstall Flash CS4 and re-install CS3 but this is not an option for me.

Flex :: Why SWF Causing Flash Player To Crash

Aug 6, 2009

I've got a flex-based swf, which is loading an AS 2-based swf and then, negotiating further activity via a LocalConnection. From time to time, the AS 2-swf can request that the flex-based swf load a movie. I've arranged this via on(release){} functions. The AS 2-swf, I'm making in Swish Max. In Swish, when I set the on (release) on a text field, (to invoke .send() on my localconnection), it works splendidly. However, when I attempt to perform the same calls for an on(release) attached to a movieclip, it actually causes the Flash player, and even the browser plugin to crash. In fact, the browser (IE) crashes as well. I checked the debug trace that ie asked me to send to microsoft at the last IE crash, and i noticed a StackOverflow exception embedded deep in the trace, but I couldn't determine its source.

Professional :: Flash CS4 Crash When Scrolling In FLA Files

Jun 28, 2010

Today one of our artists started experiencing a crash in Flash CS4 Professional when scrolling the workspace around in one of his .fla files. All he has to do is hold down the spacebar and scroll around with the mouse; or use the scrollbars to scroll around. It has crashed about 10 times in the last hour, and we copied the file over to another machine and saw the crash there as well. We've only seen it occur with one particular file.

The machines are both Intel Core i7 machines with 8GB of RAM and two different video cards, one running Windows 7 and the other running Vista; and the crashes cause the Adobe "let me report this crash to the mothership" dialog box, so I don't think it's video card driver related; I think it's just a bug in Flash Professional. We're running version 10.0.2 with no updates available to Flash Professional when choosing "Updates..." from menu.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash CS 5.5 Crash Has Deleted 4 Folders And 180 .as Files?

Mar 5, 2012

I was working on a large web site in Flash CS 5.5 on my hard drive Mac Pro V10.6.8, 6GB of memory. 176.78 GB of space left on the drive. I had set up the project in the Flash projects panel. I was opening files with"File open" and working on them. I have my fla files in a src folder and my classes in a com folder. This was the setup of my com folder.

I was working in Flash and it crashed, when it started up again. It didn't offer me a temp file and all the files in the com folder have been deleted except for the greensock folder. But even the greensock folder was missing files.

I went to the recent files when I click a file name I got this error. I have searched my hard drive by name for the files and can't find them. They are not in the Trash. I have talked to three different Adobe tech support people in India they all tell me the files can't be recovered and they don't know why it has happened and don't even seem to care that their program has deleted hours of work. I am waiting on yet another tech support person to call me back. Does anyone know why this has happened? I have been working in Flash for 11 years and never had it delete 186 files when it has crashed.

Flex :: Flash Player 10.1 Crash On Shared Object Access

Jun 14, 2010

since updating my Flash Player plugin from 10 to 10.1, I'm seeing a weird crash when accessing shared objects. Flex Builder's debugger pops up and prints a stack trace like this:

undefined
at flash.net::SharedObject$/getLocal()
at my.code::MyClass$/load()[/my/path/to/my/MyClass.as:27]
(...)

This happens when calling SharedObject.getLocal("someString") for the second time for the same string, though it doesn't always crash. When using another browser on the same machine (not configured as the preferred debugging browser in Flex Builder), Flash Player remains silent. The code is wrapped in a try/catch(Error) block which does not catch this error. I'm using Flex SDK 3.5 and Flex Builder 3 on Mac OS X 10.6.3.

Professional :: Flash Player 10.2.159.1 Standalone Application CRASH With High Graphical Processing

Apr 16, 2011

Flash Player  10.2.153.1and  Flash Player  10.2.159.1 are crashing my standalone application. Later with  version 10.1 the application run ok, never crashes but was taking more than  90% CPU. The  new Flash Player solve the problem of resources, and drop down CPU to  30%, but  the application crashes always after a while, unespectly, or if I open the window of other application.

In  the other hand when I disable the harware acceleration at the swf  settings, the application goes crazy and start to make rapid flashes, and frame rate goes down to 8. [URL]. Right click on the Flash logo, Settings,then UNcheck the hardware acceleration in Display Settings.)

I'm  on a Mac Mini Core 2 Duo with Mac OS X 10.6.7 (the last Snow Leopard  these days). The graphical card is Nvidia GeForce 9400M.

I  did test the application at a Mac Book Pro core i5, Mac OS X 10.6.7,   graphica card Nvidia GeForce GT 330M and the application is more  stable but finally crashes too.

Finally if I export my application  with GPU Hardware acceleration at Publish Settings, my application  crashes almost inmediatly after I open it in each of the computers.

My guess is that the new Flash Version is using my graphical proccesor in a corrupted way.

The whole thing works fine as long as I don't change the default filename. If I do, then I loose the extension of the file... which is annoying >_< I haven't found any "acceptable" workaround, but the posts I've seen are from a couple of months already. So I'm inquiring hoping that something's been done regarding this issue since then =)

Actionscript 3 - Flash Crash (ends Up In A Restart Loop) When Loading An External Swf?

Jun 30, 2010

Im working with FlashDevelop and have two main projects, all pure AS3 projects.When trying to load my second project from my main project I get all kinds of errors.The Main class of the main project extends Sprite and the Main class in the "to-be-imported" project extends MovieClip. Looking at the loading of the swf in the debug window in FD it all seems fine:

[SWF] 'pathToSwf'secondProject.swf - 410 626 bytes after decompression.

If i try to assign the loaded swf to a newly created MovieClip I get a coercion failiure:

swfContent = loader.content; // =>

Type Coercion failed: cannot convert Main@46c0201 to flash.display.MovieClip.

So, typecasting the loaded content like so:

swfContent = loader.content as MovieClip;

removes that error but then I fall into the next pit as I try to call addChild:

Error #2007: Parameter child must be non-null.

Trying to get around the issue I tried to add the loader directly into the container where I want to show the external swf. This is when the real interesting problems begin:

targetContainer.addChild(loader);

My main application now hang, restarting in a never ending loop. How can my external swf be loaded but then again be null.It works perfectly fine when I run the external swf by itself...

Flash 10 :: CS4 Crashing With Large Transparent PNG Files

Dec 29, 2010

I'm working together with some designers to build a project in flash CS4. They normally send me their work as either jpg's or png files. When importing a sequence of png files I find that flash slows down considerably... but not only that, when I try to copy and paste a symbol that contains transparent png in their timeline it crashes. For instance if I select a frame which contains a movieclip with png's inside from the general timeline, and try to paste that frame on another layer I will get a message of Flash stopped working and eventually it just closes down. I tried this on a version of Flash CS5 and it also has the same problem but worse, as soon as you press Control + C the whole thing closes down. I'm suspecting this is caused by large transparent png files, but I'm not sure.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Retaining Order Of Files Loaded Externally From Large XML Files

The code looks basically like:[code]Basically, when I trace the 'this', the order of the files that are loaded is off. Out of about 10 tries, about 3 times the order is perfect. The remaining 7 times, the order is a bit off. Does anybody have a suggestion on how to ensure the files are loaded prior to the next file being loaded? I tried placing a while loop that basically delays the clock for a few milliseconds, and that didn't work either. Besides, that is not really a good solution to arbitrarily waste clock cycles.

Can I develop a Flash AS3 download swf that will let a user select a location on their hard drive to download files to and then start the download of multiple files (in the same way I can do with upload)? Or should I zip all the multiple files first and download zipped files to local disk. My users will want to download potentially hundreds of images from a server to local disk so I dont want them to have to click save for each one. Will AS3 let me pass an array of filenames and store the location that the user originally chooses? I ask because this sounds like it would have been not allowed for security reasons.
