ActionScript 3.0 :: Contextual Targeting - Content Changing Based On Parameters

I have a widget that is displaying an ATOM feed. The widget can be placed on any html page and the content can be changed by changing some parameters within the feed address. What I want to do however is make it so that the content changes based on the content that the page is on. So for example if the page the widget was on displayed content about cars, the widget would load feed content associated with cars. How to determine the context of an html page from within Flash?

1 - First of all, the contextual help is not working. When I click on a word, for example, textFormat, I get redirected to this page: http:[url].....on this page, i am asked to choose a platform. Any platform I choose, I am redirected to the same page.
2 - secondly, the ugly iFrame takes over almost 25% of my screen. Even Microsoft removed the iFrame from their MSDN. why use IFrame Adobe? they suck.what is going on there?

I have a movieclip that loads a scrollpane onto the stage. In that scroll pane I have some dynamic text boxes and some buttons. I cannot figure out how to reference those buttons or text boxes. For example, the instance name of the scroll pane is TAQ_Score then the content loaded into the scroll pane is TAQ_Score_Sheet. Then the instance name of the text box is TAQ_Score_Name.
So I assume the reference should be something like: TAQ_Score.TAQ_Score_Sheet.TAQ_Score_Name.text = MyVariable;This reference works fine outside of the scrollpane, but not when I put it into the scrollpane.

Follow up question on Filtering XML based on multiple params - Flex.I was trying to create the Query part dynamically so that params and the keys take over for building the criteria part. Just to show:

A comment here Filtering XML based on multiple params - Flex says that the expression inside the parentheses should not be a string. Agreed.So, is there any other approach to filter out multiple parameters in XML than to use the descendants(), which currently is not working out because we are building the search query dynamically, based on the params searched?

I want to create an static drawing (say any animals like giraffe) using some points, lines, drawing etc. Now i want to update the drawing by passing the parameters say height of his legs, its width or its color.The parameters are supplied from the web page. The image will be a 2D image.I am searching on which technology should i implement this for more than 10 hours but cannot find any perfect solution.Right now i am thinking i can use Adobe flash in which i can do some programming to create an drawing and change the drawing by passing the parameters to a Flash file, i think we can pass it when we embed an flv.

I am working on a project and I am trying to figure out how to resize the swf at runtime based on the content (which is brought in by xml) . What I am trying to do is similar to [url]... but unfortunately this is written in AS1 and doesnt help me much!I know I need to use the ExternalInterface but I am very new to AS3 and am not sure how to do this. I have searched and searched all over the internet and still can't figure it out.

I need to be able to animate a LineChart based on the SeriesInterpolate data effect (I will have an Array of dataproiders). I want to have a "Play" button that will:
initialize the LineChart with the first dataprovider in the array start the animation and wait for the animation to finish before loading the second data provider repeat the process until all data providers in the Array are loaded

I have to create dynamic content based on content uploaded to site and I need to know best tools for this.In a nutshell. User uploads images. Images embeded into existing video and animated. New video produced for download So far I have looked at Flash Media Server, Flex etc but not sure what the best tool is for the server side production of content. I know I can produce the custom MXML and AS files based on content uploaded and using the Flex SDK I can render these into a SWF. What I don't know is if There are limiatations to this in the context of what I want to achieve For instance can a product like Flash Media Server do something similar.Transcoding is also required hence the interest in FMS.

I'm writing a game with Flash CS5/AS 3.0 that tries to simulate depth of field by drawing all the relevant Movie Clips based on their Y position in ascending order, i.e. things lower on the stage overlap things higher on the stage. A MovieClip with a Y position of 10 would therefore need to have a lower index compared to a MovieClip with a Y position of 20, so the second one gets drawn on top of the first.
I wrote a quick and dirty function just to test this. During the trace, I've noticed that the truck's index hits 0 when I go near the top of the stage, but if I go too far up it will completely disappear from the stage. Trace then starts generating this error:
ArgumentError: Error #2025: The supplied DisplayObject must be a child of the caller.

I read through the random colour tutorial with interest, and wondered to myself if an objects colour could be altered in other ways... such as by a weather feed or stocks feed. I thought it would be interesting if the design of a site could be changed regularly by outside influences.

I was thinking that it will be an easy task but something is not right. Here is what I am trying to do. I want to be able to run a function if the mouse is moved over certain areas of the movie clip on stage. Based on which area of the movie clip the mouse is moved I'd like to be able to trigger different behaviour. Below is the code which I was thinking shoud do it:

For some reason, the trace statement is ran always when the mouse moves regardless if it is over the movie clip or not. It also only shows the first trace statement. It is never chaged even if the mouse is in the different areas of the movie clip.

In a nutshell, the swf contains four ads (which link to portions of the site) and each ad uses the Timer element, displaying it for 5 seconds before moving on to the next one. Everything has come together nicely (although I'd like to clean up the code and use classes at a later date - I'm currently taking AS training from Lynda.com).
What's giving me trouble right now is the navigation bar. What I want to do is create four numerical buttons that a) change color during a mouse roll over b) change color for a corresponding ad (for example, when the third ad displays, the number "3" changes from white to gray to show that it is active and goes back to white when the fourth ad comes up).
Right now, I'm at a loss as to what to do. I've tried making the numbers buttons, but I can't control color changes unless I create two sets of buttons: one with white numbers, one with gray numbers.This also makes for some really bizarre Actionscript coding ideas (ex: after I code the function for the gray nav buttons, I have to code functions that make the white buttons work - but this ends up screwing with the ad cycles). I tried making them as movie clips, but I lose the ability to assign a large hit area like I can with buttons.

I want to have a variable which changes from time to time based on certain parameters.
For Example:
var poop:Number;
onEnterFrame = function(){if(donkey==1){poop = 2;}
if(donkey==2){poop = 5;}
}
But it doesn't work. I can't seem to change the value of "poop" with code. It only accepts a value that I place, ex. var poop = 2, but that doesn't let me change it.

I'm trying to set up a form that presents a combobox when an ArrayCollection it's bound to has several items, and doesn't present one when it's empty or only has one item. I've tried doing this by creating this class, but unfortunately, the data provider I've bound to is never not empty at the time the setter executes.

Beginner question here to which I haven't found an answer to: I have an external XML document loading within flash and was wondering if it it's possible to change a frame/label from withing HTML rendered content using getURL?
This is probably not possible, but is there a suitable method for doing so when it comes to loading external content and controlling the timeline?

I have been working with this script for a few days now and have gotten to a near completed point, but I can't seem to script the final step. I have an xml file that is being parsed into my .fla file. There are 3 buttons which are dynamically created based on a tag called <navItem>. The function 'displayContent' should be displaying the appropriate chunk of xml in various text boxes, but instead, it only displays the last chunk (the 3rd chunk) no matter which button I click on. I need to develop a site with a navigation SWF file that changes the content of an HTML page, WITHOUT reloading itself and thus losing its current state. What I think I need to do to have smooth transitions, is keep the same swf file loaded, while having it change the page content below it.
I have some complex html content to include in the pages that is not supported by the tags available in Flash's dynamic text boxes. I have considered the idea of iframes, but I don't know how to load iframes using flash, or how to use them without refreshing the page.

my website has a flash menu that is a little bit annoying to see reloading everytime people hit a button. So i would like to set the buttons action to send a javascript variable or something like that. This way the html content, above the flash could change with a javascript include which would use this variable to know what page should be included... something like that. I don't know how to do this (flash to javascript and the use the variable to include a page content)

I worked through Kirupa's "Simple Custom Scrollbar" tutorial and successfully adjusted it to fit some of my content. Then I put it in a movieclip. I was hoping I could just go into each new instance of that movie clip, put in new content and be good to go. Unfortunately, when I edit the content inside my movie clip it edits the content of all the scrollbars in my timeline.
I tried renaming the instance "contentMain" to "contentMain2" in a second movie clip, that I also gave a unique instance name to, and adjusting the actions to match, but that still ended up renaming it in the other the scrollbars in my timeline as well as adjusting it in the actions of all the scrollbars.
