IDE :: Changing Hues Of A Tulip Graphic - Timeline Based
Mar 19, 2009
I am thinking about using a single tulip bitmap, but want to convey that the event being publicized has tulips of every hue. I want the tulip to change colors without user intervention.
I'm trying to get the time from the server (php) and then display a different flash movie (via either a different swf or frame on timeline) accordingly.
Unfortunately I haven't found anything that relates to this using as3.
(without using a button)I have a square MC with a dummy graphic. I want that MC to display (based on conditions, so with AS3) a different graphic. Something like myMC.picture=otherMc.picture
I am currently working on a flash project which is a online business card designer. Basically there are very basic things that users can do in it. Such as add text, draw simple shapes and add preloaded vector art into the canvas area. At the moment all that works well, apart from making them scale. Can anyone guide me to a good learning resource or may be enlighten me on how do I do this properly? What I'm looking for is when the user clicks on an already added object in the canvas a bounding box should appear around it with handles to scale that object.
If I have a designer make the necessary graphics, what do I need to learn to make a flash based game?
I already understand the backend server work that would need to talk to the 'front end' part of the game i.e. how the flash game will make requests to the backend servers for storing/retrieving data in xml/json etc.
I have a graphic sitting on my stage that I want to convert to a movieclip so I can change it's alpha with as3. If I change it from a graphic to a movieclip my swf stops working. I have a bunch of code which constructs a dynamic menu and it stops working when the graphic is changed to a movieclip. They aren't related in any way so why would this happen? As a graphic it doesn't have an intance name and nothing is happening to it. It's not animated or anything. It's just sitting on the stage.
I have a scrollbar that I grabbed off a resources site. (code below)I want it so that whenever I put the cursor on the scollbar to move it that the graphical information under the scrollbar comes on (either reveal or opacity to 100%). At the moment the little thumbnails under the scrollbar are on all the time and area bit of a distraction (they are meant to assist in the use of the scrollbar by minimising searching behaviour).[code]
I have a movieclip with the instance name 'core'. Core contains 500 frames, and from the root timeline I want to be able to click on a movieclip I have with the instance 'scroller' and have it scrub through the 500 frames, forwards or backwards within a confined area.
I'm not a real actionscipt person as I usually only code simple buttons and the like. I have a scrollbar that I grabbed off a resources site. (code below) I want it so that whenever I put the cursor on the scollbar to move it that the graphical information under the scrollbar comes on (either reveal or opacity to 100%). At the moment the little thumbnails under the scrollbar are on all the time and area bit of a distraction (they are meant to assist in the use of the scrollbar by minimising searching behaviour).
I am making a very simple stick figure animation which will be intended for tv, specifically HDTV 1080p.I have no idea how i did it but I did the animation and before I knew it it was not on scene 1, but on the graphic symbol timeline. I think it is because I made my character a symbol, and i guess everything followed. But when I put them on the stage from the library, only part of the animation shows up, the part with the character i made into a symbol...not only that, but if I copy and paste all the frames from the symbol timeline onto the main timeline, it is HUGE! it doesn't match the size or placement it was on in the other timeline..Also, are there any specific requirements for editing with intent for hdtv? I read you can't use movie clips but as for size, etc? What do you have to set at the beginning and what will change when it is exported or converted for tv?
I need to be able to animate a LineChart based on the SeriesInterpolate data effect (I will have an Array of dataproiders). I want to have a "Play" button that will:
initialize the LineChart with the first dataprovider in the array start the animation and wait for the animation to finish before loading the second data provider repeat the process until all data providers in the Array are loaded
I have a widget that is displaying an ATOM feed. The widget can be placed on any html page and the content can be changed by changing some parameters within the feed address. What I want to do however is make it so that the content changes based on the content that the page is on. So for example if the page the widget was on displayed content about cars, the widget would load feed content associated with cars. How to determine the context of an html page from within Flash?
I'm writing a game with Flash CS5/AS 3.0 that tries to simulate depth of field by drawing all the relevant Movie Clips based on their Y position in ascending order, i.e. things lower on the stage overlap things higher on the stage. A MovieClip with a Y position of 10 would therefore need to have a lower index compared to a MovieClip with a Y position of 20, so the second one gets drawn on top of the first.
I wrote a quick and dirty function just to test this. During the trace, I've noticed that the truck's index hits 0 when I go near the top of the stage, but if I go too far up it will completely disappear from the stage. Trace then starts generating this error:
ArgumentError: Error #2025: The supplied DisplayObject must be a child of the caller. at flash.display::DisplayObjectContainer/getChildIndex() at EICT::Game/ReorganizeDisplayIndexes()
I read through the random colour tutorial with interest, and wondered to myself if an objects colour could be altered in other ways... such as by a weather feed or stocks feed. I thought it would be interesting if the design of a site could be changed regularly by outside influences.
I was thinking that it will be an easy task but something is not right. Here is what I am trying to do. I want to be able to run a function if the mouse is moved over certain areas of the movie clip on stage. Based on which area of the movie clip the mouse is moved I'd like to be able to trigger different behaviour. Below is the code which I was thinking shoud do it:
Code: var posY:Number; var mouseListener:Object = new Object(); mouseListener.onMouseMove = function() {
[Code].....
For some reason, the trace statement is ran always when the mouse moves regardless if it is over the movie clip or not. It also only shows the first trace statement. It is never chaged even if the mouse is in the different areas of the movie clip.
In a nutshell, the swf contains four ads (which link to portions of the site) and each ad uses the Timer element, displaying it for 5 seconds before moving on to the next one. Everything has come together nicely (although I'd like to clean up the code and use classes at a later date - I'm currently taking AS training from Lynda.com).
What's giving me trouble right now is the navigation bar. What I want to do is create four numerical buttons that a) change color during a mouse roll over b) change color for a corresponding ad (for example, when the third ad displays, the number "3" changes from white to gray to show that it is active and goes back to white when the fourth ad comes up).
Right now, I'm at a loss as to what to do. I've tried making the numbers buttons, but I can't control color changes unless I create two sets of buttons: one with white numbers, one with gray numbers.This also makes for some really bizarre Actionscript coding ideas (ex: after I code the function for the gray nav buttons, I have to code functions that make the white buttons work - but this ends up screwing with the ad cycles). I tried making them as movie clips, but I lose the ability to assign a large hit area like I can with buttons.

a countdown that is based on the timeline.For instance, there is a timeline of 30 frames. verytime the 30 frames is up I want to subtract 1 from the countdown.The trouble is I have no idea how to do this
I'm trying to set up a form that presents a combobox when an ArrayCollection it's bound to has several items, and doesn't present one when it's empty or only has one item. I've tried doing this by creating this class, but unfortunately, the data provider I've bound to is never not empty at the time the setter executes.
public class ComboboxOrFail extends ComboBox { public function ComboboxOrFail() {
I have a main swf which has as3 code on the timeline. I have created a new small swf (a picture gallery) using external .as files (OOP) that works well on its own. I want to load the small swf (through a button on an array) into the main swf. When I click on my button in the main swf, it does not load the small swf (or I think, it cannot read the classes formed through OOP). I get the following error message:TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at classes::Script()TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
I have a navigation bar, it has 4 buttons on it, home, about, photos, and contact. There is a movie corresponding to each button that will load a 100 frame animation. Home: home_MC, About: about_MC, etc. When the page loads, home_MC will be on the stage. I would like for the first 80 frames of home_MC to play, and then stop and wait until someone clicks one of the navigation buttons (home, about, etc..) and then continue playing. How to make a timeline based eventlistener, that when the event occurs will make the timeline (that is stopped) continue?
I'm trying to make a faux 3D rotation animation where if the user mouses to the right the object rotates right and if the user mouses to the left the object rotates left. Depending on how far they move the mouse the rotation should speed up or slow down.I spent a lot of time making an object in 3d studio max and importing the animation of rotation as JPEGs onto the timeline. I figured the most efficient way to go about this would be to make the mouse control the timeline instead of the object itself.
I have a thumbs_mc with thumbnail images. Within thumbs_mc, I have a transparent overlay_mc that functions as a button. Mouse over the overlay_mc and the alpha chages so there is a tint over that particular thumbnailWhen overlay_mc is clicked, the main timeline goes to a particular frame label.What I need to do is have the position of the playhead on the main timeline also determine the alpha of the overlay_mc so the viewer knows which thumbnail is playing.
How would you go about creating a timeline animation for an iPhone or iPad application? I'm looking for something like a timeline animation in Flash. I don't need a technical explanation on how to program it, though.So here are some general questions:
- I read something about UIView for PNG sequences, but aren't these kind of animations resource intensive? And what about filesize? PNG can't be compressed like jpeg.
- What about vector-like animations? These would save a lot of kb's.
- Are there animation frameworks like TweenLite/TweenMax/Tweener/... (some well known frameworks for animations in ActionScript)?
Try to wrap my head around why sometimes a timeline base animation will run choppy in some browsers. Is it processor speed vs frame rate. I boosted my framerate to 29.97 but on older computers the animation is very arthritic.
I have an animation that loops and has different images come up with certain elements on the screen that remain the same throughout the movie. Depending on the image that is being displayed, the url of the link assigned to one of the constant elements changes with the code that I posted below.
The problem occurs when the movie loops because the URL of the constant is supposed to go back to the first link (just like everything else loops and starts at the beginning) but it remains as the last url that was declared.
Here are the three blocks of code I am using for the links, truth is the instance name of the button. These code snippets are arranged in their own "actions" layer on my timeline
First URL truth.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onMouseClick); function onMouseClick(e:MouseEvent):void { var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest("http:../pages/calculate.html");
I have 3 text fields that display weather conditions from the Weather.com XML web service. The 3 text fields need to be visible only during a certain segment of the Flash Video that is set as the application's background. Do I use AS3 to specify visiblity? If so, how do I reference a certain range of frames in which the fields should be visible?
