I want to make it a bit more dynamic and use the id:String to evaluate which new instance to create.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Any Way To Get TextField Recognized Without Instance Name

Jun 14, 2009

I'm trying to have action script recognize a text field without me having to give it an instance name. All is fine at first because i wrote custom errors to show if Flash doesnt find a text field on the stage, and no errors come up. I know that my errors work because when I remove the text field from the stage all the errors appear. The problem arises when I try to manipulate the text field through AS that I right on the main timeline. When I do then I get that old 1119 undefined property error.

Here's my code.
package com.nate.ui {
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.events.Event;
import flash.net.*;
import flash.text.TextField;
public class TextArea extends Sprite {
[Code] .....
And here is just my trace (on the timeline) that throws up the 1119 error.
trace(ta.textField);

textfield1.text = "testing text";
textfield1.x = 300;
textfield1.y = 300;
textfield1.height = 150;
textfield1.width = 150;
textfield1.autoSize = TextFieldAutoSize.LEFT;

As far as I can tell the object is created and IS there but I have to call it somehow I guess.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Control/unload Swf Inside Html Textfield?

Jul 27, 2011

In a CS3/As3 project I have xml files with html content loaded in a texfiled inside a mc. In some cases I have swf files embedded with img tag in the xml. The problem is that when a swf is loaded this way It keeps 'living', playing with sounds in the background when other xml files and swf are loaded in the texfiled. Then, every time it is loaded, a new instance of the swf is created and played.I have found out you can refer to the loader object with getImageReference method giving an id to img tag and, for example, adding an Event.COMPLETE listener to the loader. But I don't know how to access to the loaded swf to unload it or at least stop it (mc_name.texfiled_name.swf_id doesn't seem to work in AS3)Does anybody know if it is possible?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Control(Play/Pause) The Flv Playback Instance(s) With My Existing Icons?

Feb 3, 2011

I'm making a demo project for myself to learn. The project is somewhat similar to "The Story of Stuff" website.But I making this demo and going step by step. I have a small working project but the video clips are embedded and now I'm launching them externally using the flv playback component.I have only made the very first video clip external that is loaded in using the component. The rest of the clips are embedded.

As you can see I made this so when the picture icons appear and when you click on one the video pauses and when you click the close button on the small window that pops up the video resumes.(un-pause)

Basic time line controls. (Linear)

But of course this does not work when I load the clip externally using the flv playback component.My question is , how can I control (Play/Pause) the flv playback instance(s) with my existing icons?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Global Timer Control - Remove Instance Refs From Array?

Sep 15, 2008

I'm writing a video game and I have used timers all over the place to make everything go. Now I want to be able to pause the game, completely. Meaning, I need to stop and start all timer instances at once, or globally. So I created a Timer subclass called CustomTimer, put some statics in there, came up with the attached code. Now my problem is that I'm pretty sure I've created a memory leak, in that the instances array will just grow and wont allow or gc. So, my question is, is there an "onDestroy()" method or somesuch, that I can override, and use that moment to remove instance refs from the instances array? Or, is there a smarter way to do this? an application object with a pause method perhaps?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Error Importing TextField Instance From Library To Stage?

Dec 1, 2010

I'm making a project that is based almost entirely on code and I'm using classes. And everything was working fine until I came to a situation where I needed to make text field inside flash and not with code. I made a text field put some text inside, converted to a MovieClip, set the "export for actionscript" linkage in the library and deleted the movieClip from the stage.

Then went to my document class and wrote this code:

ActionScript Code:
var txt:text1 = new text1();
addChild(txt);
txt.x = 20;
txt.y = 20;

And I get this error: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.

Weird. I don't understand this problem. I then put this as3 code into the first frame and disabled the document class. And the text appeared normally on the stage.

What is even more weird. I get the same error even if I delete this code. In other words, I get this error just by having this text object inside my library.

So what do I do wrong? Why can't I use this command in my class? And what is happening this just by having this object inside my library?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Text Input Control On Top Of Native TextField Class

May 18, 2010

I am creating a text input control on top of the native TextField class. I am trying to make the input text field itself behave in such a way that hitting Enter when focused and typing, instead of adding a line feed, produces a kind of "submit" event from my control, clearing the "submitted" text input. The described above works quite well. My problem is that I currently rob the users of my control the simple line-feeding ability - instead of a line-feed, a "submit" event is dispatched.

Obviously my control is designed for sending text rapidly, but it is also multiline so I want people to also be able to insert newlines. Think of this as a chat text input control. What I thought about is, somehow capture Shift+Enter and make it behave as Enter usually does. This has proven to be absolutely impossible, and I know a thing or two about Flash Player.

Part of the problem is, Shift+Enter by default does not itself produce a newline (even though pretty much everything else that types in any OS, does) and I cannot patch the event - f.e. by setting 'shiftKey' property to false at capture phase so that the event moves on as if Enter was pressed instead. How to do this, sort of replicating a TextField entirely down to a caret and all?

Flex :: TextField Instance Inside A Button Created In A Separate Layer In Flash Is Null

Mar 25, 2010

I've created an button object in flash. The button contains 2 layers. One is the background image and on top of it is a textField. The textfield is dynamic. I use the button inside a movieclip and I export it in a SWC. The I'm trying to use it in flex.

I'm trying to do this:

var myComponent:MyComponent = new MyComponent();
myComponent.button01.theTextField.text = "Caption";

I get and instance of the button(myComponent.button01 is not null in Flex debugger), but the instance of the textField(myComponent.button01.theTextField) is null and I'm not able to change the text(but the default text appears onscreen). The code is compiled correctly in flex.

I exported the in swc the button control as well. So the button is not the default SimpleButton from Flash, but an derived class generated by flash(with the same name as the symbol defined in flash). It contains theTextField memeber, which is null.

Here is the button timeline(Layer 2 contains the textfield, and the textfield instance is named theTextField):
