Dec 6, 2010I'm building videochat functionality for a site, using Wowza as the streaming server. I've noticed that when I use the chat on a page hosted on another machine (EC2 in this case) it pixelates, but when I just view a local html file referencing a local copy of the player, there's no problem. I'm not sure why, because even the local copy of the player is sending an outgoing video stream and reading another stream from the streaming server. The only differences between the perfect quality/annoyingly pixelated versions are:
The actual page is hosted locally/nonlocally The .swf file is hosted locally/nonlocally. Does anyone know if downloading the flash player degrades the streams that play in it? And if so, is there any way to get around this?

Feb 26, 2011I have a video player on my site that once paused I would like to prevent rest of the video being downloaded. I am using MediaElement.js for html5 video with flash fallback. It is annoying that I am unable to stop the video from downloading as it is a waste of bandwidth and the "progress" event continues to fire and update the UI.

Mar 10, 2009I am creating a video player that sets up a preview image before it begins to play. If I set the preview image in a loader within a container it works, except if I change the size of the preview.jpeg that is being loaded into it. It loads the image into the loader, within the container, but then scales the container making the image smaller than I need. I want it so that the preview.jpeg can be made by anyone at any size and the image be scaled to sit over the video. Unless the vidWidth and vidHeight are equal to the preview.jpg the image doesnt show up, just blank ??

returns: ArgumentError: Error #2025: The supplied DisplayObject must be a child of the caller.
This only happens when I try to set the index of the preview_Loader? I need it to be the second mc from the bottom. I set up 2 functions to load the image. The first doesn't allow smaller images to be loaded into the container and make them the correct size. While the second makes them dissapear if I change the size.

Feb 1, 2010We're building a web-based application that requires heavy image processing. We'd like this processing load to be on the client as much as possible and we'd like to support as much platforms (even mobiles) as much as possible. Here's the info: Image processing is rasterization from some data. Think like creating a PNG image from a PDF file. We don't have a lot of server power. So client-side processing is a bit of a must.
So, we're considering: Flash - most widespread, but from what i read has lackluster development tools. (and no iPhone/iPad support for now). Silverlight - allows us to use .NET CLR, so a big ++ (a lot of code is in .NET). But is not supported for most mobiles ( rumored android support in the future) HTML5 + Javascript - probably the most "portable" option. The problem is having to rewrite all that image processing code in Javascript.
Clarification: I don't need further ideas on what libraries are available for Silverlight and Javascript. My dilemma is choosing Silverlight means no support for most mobiles choosing Flash means we have to redevelop most of our code AND no iPhone/iPad support HTML5 + Javascript we have to redevelop most of our code and not fully supported yet in all browsers choosing two (Silverlight + Flash) will be too costly Any out-of-the-box or bright ideas / alternatives

I would like to create a custom flash player for my website to display and control this movie.The player needs the following properties:
1. Play the movie transparently (using "wmode"?)
2. Play, pause, volume and exit buttons on the control bar
3. Autohide control bar
4. Logo / text on the control bar
5. Ability to unload itself after the movie ends

Flash - Creating Persistent MP3 Player Using SharedObject
Oct 8, 2010I'm trying to create a persistent MP3 player using SharedObject. Initially I tried using frames and while it worked, frames suck so I continued looking into it. I came to find out about Flash's SharedObject. It seems easy enough but I can't nail down the logic correctly. I've attached a sample .fla for anyone interested to look at. I need the song progress to be stored and retrieved when necessary to keep the same song playing whenever links are clicked within the HTML page.

Apr 3, 2011We are building a flash based product where we need to create icons for various modules. we are having challenges in look and feel of the icons- what looks really good on Adobe Illustrator/ Photoshop looks jagged on flashPlayer. A challenge we have is that the overall screen aspect ratio and hence aspect for the icons which are relatively sized can change
we were told in discussions with some adobe folks that
a) we need to build icons which are square, and in multiples of 32 pixels.
b) use a png format
As per them, this way the pixelation is reduced and diagonal lines won't appear jagged- we still have an issue on rendering in flash player
