if the mouse is under the button (outside the mask) the button still activatesis there a way I can create a shape &/or script to "mask" the EventListener much like how the graphic is masked?(the space under the buttons will eventually contain random photos)
currently the menu uses this script:addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,upyoga);
stop();
var speed:Number=.3;
I'm trying to create an xml accordion menu that has main menus and a sub menus buttons (movieClips) revealed with a mask. Simple question, How do I stop the mask area which reveals the sub menus catching mouseEvents on the submenus?The main menu button is a movieClip, it has the mask sprite attached to it as a property so it can scale dynamically to reveal the subMenus. They are set as children of the main menu button container. In my code I've set mainMenu.mouseChildern = true. But when the mainMenu is clicked I change mouseEnabeled = false to help prevent the main menu receiving events. This helps on rollOver rollOut events, but when I click or mouseDown on the subMenu the mask catches the event also and activates the main menu again. I've tried the obvious mask.mouseEnabled = false; mask.mouseChildern = false; mask.hitArea = null; and even setting mask.alpha = 0 but this has no effect at all.
I don't understand why the mask has to extend the hitArea property of the mainMenu and why this can't be set to null. It also seems crazy that when mouseChildren = true the parent clip also has to receive notice of the event.
When i insert the flash menu it basically dosent fit into the alloted space i gave for my horizontal navigation bar, when inserted it blows apart. the only thing i could think of was resizing the flash document but then i cant see the menu expand it gets cut off,
a friend of mine wants me to change up his flash website template a bit. He has a horizontal navigation bar at the top with links but he wants me to change them into drop down menus so he can have additional links, I have the original fla files and everything too.

Flash Files/homenavmenucs4.rar(put http: before the link)I'm trying to find the correct place to put my drop down menus inside of. within what symbol do i need to create the menus?
I made a drop down menu with sub menus. It is a movie clip. When I drag my movie clip menu to the main timeline I don't know how to make the buttons manipulate the main timeline. Like going to a certain frame. Everytime I put code on the movie clip, it manipulates the movie clip itself. Is there a trick to this?
I followed a tutorial at lynda.com about a popup menu in flash mx.The submenus were surrounded by invisible buttons so that when you rolled over them (i.e. outside of the drop down menus) the sub menus became hidden.The last bit on the tutorial said..... if you have multiple menus this would be slightly different and involves using "with".
It ended there, and that's precisely what I need.. I'd like to make 5 or 6 drop down menus closely spaced and horizontally placed across my movie.. anyone have an .fla with this? or perhaps a tutorial? I've searched everywhere...
I have designed a horizontal scrolling menu that currently contains buttons that load external swfs when pressed. Works great.What I'd like to do is have the buttons open vertical drop down menus instead of loading external files.
I am making a website purely on flash (actionscript 2.0), for a school project, and I have set up one frame for each page. I also made a drop down menu, but unfortuantely I can't link them to the actual pages, since the drop down menu is a movie clip, if I use an actionscript such as:[code]it goes to the 3rd frame in the movie clip and not the main scene.
I have a code that duplicates a movie clip that then falls across a picture. They are sort of like water drops on a window but I want the picture to only be seen through the water drops. My problem is I can't get more than one drop to mask the picture at a time. I have tried code in the duplicated MC and I have tried pasting a bunch of instances to the stage and creating a mask later. Please help me out. The following is the code of the duplicated movie clip where _root.drop is the falling mask and _root.bg is the picture I want to see through the drops.[code]
i've created a sprite to drag and drop around the stage. the sprite is masked and has it's mask as it's child so that it too will drag along with the sprite. everything works fine until i add a drop shadow filter to the sprite. when the drop shadow is added, i can only mousedown to drag and mouseup to drop the sprite if the mouse events occur within the original location of the sprite when it was added to the stage.
var thumbMask:Sprite = new Sprite(); thumbMask.graphics.beginFill(0, 1); thumbMask.graphics.drawRoundRect(0, 0, 100, 75, 25, 25);
I have a startDrag function set up on a loader and mask that when the mouse is down on the loader it drags, when not it doesn't. There is also 2 buttons that control whether mask1 or mask2 is used. What i would like however is when the mouse is down - the area of the loader outside of the mask is visible but only by about 10/20% alpha, that way the user can see where all the image is while dragging. Is this possible? Full code can be seen below and i have attached the zip with the .fla file:
what i am doing is to make something along the lines of the "scriptable mask" tutorial Inigo was kind enough to put up.My idea is to have a large mask behind the whole of my flash site, this masks a colour image with a black & white one (nothing tricky). The image I am using is actually 5 separate images combined, and each is a pic of certain parts of the site.I also have a very basic set of buttons along the bottom... each corresponding to each section.
All I want is to set it up so that when I mouse over the buttons, the _x of the mask moves to correspond with the correct image... really very basic... or so I thought .If anything it should be easier to do than what is in Inigo's tut (where he uses the _x of the mouse to move the mask)... i just cant seem to get it to work with a nice easing effect (its easy to get the mask to simply snap to each coordinate, but I need it to smoothly move).
maybe point me towards a better way to mask. png file is way too big. I have been using the mask layer option to create my own mask around a jpg image by drawing around it on the mask layer. There has to be a fetter and faster way to do this. Is it possible to maybe have a specific color range have an alpha value of 0. Similar to green screening whereas If I put the item I want to clip on a green background flash will auto take out the green for me. and by auto I mean action script maybe. I think this can be done but im not finding it.
how are these guys clipping these images [URL] they have the movie clips set up where the black background on the 3 layers of shoes is getting masked out. When I go into the shoe movie clips I see there is a black background but it just disappears when I go back to main timeline.
ive gotten one movie clip to mask another in the actions frame but i cant seem to be able to mask the flames which are a shape with a movieclip in this as file. im not getting any errors but the mask isnt covering anything look near the bottom at s.mask=mask_mc; there are about 20 "s" shapes spawning per second if that has anything to do with it
Code: //this package turns an mc into a flaming button that calls a javascript function package { import flash.display.MovieClip;
My question is in relation to AS3 dropdowns. You can check the page at: http:[url].....Under the "Visitors" and "Media" links, there are mouseover dropdown menus. You'll notice that they stick a little bit, and to make them go back up, you really have to hit very specific hit areas. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
I have a swf file that my graphics designer has created for me that is placed on my intro page of my asp.net mvc website. The problem is that when the site is viewed with Internet Explorer (works as it should in firefox) the flash image sits over the top of my dropdown sub menu's (menu's at top of page that when user hovers mouse over they expand a sub menu).
1) I have a set of menus (movieclips) with 2 states: active and inactive (frame labels). I want to be able to inactivate all the menus but the one clicked. Let's say I have 3 menus and that are called m1,m2,m3.
2) The syntax for m1 would be something like this: (all inactivated and then the one clicked is activated)
I know just doing this down here it works but I want to automate it...what if we had 30 buttons? The problem i menu.gotoAndStop ("inactive"). Menu gets the proper content in the loop..that is.. _parent.m1 , _parent.m2, _parent.m3. / _parent.m1.gotoAndStop("active"); //_parent.m2.gotoAndStop("inactive"); //_parent.m3.gotoAndStop("inactive"); }
I'd like to add an extra set of buttons that extend from the submenus, so basically a sub-sub, or second sub if you will. How can I do this from the FLA I have. I've attached the files (FLA MX/XML) if you fancy a go, and I've already done the XML file to include a "secondsubmenu" entry...
