I have 3 menus, each with 4 different options (clickable buttons). Depending on what you selected in each of the three menus you get a specific resulting image.
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to create an xml accordion menu that has main menus and a sub menus buttons (movieClips) revealed with a mask. Simple question, How do I stop the mask area which reveals the sub menus catching mouseEvents on the submenus?The main menu button is a movieClip, it has the mask sprite attached to it as a property so it can scale dynamically to reveal the subMenus. They are set as children of the main menu button container. In my code I've set mainMenu.mouseChildern = true. But when the mainMenu is clicked I change mouseEnabeled = false to help prevent the main menu receiving events. This helps on rollOver rollOut events, but when I click or mouseDown on the subMenu the mask catches the event also and activates the main menu again. I've tried the obvious mask.mouseEnabled = false; mask.mouseChildern = false; mask.hitArea = null; and even setting mask.alpha = 0 but this has no effect at all.
I don't understand why the mask has to extend the hitArea property of the mainMenu and why this can't be set to null. It also seems crazy that when mouseChildren = true the parent clip also has to receive notice of the event.
I followed a tutorial at lynda.com about a popup menu in flash mx.The submenus were surrounded by invisible buttons so that when you rolled over them (i.e. outside of the drop down menus) the sub menus became hidden.The last bit on the tutorial said..... if you have multiple menus this would be slightly different and involves using "with".
It ended there, and that's precisely what I need.. I'd like to make 5 or 6 drop down menus closely spaced and horizontally placed across my movie.. anyone have an .fla with this? or perhaps a tutorial? I've searched everywhere...
i use loadmovie() to load youtube videos inside my flash website but when i load another video the old one doesn't stop, so i tried unloadmovie to destroy it but it seems that i did a mistake in my code
This is how the code looks to stop the old one an load the new:
vloader.unloadMovie();
vloader.loadMovie("http://www.youtube.com/v/Alw5hs0chj0&hl=fr&fs=1hJ-mPcGtC");
How to do that? use other objects or classes, i only want to edit that code.
Note: I have an empty MOVIE CLIP called "vloader" where i load the video player.
how to make floating menus or could give me a tutorial

I want the menu items to spring upwards above the menu rather than downwards below it!
[URL]..The first menu on the page is a good example of what I'm asking about.One major addition to this style/functionality... each link needs to be added via XML (for flash vars) and it needs a scroll bar for when the amount of links exceed the height of the content container or movie clip.So it needs the style elements as you see in the link and a scrollbar for dynamic content.
I'm posting this question because I've been searching for weeks and although I've found a plethora of examples of AS3 scrollbars, none - not one, has come close to something like this. I'm just curious how someone with real AS3 knowledge would go about the situation as I'm sure this is not as difficult as it's proving. Or maybe it is. I don't know.
I'm having problems with the buttons on this. As you can see the buttons won't make the menus slide the other way, almost like they're not recognisable. If you look, even the traces aren't showing up for them. Here is the .sfw and the .fla in case you want to have look: port2_Bio.swf [ 6.43 KB | Viewed 148 times ]
View 2 RepliesI'm aware there are tutorials online that cover how to make game menus and preloaders for AS3 flash games, but I've found that books are more in-depth for certain topics. Are there books with sections that cover the process of making a preloader and menus for an AS3 flash game?My ultimate goal is to implement a preloader AND game menus without referring to the timeline.

View 1 RepliesI preface this with the disclaimer that I'm new to flash and actionscript and I've read the tutorials on this site and others regarding depths, levels, this, and loadmovie. I have a problem with scope I believe in some AS while using the loadmovie() function. I am loading multiple instances (5) of the the same .swf on _level0 of my main movieclip using createEmptyMovieClip and LoadMovie. When I play the main MC the loaded swfs complete thier initial animation but do not respond to onrollover events. Here's the AS for the main MC:

I'm loading multiple instances of the same jpg dynamically to my swf. It works just fine locally, but when I upload it, it only executes the first loading code it encounters in the timeline. I was doing things fairly complexly with 'for' loops and dynamic name generation and stuff, but I've stripped it down to the basics in an effort to get this to work.
Here's some code:
loadMovie('1.jpg', mc1.empty_mc);
loadMovie('1.jpg', mc2.empty_mc);
mcLoader.loadClip('1.jpg', mc3.empty_mc);
mcLoader.loadClip('1.jpg', mc4.empty_mc);
mcLoader.loadClip('1.jpg', mc5.empty_mc);
as you can see, I'm using two different methods of loading the jpgs, just in an effort to pin down exactly what is going on. Locally, they all load fine. When I upload to the server, only the first instance of the loading code is run (so mc1 will get its jpg, but the rest won't). I've tried to swap the order, place the loading code in different areas, try to load different jpgs into each empty mc, but nothing works except that first instance flash gets to in the timeline.
The swf and jpgs are all in the same folder, both locally and on the server. The server the swf is hosted on is Windows 2003 box if that matters. I tried uploading it to a different windows box and got the same problem.
I posted this earlier yet it seems to have gone somewhere????!!I have a main movie which a number of other swf will load into.These are the actions on each of my menu buttons:
on (release) {
_root.contents.loadMovie("cv.swf");
}
[code].....
How can I make the loadMovie keep looping after playing once?
loadMovie("leftback_a1.swf","videoHolder");
I want leftback_a1.swf to keep looping and playback after it finishes.
And how can I control the playback of the leftback_a1.swf? Meaning if I have a button to click to stop it and it will pause and a button to click to play and it will play from where it paused.
I have been working on a site of mine, and I wanted to make a 360 rotation view thing with some pictures (12 shots all from different angels around the same axis). I need to make a preloader load everything up front, so there wont be any legging.
My best guess was making a slide show kinda thing, with an rotation and zoom bar. And before the slide show, a frame that holds the preloader. But the preloader doesn't loads the right images. I load my images from an XML file, and then parse them into an array (something I got from here I believe). That parts seems to work all fine, but when I load the images using a "container.loadMovie(image[i]);" code, it isnt loading anything, except for an error :s
[Code]...
There are some loose ends (like the gotoAndPlay(3) things, but that is because I may wanted to add a thumbnail gallery in frame 3... )
I have a photographer's portfolio site in the works. I'm using loadMovie connected to thumbail buttons of each photo to show a larger version of the photo. Here is the script[code]...
Now the photographer would also like to have a next/previous arrow buttons so the user can click through like a slide show. Is there a way to have Flash know what movie is currently loaded and based on that information go to the next or previous?
I have a huge SWF. Instead of loading every frame and playing from the beginning with loadMovie(), is it possible to load only say frames 100 to 120? Also, if I have a pause button, how do I make loadMovie() stop loading to conserve network bandwidth?
View 4 RepliesHow can I make a preloader that shows percentage/bar for a movie loaded in with LoadMovie?I've tried using a normal preloader (the one from Kirupa) in the "to load" movie, but it doesn't work.Is there a way to have the preloader assess how big the movie to load is, how a bar etc. and have the movie hidden until 100% is loaded (as seen on the bar)?
View 2 RepliesI found this site. It has a lot of cool usefull stuff, plus you can put on your own stuff and sell it.
View 1 RepliesMy question is in relation to AS3 dropdowns. You can check the page at: http:[url].....Under the "Visitors" and "Media" links, there are mouseover dropdown menus. You'll notice that they stick a little bit, and to make them go back up, you really have to hit very specific hit areas. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
View 2 RepliesI have a swf file that my graphics designer has created for me that is placed on my intro page of my asp.net mvc website. The problem is that when the site is viewed with Internet Explorer (works as it should in firefox) the flash image sits over the top of my dropdown sub menu's (menu's at top of page that when user hovers mouse over they expand a sub menu).

1) I have a set of menus (movieclips) with 2 states: active and inactive (frame labels). I want to be able to inactivate all the menus but the one clicked. Let's say I have 3 menus and that are called m1,m2,m3.
2) The syntax for m1 would be something like this: (all inactivated and then the one clicked is activated)
on(release){
for(i=1; i<4; ++i){
menu="_parent.m"+i;[code]....
I know just doing this down here it works but I want to automate it...what if we had 30 buttons? The problem i menu.gotoAndStop ("inactive"). Menu gets the proper content in the loop..that is.. _parent.m1 , _parent.m2, _parent.m3.
/
_parent.m1.gotoAndStop("active");
//_parent.m2.gotoAndStop("inactive");
//_parent.m3.gotoAndStop("inactive");
}
a friend of mine wants me to change up his flash website template a bit. He has a horizontal navigation bar at the top with links but he wants me to change them into drop down menus so he can have additional links, I have the original fla files and everything too.
View 2 RepliesI'd like to add an extra set of buttons that extend from the submenus, so basically a sub-sub, or second sub if you will. How can I do this from the FLA I have. I've attached the files (FLA MX/XML) if you fancy a go, and I've already done the XML file to include a "secondsubmenu" entry...
View 1 Repliesif the mouse is under the button (outside the mask) the button still activatesis there a way I can create a shape &/or script to "mask" the EventListener much like how the graphic is masked?(the space under the buttons will eventually contain random photos)
currently the menu uses this script:addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,upyoga);
stop();
var speed:Number=.3;

View 1 RepliesI used the code fscommand("showmenu", "false");
its woking fine with fp9 as3
but problem with fp10 as3
I have figured out how to do most items I have needed to change in a template I purchased, but I'm stumped on this one. How do I change to hover over color of menu items? I can supply the fla and flv files if needed. I just don't know which item(s) I should be working on in the library to do what I want to do.
