View 21 RepliesI have two variables that I would like to store in a remote data file which can be accessed by my Flash file. It is for a voting system, so the first variable would be a counter that is incremented each time a user votes, and the second would be the total rating. The average rating would then be calculated from these.
How would one store, retrieve, and then update these variables from the data file?
I can create the system within a single Flash file for a single session, but obviously I'd like multiple users opening the file simultaneously to be able to access the data and update it.
Occasionally when I load a file I will get an I/O error (according to the Try/Catch error that I traced). Is there any way to have it so that when I'm opening or closing a file that it will keep trying to load the file until it loads it 100% error-free?
View 2 RepliesI'm trying out the FlasBuilder ide with ColdFusion 8 on OS X. When I try to create a new project, I get stuck at the server setup screen that forces you to validate your paths for your ColdFusion root folder and your webroot. Every combination I try says either "LiveCycle Data Services is not installed at the specified location" or "Invalid root. The WEB-INF/flex folder must contain either flex-config.xml or services-config.xml." The flex-config.xml file is sitting in that directory. Is there some trick to getting this to work?

A friend of mine has a Flash Action script running on a LAMP server that currently reads an xml config file. He's asked me if it's possible to remove the xml file, and replace it somehow with a system (lets call it an 'auto xml generator') that intercepts the request to read that file and generates an output, so it appears to all intents and purposes as if the file still exists and contains the contents that has actually been returned from our auto xml generator'

I'm sure it must be a simple error, I can get the logic working when it just traces something on the screen but i can't get it to generate an "enemy"
so the problem is that i was following instructions for making scrolling text with a custom button. and i put the following script (the instances are scrollUp_btn and scrollDown_btn):[code]and afther that i auto-checked it and (besides not working in the preview) it indicates these errors:[code]then i switched the '}'s for '{'s or viceversa but it shows me the opposite error. what's wrong ?
View 4 RepliesIn one of our project we are using flex for front end, blazeds/java in the backend. Its an existing code where services are prewritten. I have to make calls to 3 services in the backend (basically 3 remote objects) and get their result and store the result in an object and show the data of this object in a view.
Now in front end we are using Flex and Parsley Framework. I was thinking of the following approaches.
1) Making commands for each service call and storing the result in a shared object (model) and then displaying this model in the view. In this approach the problem is some services are needed in some other web pages, but they donot need the same model. How should i handle this scenario ? Should i make a asynchronous remote call and fetch the result and then again dispatch and event with the event object storing the result.
2) Making a service call , wait for the result then make another call and wait for the result and then make other call, not sure if this is the right way ?
I was wandering if it is possible to execute an .exe file with a flash swf. when you click a button?I would like to use it with the button symbol.
View 9 RepliesI got an array with much information (just numbers). I don't want the SWFDecompiler to read this array, so how can I deceive it? The array looks like this (not exacly, but):

But it's way longer than that. Anyway, like I said before, how can I deceive the decompiler so it can't read my array?

View 4 RepliesI'm attempting to bring a swf file down to Firefox to cache but not actually execute. The swf comes from a different domain.
The following approach works in Chrome but not Firefox:

Firefox uses a separate cache for images.
This approach works in IE, but not Firefox:

The "declare" tells the browser to cache but not execute it. However, Firefox complains that the request is cross-domain.
Basically I want to create 6 questions with input boxes next to them for the user to inset their answer. I want them to try three times and then if not correct the answer is displayed for them. In the box with a little description next to it.
Question: How many sides as a square
(answer in the box) = 4
(desc to side of box says) = A square has four equal sides.
I have tried to make a login sequence where a user gets three attempts, tries. And then is given a non authorization message.

I'm working entirely in Flash Builder.My users should be able to click a button to start the game. Right now I don't have a functioning start screen yet, but initially the game started immediately with Game.as. But I now decided I want a start screen. So I made a new class file with the graphics and buttons for the start screen in the constructor function, and I added a Mouse click event listener to the button.The game itself is in Game.as, that runs perfectly.In the function for the mouse click event I added:

I have a problem loading remote XML file into SWF file. Im doing a banner for a client with adds that is supose to load constantly updated XML file from my clients server and load some images into flash form it. Everything works fine when i test the movie (CTRL+ENTER), but when i publish it and test it from explorer, XML file is just not loading into flash.
View 7 RepliesI have a main swf file and config.xml located in the same directory. My .swf file uses config.xml to fetch config variable which it does with success.The problem appears when I put those files into Flex directory. I embed .swf file like this.

This time I get an error in Flex:

I linked a proven AS file to a proven .fla. When I tested the .fla, the output panel returns 1046 and 1180 errors relating to objects, e.g., Loader and MovieClip.
View 1 RepliesThis seem like a silly question but as far as I've found: It's impossible to reload an xml file from a remote location while the SWF is running.
For example, I have a kiosk project that will run 24/7 (with a restart each night). I have an "calendar events" loading off an XML file that I want to keep on a webserver so I can update the kiosk by editing the XML file. However, the SWF caches the first XML file and keeps reusing it. I'm testing this by triggering a function that reloads the XML file with a button click.
I found trick that concats a unique ID to the file name which prevents using the old file but that means I'll have an ever growing list of XML files in the Temporary Internet Files folder.
I would like to do a URLRequest to a PHP file which contains xml, and the PHP file will be living on a seperate server from my flash file. I understand there are security issues in this sort of thing. figure out how to make this work?
