There is most certainly as easy way of doing this, but for the life of me I can't find it.
How do I determine the array name of an object i.e. when I hover over a certain clip on stage, I want to identify which array it is from.

In my application, I took a panel and to that I added an image by giving some image path. To that image I added DrawingArea(custom) object and started drawing. After free hand drawing I'm adding that to its parent(by giving this.addChild(graph);). Here this indicates what? What can I give instead of this(especially in case of removing a particular child)?

Simple enough code, works fine when the event.target.parent is the one that has .propertyX, but I'm using this as part of a function for use on various things, and not event.target is the same number of .parents from the .propertyX, so some of them need to be

This should be a simple one. I am running an IF statement that needs to check the 5th value in a pre-populated array. I'm finding it hard to find the right method of searching the array.

indexOf seems to just return where the value is...but I already know where it is! I just want to know WHAT it is! There will also be values that are exactly the same in other positions in the array. I have to focus in specifically on the 5th value.
I am wondering if Flash has a built in way of finding if a value in an array exists. IndexOf only works with string values, but I couldn't find any function that tries to find a value of any data type in an array.
If there isn't one, I will just end up using this:

How do I find number of all the series (combinations of an array that have at least 3 consecutive values, like [7,8,9]) and have the longest number of values?
from [3,4,1,2,2] it would be 2 - ([1,2,3,4] twice, but ignore [1,2,3]*2 and [2,3,4]*2)
from [9,6,7,5,8] it would be 1 - ([5,6,7,8,9])

from this I will be able to multiply the values under 2,3 ad4 4 and multiply them by 3, so I would get 2*1*1 * 3
how to find the consecutive values, and ignore ones that aren't (like the 9)
Is there a method or something that will add up all the values in an array and give me a total?

It says on the number of times used that there is one instance of the object on the flash file, but I can't find it. I thought I deleted them all but there must be one left. How do I go about finding it? It's a really large flash file with many layers, and I don't want to just delete the library file. Is there any way I can find where the object is placed in my file?

I'm developing the server and would like to send through tcp an xy coord to simulate a button press where the receiving flash client would find the topmost visible object at that coord and send a mouse event to it such that we could simulate play without a human present. I'm told this is incredibly difficult, but it seems to me that there must be a way to do this. Am I off the mark? Or is there a mechanism in flash to iterate through all objects regardless of parent child relationships to find a visible button at an x, y coord and signal a press event?

View 3 Repliesam creating a drag and drop activity which utilizes arrays to populate my 'drag' and 'drop' components with their parameters.So far, I am able to get all the drags to work (with a little a few days ago from the boards showthread.php?t=825222) . My problem now is that I need to register which 'drop' is being hit so that I can update the variables for that drop. However, as the drops are in an array, any time I reference that array it uses the information from the third and final drop, even if drop one or two are hit.Here is my code:

I'm trying to write a plug-in for Flash CS5 that will display the "instances path" for a selected object. I'm trying to work with JSFL.I manged to get all selected objects using fl.getDocumentDOM().selection. I iterate over the array I get and look at the objects. I am able to get each of the objects' name. What I need to do is construct the "path" to that object (e.g., scene.scene.instance4.myText). Can anyone think of a way to do that? Is there a way to get the object that contains a certain object?

This would be handy to actually create weak references, since, if you for example, have a static array containing all objects created in that class, you can do a regular check to see if there is only one remaining reference, and if so, you can safely remove it.

I am currently working on a tile based game in Flash, so im working with a two dimensional Array containing the data for the map the player can jump around in. The script is already able to find all the groups within the Array. In the following example Array it groups the left ones and the right using the zero tiles to divide them:

I am already able to get the corners of the groups, but still they are not in the correct order. As well some corners exist twice.

View 3 RepliesI'm often finding a need to get a stage-relative position of objects in my game, which are often buried several layers deep as children of children of children, etc, often with differently scaled/moved/rotated parents. The position i want isn't quite relative to the stage, but a main holder object i have on it called lvlHolder (see code below). I wrote a function to deal with it that recurses up the display list, accounting for each object as it goes, to get a global position. It's worked so far, but one thing it doesn't account for is rotation. I'm finding a need for that now, and i'm not sure how to account for rotation of objects, to rotate offsets from them,

Also any tips on optimisation would be good, as i'm using this a LOT (roughly twice per frame, per object, for physics calculations) I'm also wondering, in similar situations i've seen something related to transform matrices used
