ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash ENTER_FRAME Delay In Firing?
May 5, 2011
Its been a long time since i've posted on this forum. I've always just browsed, but never had enough experience to post and answer questions.I am doing a small project for uni, and im a little stuck with some (probably simple) AS3.
To set the scene.... I have a scene, funnily enough, with 5 frames (and several layers). I have navigation buttons back---home---forward, which do not change over the length of the scene.In each frame (2-5) i have an embedded flv in a movieClip. The idea was to have a listener on the back and forward buttons, when clicked they do either nextFrame(); or prevFrame();.
However, to stop the 5 frames playing (and looping) i put in an action listener for ENTER_FRAME on the first frame (see below).My problem appears to be the time it takes for the ENTER_FRAME to fire. The timeline plays straight away, and is already on frame 2 before the enter_frame actually stops it. Can anyone suggest a reason why there is such a delay in the firing of the enter_frame event, and is there a way to solve it without putting in a gotoAndPlay(1); instead of the stop();??
Also, the forward button works, but the back button never appears to be created. Not quite sure why, as its exactly the same code, with just the names changed, and the instance names as well.

I've got a button that, when clicked runs a method. The method waits for a condition to be met (or rather, waits for a variable to be set in the model) and then updates the view. I did this by setting an ENTER_FRAME listener and it works fine:
ActionScript Code:
private function loadHouseRoom(e:MouseEvent):void
{
view.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,loadStuff);
[Code]....
I also tried setting the addEventListener to use a weak reference, but the Event never gets fired in the first place.
Note: I have to use a method like this. I removed a bunch of code irrelevant to this question to make this more readable, but the user needs to be able to change his mind and click another button before the loadStuff function is called.

I am trying to save memory and space. So instead of using the Timer for my application, I was thinking about using my main loop (ENTER_FRAME) to keep track of time that passes. Is there anything wrong about this ??

I have a little problem while trying to get a URL on a Enter_Frame event using Flash AS3.I would like to trigger the URL request on the last frame of the movieclip.Everything works fine except that instead of getting the URL once, it keeps loading it all the time.
Result: I get hundreds of web pages opening in my browser.
Here is the code I use:
stop();
addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,my_function);
function my_function(e:Event):void{
var homeLink:URLRequest= new URLRequest("http://www.myurl.com");
navigateToURL(homeLink, "_self");
}

I want to create an endless loop, 8 items moving in a circular shape. When you roll over of each item, it will stop the moving, and you should be able to click it.
I dont know what should I use, should I use Event.ENTER_FRAME or the circular shape should be in movie clip, so that when there is a mouse over event, it will stop moving?
Oh ya, I code everything in AS3, including the movement, objects etc. Something like a new class

I want to create a function based (not frame) delay of about 10 seconds to the function at the start of a flash movie, the code only needs to run once.I'm very new to actionscript and have been given links to SetInterval and SetTimer examples but they all seem to be very complex.The function is below. I believe it's possible to add the commandTimer(delay:Number, repeatCount:int = 0) how me to a simple example.
onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
framePos = int(_xmouse / 100 * _parent._totalframes);
if (framePos < 0) {

I have narrowed this error down to the following code, but i cant see the problem...
Code:

ActionScript Code:
addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,frameEventHandler)

In my Flash project I have a movieclip that has 2 keyframes. Both frames contain 1 movieclip each.
frame 1 - Landing
frame 2 - Game
The flow of the application is simple:
User arrives on landing page (frame 1) User clicks "start game" button User is brought to the game page (frame 2) When the game is over, the user can press a "play again" button which brings them back to step 1
Both Landing and Game movieclips are linked to separate classes that define event listeners. The problem is that when I end up back at step 1 after playing the game, the Game event listeners fire twice for their respective event. And if I go through the process a third time, the event listeners fire three times for every event. This keeps happening, so if I loop through the application flow 7 times, the event listeners fire seven times. I don't understand why this is happening because on frame 1, the Game movieclip (and I would assume its related class instance) does not exist - but I'm clearly missing something here.
I've run into this problem in other projects too, and tried fixing it by first checking if the event listeners existed and only defining them if they didn't, but I ended up with unexpected results that didn't really solve the problem.

I'm new to ActionScript development and am using the FlashDevelop IDE. I've been playing around with some really simplistic things and have come across a problem I can't seem to solve.My application compiles and runs, and a function that watches click events fires perfectly and I can see the event in the console when I pass it to trace(), yet the same code watching for KeyboardEvent fails to fire at all.Here's my code:
package GameTesting
{
import flash.display.Bitmap;[code]............
The MouseEvent trace() fires every time as expected, but KeyboardEvent never fires, no matter what key I press.

I'm using BasicView to setup my PV3D scene, and the scene itself works fine (3d carousel of movie posters) but the InteractiveScene3DEvent is not firing when a poster is clicked or moused over. I set my viewport to interactive... twice.
view = new BasicView(stage.stageWidth,stage.stageHeight,true,true);
view.viewport.buttonMode = true;
view.viewport.interactive = true;
And here is the part of the loop where it the event listener is added.
var mm:filmsPoster = new filmsPoster();
mm.loadIMG(image);
var mat:MovieMaterial = new MovieMaterial(mm);
mat.interactive = true;
mat.animated = true;
mat.smooth = true;
mat.doubleSided = true;
mat.name = filmName;
mat.addEventListener(InteractiveScene3DEvent.OBJECT_CLICK, posterClick);

I'm loading images via a URLRequest and Loader classes and I want to manage the image when the request is complete. The example below doesn't fire the event when it is complete. The same code would work find for a URLLoader, but not a Loader object. Basically the image loads and the event listener is never fired. Can anyone tell me how to get an event to fire when Loader finishes loading an image.
var imageReq:URLRequest = new URLRequest("http://www.google.com/images/nav_logo29.png");
var imageLoader:Loader = new Loader();

I have got this script working from How to get mouseup to fire once mousemove complete working within the jQuery (document) scope.Later on I added a flash object inside the body.and when I click on the flash object the mousedown event fired, mousemove event fired, but not the mouseup event which where I want to unbind the mousemove. But when I click on non Flash area, mousedown works, mousemove works, and mouseup also works. It works like I wanted it to in Chrome, but not in Firefox.Here are the codes, and I called handleMouseDown in $(document).ready
handleMouseDown: function () {
jQuery(document).mouseup(function() {
Log("unbind.");

I'm taking my first stab at writing a custom flex 4 component by extending the UIComponent class. Unfortunately, I cannot get the component to respond to any sort of mouse events.I've tried setting mouseEnabled to true is the component, as well as setting mouseChildren to true in the parent (the stage object). It seems whatever I do, my click events can be detected from the stage, but not with the component.Here is my component class:

As I started developing mobile apps for iOS/Android using Adobe AIR I encountered strange problem (or feature). If you create Sprite and make it draggable using startDrag/stopDrag inside MOUSE_DOWN/MOUSE_UP event handlers, everything works. But if you add another listener MOUSE_CLICK to the same object, it starts to fire together with MOUSE_UP. Logically this behavior is all right.
What I need is to prevent firing MOUSE_CLICK handler when user drags the Sprite (startDrag) and I need it to fire when user did not drag the Sprite. What I'm trying to create is a small thumbnail bar which is draggable and after clicking on concrete thumbnail its large version/image opens up. This is actually not possible as MOUSE_CLICK fires everytime user drags whole thumbnail bar so large image opens up everytime.

I'm trying to make a vieport in which you can pan by dragging the background image around. Here is what I've done: [URL] Note that I've hidden the mouse cursor and replaced it with 2 custom ones. The problem is, the event attached to the background, which is a touch event, fires even when the mouse is over a sprite/movieclip (the monkey or the stats) that's in front of that background. And the stats isn't even in the gameLayer (where the monkey and the bg and the mouse cursors are). Try to drag the stats around, and see that the background and everything else pans with it (this is unwanted). Also, I need to remove the custom cursor and show the regular cursor whenever the mouse is NOT on the background (i.e. when it's on the monkey or stats or any new sprites I may/will have in the future).

I just inherited some code that produces an embedded rdio music player into a swf. It works great in firefox and safari, except the embedded player does not appear in Firefox... :(
Is this a common issue with the Loader class or contentLoaderInfo events?

import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.display.StageAlign;

I am working on a portal which is built in flex. I wanted to perform some action based on my applications is in focus or out of focus. So I tried to use two Events for this purpose Event.Activate and Event.Deactivate inside my flex code.
These events fire perfectly in FF 3.0 and above, Safari, Chrome and these events get triggered till IE 7.
But when I switch to IE 8 and above versions with latest flash player plugin 10,2,152,26 the Event.deactivate is not firing, and I am not able to detect whether my Flex application is out of focus.
I tried doing some research around this issue both using Flex Events and Javascript approach using window.onfocusin and window.onfocusout, but still no luck in IE 8 and higher versions with latest Flash plugin 10,2,152,26.
As we have a large number of users viewing this portal in IE 8 with latest flash plugin.
The code is simple and I have pasted below:
package {
import flash.display.*;
import flash.utils.*;

First note: mathematically, I'm not that skilled at all. I played a game on iPhone a while back where you press a point, and an arrow fires from your castle which will always intersect the point you pressed. I wanted to make a similar game, thinking it would be an easy quick make; then I ran into the realization that the mathematics for this is actually beyond my skill level.
I'm assuming they're using a parabola formula or something which would determine the velocity and angle needed when the arrow is launched for the arrow to always intersect the clicked point. I only vaguely remember how parabolas work from school and have no chance of working out any formulas.

I've made a custom video player in as3. Everything works, but once a video has loaded and played through completely, if the user replays the video it continuously fires the NetStream.Buffer.Flush event until the video stops playing again (by either ending or by the user hitting pause). It doesn't seem to effect anything negatively, but I would rather not have an event continuously firing in the background like that. I can't find any documentation of this happening online anywhere. Is this normal behavior for a NetStream that has fully loaded?

I'm just trying to understand a difference between IE, Chrome and Firefox. I have the following code on a page:
$('object').live('click', function(){
alert('Fired');
});
I then populate the page with some Flash controls (in my case, I'm using Uploadify). When I click on the Flash control, I see the alert in Firefox 4. However, I do not see the alert in IE8 or Chrome (I havent tested any other browsers).
