ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash File Loading Half Cut In Safari
Jan 29, 2010
A strange issue in Safari (both Mac and PC) versions... coming to the site with a clean cache and the Flash file, loads in cut in half, and hugging the top of the browser. A refresh fixes the issue!

I've built a form, and next to my form element I've placed a flash object. When the page is loaded, the form is display: block, and the flash object is display: none.
The layout looks something like (the img is there so that if the user doesn't have flash, the gif animation will play instead):

I have a movieclip with an image fading in and out (using an actionscript tween class set to yoyo). This movieclip is loaded into a dummy movieclip when a button is pressed. The first time you click the button the fading movieclip plays as it should, fading in and out continuously. However, the second or subsequent times the button is clicked the fading movieclip goes crazy, half fading in/out and half jumping from one alpha value to another.

Building a flash website in CS3. I've made every button the exact same way, draw a rectangle, convert to symbol, type as either button or movie clip (doesn't seem to matter and I'm not using rollover stuff), alpha 0% and stick it on its own layer above everything else.Action scrip is as follows:
main1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, gotoMain);
main2.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, gotoMain);
function gotoMain(event:MouseEvent):void
{
gotoAndPlay(1);
}
that's with 2 buttons for main. I have the exact same code multiple times for many different buttons. It works everywhere except the last two buttons on my page will work the first time you click them from the main page, but then don't work after that until you click on the main page again. Then it works.These two:
babout3.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, gotoAboutb1);
bcontact3.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, gotoBcontact1);
the function is described on an earlier action keyframe:
bcontact1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, gotoBcontact1);
function gotoBcontact1(event:MouseEvent):void[code]...
Of course I've tried just having one button do this and copy/pasting the button on different areas of the movie, but nothing I've done fixes. I've even gone through and deleted every button and AS and redone it. I've put every button on its own layer (shouldn't matter but I'm trying everything I can think of).if there is an easier way of using AS to navigate a flash movie let me know. The other options I've seen seem a bit too complex at the moment.

The first half of the tween doesn't work but the second half does. It only does this when I add the code link._visible = 0;. This is to make the alpha completly disappear.

Can somebody check out my .fla file and let me know if there is something wrong with the actionscript. Or if there is another script I can add to it to check if it frooze or to force continue..

I'm a semi-beginner with AS, particularly with AS3. I am using a preloader to preload half the main swf before actually loading it. It will be approx. 30mb so I don't want people waiting for all of it to load, I'd rather it preload half, open it, then continue loading the rest. I'm presuming this is possible. If so, I intend to include a progress bar once inside the main swf so that the more it loads, the more menu buttons glow and become active. I've seen this "continuous load" thing done with the Halo Believe ebsite.See heror the Halo website, the developers broke up the swf into five 10mb swf files and stitched them together so they would seamlessly load (much like a streaming video) and the visitor would be none the wiser.
I have no idea how they did it, but I thought it would be simpler to keep mine as one complete 30mb file; preload half and then load half while in the main swf. The main swf is an image sequence similar to the Halo site, and the menu buttons are locatedthroughout the image sequence, so they will be accessible as the main swf continues to load. I'm hoping this makes some sort of sense!I've just switched to AS3. I haven't included a progress bar yet, I'm still trying to get the main swf to load half way first:
Frame 1 of preloader:
Code: Select allstop();
var loadDNA:Loader = new Loader(); //loadDNA is what I've called my loader

I have a pre-loader with dynamic loading text displaying the % of movie loaded. I also have an animated loading bar which goes from left to right.Is there a way of making the loading bar only be fully loaded at 100% an only half full at 50% etc. At the moment the loading bar movie clip plays until loaded and then starts all over again if the movie hasn?t loaded yet.

I'm creating a movie with heavy animation and audio in Flash CS4. I have a preloader that I purchased from flash den.com and I believe it's pre set to begin the movie when the total file is done loading. But I want the movie to begin when half the total .swf file is loaded. Here is my code on frame 1
FRAME 1:
var amountLoaded:Number = _root.getBytesLoaded()/_root.getBytesTotal();
preloader._width = amountLoaded * 250;
loadText.text = Math.round(amountLoaded * 100) + "%";

I made a simple slideshow type viewer for a client. It works wonderfully for me in OS X using Safari and Firefox, and it works in Firefox under windows as well. Linky Now, the guy writing the backend stuff for the site uses windows, and noticed that when you navigate *away* from the page, and then go back, the images don't load. In IE 7. He sent me a screenshot using some http debugger.
Screenshot So, we figured we'd use a "cache buster" in IE. I made the flash append "?<RANDOM_STRING>" when requesting the images, but it doesn't seem to do the job. The HTTP debugger shows the request occurs, but Flash never actually receives the image. Here's the entirety of the class "SlideshowImage" which is responsible for loading the images ( and other junk, like photo credits, etc ). Hopefully somebody with more AS3 experience can hit me with the proverbial clue stick. I've been writing AS2 for a long time, but AS3 for only the last 6 months or so. I've never seen these problems in AS2, so I assume I'm doing something wrong in AS3.
A final note. I know that the XML file which describes the slideshow is being correctly loaded, since I can see the correct copy overlay and other factors. It just appears that the images never come down the pipe.

I load images from an XML file and sometimes everything would load up just fine, but there are times when flash would stop loading in the middle of my my list...

On firefox, all items usually would load up all the time but there are occassions where it would only load 3 out of 8 or some anywhere before it's suppose to finish. If you keep hitting refresh on the link i posted, you'll see. its even worse on safari since it would seldom load the whole thing... never had a problem with IE though.
here is the code im working on
Code:
var productHolder:MovieClip = productHolder_mc;
var bannerHolder:MovieClip = bannerHolder_mc;
var paginationHolder:MovieClip = paginationHolder_mc;
var whatIsaLoading:String = "";

Upload file to Server via AS3 & PHP - MAC FF & SAFARI PROBLEM ONLY Goal: User will be able to upload a file from their hard drive and that file will be saved on server. Eventually I'd like to add security and not allow overwriting of files on server but for now I can't seem to get the basics to work on MAC FF & Safari
The "onComplete" and upload never fires off. I'd be happy to email anyone the files if you need them.

i am working on an intro for a friend of mine and it includes a lot of individual photos. the preloader takes forever but i can figure out how to only load half of the movie instead of the entire thing before it plays. here's the code i have for the preloader itself:
Code:
onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
loading = _parent.getBytesLoaded();
[code]...
here's a link to the current test page so you can see the entire intro and how long it takes now with that code to load. i just want it to load part of the file instead of waiting for all of it.[URL]

How would you defer loading of other graphics on the page until after the images in a Flash gallery's images.xml file are finished loading?Is there any way to detect for this, or would I only be able to check if the flash swf object is finished loading? I'm pretty sure the swf object would be loaded/ready as with document.getElementById('flashobject').onload = function(){}; before the corresponding images have loaded though, instead of after.

We have a flash game being developed in actionscript 3 and it runs much more slowly on our remote server.The game specs:-8 different movie clips, all 1 frame static png files from 10x10 to 100x100anywhere from 10 to 60 instancesof those MCs on screen at any given timeevent loop is run from a flash Timer at 25msall interaction is via the keyboardThe strange thing is, we publish the swf file and run it locally and everything is fast.We copy the swf to a remote server and everything runs much more slowly. The music plays at normal speed, but the movieclips all move around the screen at about half speed.
Why would the file run differently when fetched from a remote server? Isn't the swf always being run locally anyway? Also, we ran it locally and remotely with the task manager running and it does not seem to consume much CPU or memory.EDIT: Ok, this is really weird. I added a framecounter textfield to the game. It reports the number of ms since the last timer tick. It consistently reports 50ms. My timer is clearly set to 25. This explains the half speed, but what explains this? I also added a check on the timer.Interval property to see if it had changed and it hasn't; it's still set to 25 while the game is running.ode to use ENTER_FRAME instead of timer, and it works. I get the full 40fps, give or take a few %. Still not sure what's wrong with the timer though; if it was being delayed by the time spent in my loop it would fluctuate, but it doesn't. It's 50ms every time no matter how much is going on.Here's the code I'm using(more or less):
t = new Timer(25);
t.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, timerTick);
t.start();
