ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Isometric Z-soring By Coordinates Not X/y?

I want to do a z-sorting for an isometric game via i,j, sizeI and sizeJ of the objects, and not the x/y values. I don't plan on using z axis.

I have searched google a lot and only sorting via x/y comes up. Thus I have come, like always to Kirupa to ask for help and guidance.

If I failed to put some crucial detail to the problem don't be afraid to ask for it, I am in dire need of help

A few people asked me how to get isometric (3d) coordinates from the mouse click (2d).

The answer is: you have to assume that one of the x, y or z coordinates is fixed.

Flash :: Converting 2d Co-ordinates Into Isometric Ones?

Am updating a 2D game I made to have an isometric view, problem is am having issues when converting the 2d coordinates of given movieclips into isometric ones. The way I converted my game into an isometric one is just by rotating rectangular graphic 45 degrees and increasing its width such that its 2 times the height.I having problems converting all my 2D coordinates into isometric ones.Is there a function to convert them, or a mathematical formula I could use? by the way the game am making is not tile based, so functions that use tiles to convert the coordinates are not going to work unfortunately.

EDIT: I managed to fix it, I just changed the alignment to be the upper left corner, i.e. though the game is isometric and has a demimonde shape, I imagined that it is contained in a box, and that box's upper left edge is where it is aligned...this way both x and y coordinates r the same ones in both 2D and "isometric" view.

In case I want to create an isometric figure like the first two objects shown and by mouseover they should lift up to the last figure shown. Its no problem to create the basic figures with Photopshop, but I dont know how to animate them in flash cs5.

I'm trying to generate an isometric grid via code using kirupa's tutorial but it's not quite working correctly as I'm trying to convert it. I am trying to generate a 5 x 5 grid with a unique coordinate to each square, but I can only get a row to form with the coordinates showing x = 5 and y = 5 for each square of the single row. I was trying to convert global coordinates to local coordinates of a UIComplenent in my flex project using below code using below code

var gp:Point = new Point(e.stageX,e.stageY); //global point
var lp:Point = uic.globalToLocal(gp); //local point

uic is UIComponent in which I have subclass of Sprite for drawing something I have set the sprite's mouseEnabled and mouseChildren to false to not interrupt the mouse event. above code is within uic's mousemove event where I was tracing the gp and lp gp was giving correct value and suprisingly lp was giving negetive values. when I move the move to the top left corner of uic i expect lp to be 0,0 but it is giving the -width of of uic. I broke my head for hours and ended up finding an alternate by using offsets. Infact my original code was much simpler like this which was same issue

var lp:Point = new Point(e.localX,e.localY);

I am not sure what exactly is causing this problem. the workaround had lot of issues and it creating a mess in my rest of the algorithms.Just now I found even more interesting thing (which is actually weird). for some reason I went and create a new lp2

var lp2:Point = new Point(e.localX,e.localY);

now surprisingly it was giving correct values as expected and I went back and changed the code as

var gp:Point = new Point(e.stageX,e.stageY); //global point
var lp:Point = uic.globalToLocal(gp); //local point
var lp2:Point = new Point(e.localX,e.localY);
var lp2:Point = uic.globalToLocal(gp);

now it is expected to have all the lp, lp2 and lp3 variables to be same but weiredly lp two is giving wrong value and lp2 and lp3 were giving correct. I am suspecting using the variable lp has something to do. I am not sure about that but above proves it so right now I am using lp2.

I was reading the 'Isometric Transformations' tutorial by Danko Kozar and I have a few questions. I understand what all the code does, but not how it does it. First of all, how does the following code work:

transforms x,y,z coordinates into Flash x coordinate
xFla = function (x, y, z) {

I understand that it converts 3d coordinates to 2d coordinates, but I don't understand how. What numbers whould be punched into x, y, and z to acquire certain desired effects?Also, what's the difference between moveTo and lineTo:

How would I go about using CopyPixels to build an isometric map? CopyPixels takes a specific rectangle and copies that onto a bitmap.. But how would one use that to build a seamless isometric map?Building a square top-down tiled map would be very simple as copypixels pastes each tile next to one another.. But for Isometric Maps, this would be different as some parts of the CopyPixels rectangle is over lapped into other tiles.. and this would 'erase' the bitmap of the other tiles currently on the bitmap..[URL]Fig2, is what happens when you try to do a copyPixel over an existing bitmap, assuming the white is transparent space.

I've been reading a bunch of the tutorials about using isometric in flash but they all seem to have one thing in common. They all use the arrow keys for movement. I've been trying to use the mouse for movement but have only met with frustration so far. I can get the movement to work but then the object collision on the tiles doesn't work or vise versa.

Using a matrix I'm tyring to turn a square into an isometric tile by skewing it upwards (y -30) and skewing it to the right (x + 60). This does giv the desired angles but the sides of the square are stretched and become incongruent. Is there some way to lock the sides from stretching when skewed with a matrix? Any simple path finding method for my isometric game im making. I am currently creating a game similar to cafe world, farmville etc (social game). Would like to know how could I make an object move in an isometric direction when my mouse move. For example, when I want to build a house, I click on the house build button, and when my mouse move, I want my house object (stored in the library) to be move together with my mouse in an isometric direction. I have a stage that's filled with dynamically generated isometric objects [ in the shape of a smiley, placed according to an array ], and when I click a button, I would like the stage to be cleared, then another frame with another isometric code and another array to load. The problem I am facing now is that the items positioned from the smiley are still on the stage if the next array is smaller than the previous one. Any way I could clear the stage before going on the next frame? Currently, I tried unloadMovieNum(depth) in between with this code:

I am currently working on a very simple isometric3d game with a hero to move to mouse click position, using path-finding. I am trying to code everything myself step by step,as a beginner , i am well aware of asolib3d but I don't want to use it...I have read tutorials and few books I completely done with my isometric3d map. i create my path finding A-star class which is working perfectly with 2d grid tiles, but when i try to use it with isometric3d grid world it doesn't work properly.

my character movement is not correct. If hero position=0,0 and I click 0,10 on my iso grid instead of moving down he will move on the right side.
