I'm new to ActionScript and have a fairly basic question. I want an eventlistener to call a function and pass it a parameter that will send the movie to a specific frame. My code generates and invalid parameter type error. It's as follows:

Error is "1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: number."

View 1 Replieswhat I'm trying to do: I have an animation thats 173 frames long - an intro to a html based website. This swf file is embedded in the index.html, and is to load my "main-html", when the animation is complete.To try and do this iv'e tried with the following code in a blank keyframe in my as3 code layer on the last frame of the animation: [code]Upon completed animation it just goes into a frantic loop which seems to be trying to connect to my "main.html", but never have a chance to completely connect before it tires again.I have used similar code for my buttons, inside the page itself, which works just fine.
View 3 Repliesthe code below is placed on one frame of the main timeline...it works, but apparently continually triggers the "gotoAndPlay" action over and over again. How can an ENTER_FRAME event be made to play a moive clip such as "staged_kiss_mc" only once?
The playhead on the main timeline rests in this single frame for a while; it would be great if "staged_kiss_mc" were to only play once, when the playhead first enters this frame, rather than apparently repeating continually...is there code to stop this repetition?

I have added a new tutorial on the EnterFrame event in ActionScript 3. This tutorial is almost 40 minutes in length and goes into the syntax of using the EnterFrame event and as an added feature there is a discussion on adding filters to a Sprite in
ActionScript 3.
I have also completed the polling system on the website. There are now three active polls asking the users of the site for their opinions on the tutorials, the website itself and what they would like to see developed in the way of future tutorials. Users can vote more than once, but I am tracking the user IP so that when it comes time to slice the data I can gather accurate information. Just thought I would announce that up front.
The next group of tutorials under development will be the conditional statements used in ActionScript. The IF, ELSE IF and SWITCH statements. I am looking forward to those tutorials as we can now start making the tutorials much more interesting putting
all we have learned together.
i created couple instances of movieclip with some simple animation inside, want it to animate when mouse is over, and animate backwards when mouse is out.[code]it works better, only one instance move, but if i move mouse over second instance before first one finish moving back to the first frame (and remove listener), again both instances animate together, like they are using the same timeline.
View 3 RepliesI have two buttons and a light blue circle. When you press the second button from the left, it changes the variable name to "boxTwo".In the circle video clip I have a enterframe with a condition to say, if the name is "boxTwo" play an animation, but it doesn't work.

How do you stop an ENTER_FRAME event after two tweens have executed?I have an AS3 package-based-classes Flash website loading nicely. The very last effect is the hover or active state for the button for the current page to tell the user what page they're on. I want the button's active state to execute using an ENTER_FRAME event and NOT using a Timer method. Mainly because I'd simply like to know how it's done and also because I've already used several timers to load the API. But, using the code below, I can't stop the ENTER_FRAME precisely after two tweens have fired - the Alpha tween and the Tweener that pulls the a blur effect into focus.[code]
I've tried several IF and ELSE IF conditions to tell Home.removeEventListener(Event. ENTER_ FRAME, OverState); exactly when to occur but the IF conditions either removeEventListener too soon, before the two tweens have fired, or the IF conditions just don't execute at all and the ENTER_FRAME trace continues on ad infinitum. You can use IF conditions that precisely operate on stage X and Y positions. But I can't figure out how to make an IF condition execute precisely after the two Tweens.How do you stop an ENTER_FRAME event PRECISELY after two tweens have executed so that Home.removeEventListener( Event.ENTER_ FRAME,OverState); executes at exactly the right point?
The problem is that when I Rollover on the buttons it changes the position and floats.

how do I get arguments to work with Enter frame event in as3?
I frequently see the usage of ENTER_FRAME and EXIT_FRAME event types in AS3 code. I can even use the first event type just blindly to get certain things done. But I want to clear my concepts on these very fundamental things. My qeries are as below:When do the above 2 event types take place - I mean what triggers them?Does ENTER_FRAME trigger at the rate of FPS? If a MovieClip spans over 48 frames and the FPS = 24 - does this mean the ENTER_FRAME will occur 48 times for the full life-span of the MovieClip?Regarding the EXIT_FRAME, I could not find any example or description yet.
View 2 RepliesI have a UILoader on the main timeline, then I have to load an external mc with a ENTER_FRAME event in it. When I load something else, I found the ENTER_FRAME event is still working. Why doesn't it unload with the mc?
View 2 RepliesI'm having trouble getting the Video class to work.. Everything works fine until I try to add an on enter frame event listener to the movie. I basically want to overlay an effect that gets updated every frame but adding the event listener causes the movie to freeze before it loads or on the first frame or just shortly after starting play back.. It freezes even if the enter frame method body is commented out so I don't think it's because of extra overhead..
Forgive me for this stupid noob question but I want to call a function (loadList) that originally gets triggered after a mouseevent from another function (addToXML) that does not have an event.
The loadList function takes info from a XML var, sticks it into an array which then gets loaded into a tile list and that is working fine.
The addToXML function when called adds elements to the XML var after which I want to call the first function with the event parameter so it refreshes the items in the tile list.
I know it can do this by creating a new array and loading that into the tile list in the addToXML function, but it be much simpler to just recall the function.
I have tried things like

but all the event constants I have tried give me error messges like "1061: Call to a possibly undefined method addEventListener through a reference with static type Function."
I have an event listener for a custom event type. This custom event overrides the clone method as required.In this event listener I want to dispatch an instance of a different type of event... a different custom event instance altogether. It also overrides the clone method as required.The problem is I'm getting a type coercion error: TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: ...I do not know what is trying to do the casting. i have 1 PHP page in which i have a Flash animation. this flash swf file, display 2 fields and 1 button.
this php page is called "test.php".
i'm able to send data from Flash to a PHP page, but i would like to send the content of those 2 fields to the "test.php" and display them. however, i do not know how to do it.
i see that it works but i'm not able to display or refresh the PHp page to display the result.
as walkaround i was thinking to collect the webpage address where is executed the flash and to send it to another PHP page. and this 2nd PHP page, will reload the test.php with parameters...
how to get under flash, the address of the actual executed php page ?

I have a series of MCs in my root timeline. On each frame in the root, I am simply running 'stop();' to allow the MC within the frame to play through all the way. Once the timeline within the MC reaches the last frame, I have the following AS to go back to the root and play the next frame (each frame is labelled):

I have a flash movie for drop down menus that is called by all flash/movie banner sections of my site. The banner movies use FlashVars to set the heading and an image. The trouble is that the flash menus also were set to use a flashvar to dictate the context of the menus and leave one top level menu highlighted to show the content to the user. I have not been able to get both of them to use the Flashvars functionality. The html page calls the banner movie directly and it can therefore access the Flashvars. The menu swf however - which is not called from the html page but instead is called from within the banner movie - cannot access the flashvars variables. That leaves me with two choices:
1. Either use a different method for passing the context variable to the menu movie.
2. HTML code calls the banner movie. I can continue using flashvars and get the context variable by reading it from within the banner movie - and then somehow pass the value down to the menu movie if that is possible.

is it possible to pass a parameter to flash from html together with the call of the .swf file? In the .swf I play different slide shows. The paramter I need, to know which slide show to start. I know that I can load parameters from xml or text files, but not how to pass a parameter directly wiht the call of the .swf.

In this case, the servlet is called/working fine only in my system where the flash application is deployed & not working when I execute the application in different system using the "IPAddress" of my system. So, What changes I need to make in above Flash code in order to call the same servlet successfully from my system and as well as from other systems? (OR)
Is there any need to pass the servlet-url's relative instead of absolute? If so, How can we pass relative-path of url's in Flash? && Can anyone explain me with an example? How to change my above code to pass the url 'relative' rather than 'absolute'? If I pass the url relatively, does my issue gets resolved?
I'm trying to find a way that I can control how a flash movie handles the click event from the HTML page outside the movie.
I run a website where we have advertising space for Flash Ads provided by our customers which, when clicked, open their own website in a new browser window (i.e. target='_blank') - however this causes us a few issues:
1.) We want to track the success of their ads, so we give them a custom URL that their ad should link to instead of linking directly to their site. This URL logs the click before redirecting the browser to the customer's website.
2.) Often the flash files we get use GetUrl() which seams to trigger the popup blockers in IE 7 & 8.
These two points mean we have to provide them with the custom URL for them to include in their flash ad, and/or tell them how to set up the movie to handle the clicks in a way that doesn't trigger the IE popup blocker, and this doesn't make it as seamless as it should be to place an ad on our site.
So, what I'm trying to do is find a way that I can reference the Flash movie object with JavaScript (or similar), and set the click event to open up a specified URL - so if the customer's flash movie doesn't have the right URL set in it, or is triggering IE's popup blocker it doesn't matter because when we display it, we can modify the event handler to use the correct URL and to open up their website without tripping any popup blockers.

I need to pass a struct and a string in a web service. I am using a WebService components to do so.upon my search, there is no struct type in actionscript and so I used a class for that one.

and I'm filling it up so that I can pass it on the web service like this:

Upon sending this request, it prompts me an error of Error #1088.
the component that is being called by webServComponentId.operationToCall(newUser, "password"); is this:

Basically it is a web service via MXML. So when I call the operation, it always go to fault part and shows Error #1088

It seems as if System.setClipboard() isn't available inside an event handler (which makes at least some sense given what I know about Flash security).get it to work? or block on the URL load so that I can then call setClipboard() in the main event flow?

The above code works most of the time but my concern is what happens if timer gets garbage collected? Is it possible that onTimerComplete will never fire because there are no other references to timer? I know timer has an internal list of handlers but that won't keep it from being GC'ed i think.
