Im creating a kids drag and drop game and want the 6 words to change place each time it is played. ive got a box which i want them to move about in. create an array of some kind to possible do this, but i'm stuck in actually creating it. also ive managed to drag and sound clip onto my first frame and cannot delete it so any help with it would be helpful (pig oinking isnt needed when u load the game )

Basically, it loads and parses an external XML file. I have it set to just step through the file but I'd like it to randomly display the images referenced by the XML. The script works like this, but I can't seem to figure out how to get the XMl into an array and then have the function read it correctly. It seems to me that the call:

picture.loadMovie(image[p], 1);

with p being changed somehow to a call to myArray should work, but it doesn't. What am I doing wrong?

this creates the load XML function and counts the children to an array

so the XML needs to loaded into the array somehow. Here's the array with a bunch of numbers instead of the XML info.

My homepage contains a flash file that tweens through 4 product images. I want to program my file so that every time the user goes to the homepage, the flash cycles through the four images randomly. I thought the easiest way to so this would be to create four series of image tweens and label each, and then code the first frame of the movie to go to one of the labels at random.

I'm writing a game that involves cargo, and I plan to have a large number of cargo types. Currently I have a Cargo class, and a ship carrying cargo has an array of the Cargos it is holding. I'd really rather not have each ship with a bunch of objects when all I really want to know is how much of which cargoes each ship has. Especially when these ships will be created and discarded a lot.

I'm sure the thing I'm looking for is so basic I'll look dumb for even asking, but I know there's something similar to an array that holds an object and a related value. I want to use that to reference the Cargo type from the static array, and hold the quantity.

What's it called? How would I use it (ie what are common functions used for it)? Some code snippets and terminology would be ideal.

I am trying to use the following code to convert an object read in from a ByteArray to an Array and store it:

In debugging, I find that 'data' is indeed populated with the correct data and takes up memory and is in an Array friendly format. However, invObjects is NULL. How does merely saying 'data as Array' make the holding variable suddenly null?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Hittest Only Works On Last Object In Array

For days now I have been trying to get this hit test to work and which ever way I try it, it always comes back to the same result. I get a hit on the last item I pushed into my array but none on the previous items I pushed in. Also if I put a .sort() on the array it only gives a hit on the last item of the array, no matter which one I push in.

The idea is that I want to drag and drop objects onto the stage, they may not overlap so I need a hit test on the objects so I can make them undroppable when the hit test is true.

This is the part I have for dragging the objects to the stage, and adding them to arrays for the hit test.

Now if I run this I can add the object to the stage just fine no errors or other issues but the hit test only works on the last object I added to the stage/array and not the previous object I added to the stage/array.

Sso I drag the first object to the stage. (no other object are available yet so nothing happens, this is as it should be) Then I drag a second object to the stage, this reacts to the first object and returns the hit test as true. (Also great and working as it should.) Then I drag a 3th object to the stage, this reacts to the 2nd object I dragged just fine and return a true value, but it does not react to the 1 object I dragged onto the stage. Then when I drag a 4th object to the stage it will react to the 3th object I added, but not the 1st ad 2nd object.

I am trying to replace an Object inside my nested array (colArray) by using splice, the object acts as my player and will need to maneuver around the Array it's in. The Problem is splice doesn't appear to be showing anything in return, it comes up with an error saying: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.What am i doing wrong ? And how would i go with moving my playerObject around the array?

I'm currently writing a feature for an interactive periodic table which dynamically displays the name of the element and other properties when you hover over the element. I have thought of three ways to do this and I am wondering which is the best, memory-wise and speed-wise, for loading this information.

make a class with an array ( new Array("hydrogen", "helium", "lithium",...etc.)), instantiating it, then accessing the info with object.arr[i] make a class with a static array (otherwise, same as no.1), importing it, then accessing the info with class.arr[i] put the information into an external xml file and accessing it from there. The 3rd method seems excessive as you have to go through the hassle of adding event listeners for URLloader every time. Is there any difference between the 1st and 2nd way? (What is happening in terms of memory when you are importing a class - is the entire array added to memory?)

I have created a game in which the user controls a object which moves across the bottom of the screen firing bullets at fish which randomly swim across the screen. My problem however is that when the timer runs out some of the fish stay on the screen instead of disappearing, I have tried everything to make them all go away but I always end up with one or two which stay stuck and remain there no matter what the user does. My code for the balloons moving n disappearing is as follows:

I'm basically loading an XML file to assign instances of a movie clip a distinct value, which it uses to modify its height. So, I'm looping through the xml and instantiating my class Object each time (Rect) and then placing that Object into an array:

the trace here always comes up undefined. "listPosition" in this bit is an Rect parameter, defined in the previous bit of code as "i", so I can keep track of the order of the stack.I've found one or two examples of putting objects into an array and getting them back out, but it doesn't seem to work with this, maybe because I'm using a class. I don't know.Could this be an area where I need to use the array access brackets, like around the movie clip the object is loaded into. I've tried everything I can think of -- referencing back to the movieclip, adding extra objectRef type parameters... nothing has worked yet.

I have a function that uses the ... rest argument as follows:

I call it using myActionObject.dispatchActions("all"); The problem is that when a listener receives the dispatched params object and try to access the actions array, it does nothing. If I try to trace evt.params.actions it traces blank and if I try to trace evt.params.actions[0] it traces undefined.

ex:

I have an xml flash slide show that works great but i would really like it to randomly select the images out of the xml so that every time it is seen it is showing a different cycle of images. I'm not by any means an ActionScript expert far from it actually, but i understand a bit of it (not enough to write my own code yet).here is the code im using:

I used the tutorial for making a xml gallery and changed it up a bit to make a banner ad gallery from an xml file. This makes life easier for my non flash designers to just update the xml file when new ads come out. I would now like to make it randomly select the first image.The only idea I had was to change the p = 0; part to p = Math.floor(Math.random() * total); That didn't work.There is some additional code in there for a coldfusion click tracker and some to build the url string for the coldfusion page
