My class file is located here: C:alexflashportfolioimagesDualGallery.as
My class file is defined as:
package portfolio.images

My FLA is importing it as :
import portfolio.images.DualGallery;
Normally I use portfolio.classes and I have no trouble. My AS3 prefs are set to the alexflash folder.

I have a App.fla file on a path and a App.as file on the same path. On the Class field I put "App" and on the ActionScript Settings Source path there is "." which means the same path of the .fla file, right? I open the App.fla file and click on the little "pencil" icon in order to edit App.as but then Flash whether tells me there's no class file associated or it opens a new ActionScript file.
So I can't do nothing , I even copied all code into the App.as , and pasted into the new ActionScript file it generates when I click the little pencil button. It still cannot find the god damned class. A little detail, I'm using Mac OS X 10.6.2. I've been working full time with flash on a Windows and that never happened to me before. That hasn't happend to me on Mac either (though I have hardly used it to do FLASH/AS).

I have a Flash file that calls com.plaidfox.MainClass as it's document class (com/plaidfox/MainClass.as). This class has the following code:

This code works perfectly the way I want it to. However, I am having a very difficult time splitting this code up. What I want to do is take the function PlantGrass and place it in another action script file [URL] to help organize my functions and classes. I tried putting the PlantGrass function in the second file, but I can never get it to work.

I have a site that plays either .mp3 or .flv files depending on what is selected from the menu. Menu loads in from xml. I get "unable to make connection with server or unable to find flv on server" when I try to play the video. But the video and audio files are all in the same directory and the mp3 files play fine. I think I'm having a problem with the setMedia command. Here's the code that loads the video and audio files.

I have a program where I have multiple classes derived from a base class. I want to take all instances of the different subclasses and put them into an array. Is there a way I can search for anything derived from the base class?For example, right now a get the number of children, then see what they are, so:

I been given some banners to adapt, unfortunately on not very familiar with AS3 and im trying to align a word to the left but for the life of me i cant figure out what to change. Can anyone please shed some light? I can get letter spacing to work but I can't find an align command.

I adopted and existing site, and am making some changes.

A seperate movieclip named page4 shows in the library to have 6 uses. On the clip are two text boxes both static and one has a movieclip button overlayed. Selecting any of the three changes the propery panel for allowing editing. However. Even though I can see the reference point (the cross) of the movieclip page4, I can find no way to get flash (CS5) to show me the properties to allow giving it an instance.

I have a WCF Service running SOAP and allowing Flex / Flash to connect to it using basicHttpBinding by using the 'Data' 'Import Web Service' option. Unfortunately when I consume and invoke this service within Flex it throws the following error...

This method returns an array of Presentation objects that are retreived by the service. At the moment there are no DataContracts and I'm allowing the POCO Presentation object to be serialised and punted out by the service that works fine. However, this class has a readonly property of the type System.Drawing.Size that derived from appropriate height and width properties. Looking through the generated code, it doesn't register a 'Size' class in the base import schema although it still seems to create a Size class.
An alternative has been to stop the derived property from being serialised using the [XmlIgnore] but that has not worked. I need a way of allowing my Flex application to communicate with my WCF service but it seems to choke on the System.Drawing.Size type and while I could change this, there are other framework types such as Point, Rectangle, etc, etc. that are utilised within the project.

This should be rather simple, but for some reason i'm only able to find methods to just diplay a random image, but i want the image to change once a day not every time you load the page.
All i have atm are a empty movieclip to load the photos, an upload system in flash that uploads photos to a specified directory, but now i have to figure out the AS to make the movieclip load a random photo from a specified directory once a day.

I know that the class exist in the project because i generate a swf file and decompile it and it show the class.

I usually use if(object!=null) but it doesn't work well.
How can I verify if the class is instantiated. I want to get rid of the 'cannot access a property of a null object or reference'.
I mean, the 'var object:Object;' is just a reference to an Object class instance. When i initialize it with 'object = new Object()' it runs the code in the constructor, initializing it. How can I check if it has been initialized or not.

I'm trying to replace instances created by dragging and dropping into a MovieClip through Flash's IDE with actual classes so I can add them to a game loop and have them as actual entities. In other words, I'm trying to create a streamlined way to allow developers to visually add their entities to a platforming engine I'm working on.
This is my third attempt at it and I'm completely stuck.The code below loops through a movieclip that contains an exported symbol with a class linked to it named MyEntity. However, it loses its extension to BaseClass and thus doesn't move when compiled.
It inherits: MovieClip > BaseClass > MyEntity. However when compiled with the IDE it ignores BaseClass and just does MovieClip > MyEntity.
My code is designed to find and store the position of MyEntity, remove it from the container movieclip, add a brand new instance of it (with the base being proper) then set that new instance to the same position of the original.

It outputs Game.entities::MyEntity [class MyEntity] false. MyEntity is a proper class and DOES extend from BaseClass. However, the issue is the IDE weirdly removes the reference to the base class - as if MyEntity never had a base class. I cannot seem to recreate it as getting the reference to the class also returns that MyEntity never had a BaseClass. However, if I type in var newEnt = MyEntity(); instead of getting the class name through getDefinitionByName it works normally and extends from BaseClass.I need it to extend from BaseClass as that is the main class all entities in my game engine require to use.

I'm using a library that has a function that returns an instance of some class Engine.
I'd like to tack on some interfaces to Engine, so I subclass it class InterfacedEngine extends Engine implements AwesomeInterface. but when I change the code that uses the classes from this:
var engine:Engine = generateEngine();
to this: var interfacedEngine:InterfacedEngine = generateEngine();
It gives me a runtime error (elision mine):
TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert ...::Engine@1bc2bf11 to ....InterfacedEngine.
What about AS3 classes am I misunderstanding?

I am trying to build my first flash facebook app, using the "flash facebook cookbook". Its instructions are all for flash builder and I am using flash pro. I've downloaded the flash facebook graph apk, and connected the swc, but when I try to login I need to return a FacebookSession object and I keep getting an error message that it can't find the class.
I import the:

But it's as if the swc connection didn't work.

I have made a simple copy file in php that when I type in a name in my swf it saves a swf file that I have already created. But what I want is to beable to pass my vars to this swf -- but the only way I can think of is to say if(active file name == myxml.value[x]){do this}
I don't even know if this is an option or a good solution but is there away that flash can find the active file name.

I have a website using asp.net mvc in which I need to embed a flash file in view. I am unable to set the relative path for the flash file. Given below is the code I am using:

I've been given a Flash file (.swf extension) to put into a web page. Opening the file in my browser makes it quite blurry, so I'm assuming there is a natural size for the file, same as an image.
It's also rectangular so I need to work out the aspect ratio if I don't have an exact size. How would I find this information out?
