Flash :: Find Natural Size / Dimensions Of SWF File?

Dec 2, 2009

I've been given a Flash file (.swf extension) to put into a web page. Opening the file in my browser makes it quite blurry, so I'm assuming there is a natural size for the file, same as an image.

It's also rectangular so I need to work out the aspect ratio if I don't have an exact size. How would I find this information out?

I'm trying to find out how to instantiate a BitmapData symbol from my library, without manually coding in the height and width parameters.I have a bitmap in my library called myBitmap. To use it in a Flash file I have to "Export for Actionscript" under the class BitmapData. However, BitmapData's constructor needs the width and height parameters! Is there a way to avoid hardcoding values in like this:

Actionscript Code:

var theBitmap:Bitmap = new Bitmap(new myBitmap(19, 27));

Javascript :: Possible To Capture/find The Dimensions Of A Flash Movie As It Loads Into A Webpage?

Sep 9, 2011

I have a cms where my client loads banner ads from their clients. They don't know the dimensions or don't want to enter them when they upload the banners. Is it possible to capture the dimensions to set the object attributes as we grab the movies from the db to display in the page?I read that the movie dimensions are available in the loaderinfo object, but this is a AS3 object right? Are AS3 objects available outside the flash movie? Can I access the loaderobject via javascript?The Flash movies we're trying to load are not ours, we don't have access to the flas or anything like that so we can't edit anything to do with the movies themselves.

Javascript :: Show Flash Using Original Canvas Size Dimensions?

Sep 2, 2010

I have a generalized media player web app that I wish to be able to use flash in. The client uploads the flash to a particular directory, and a webpage is produced automatically that houses that flash file. The output of this process currently looks something like this:

<OBJECT id="flashContent" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000">
<PARAM value="always" name="allowScriptAccess" />
<PARAM value="#FFFFFF" name="bgcolor" />

[Code]......

I am trying to get the flash to display using the original canvas size (540 x 400 by default) but every time I load this in chrome I get 300 x 150 and in IE the box is square.

how to get it to render using the flash canvas size?

Actionscript 3 :: Find Where Size Is Coming From In Flash's Bandwidth Profiler?

Feb 21, 2012

I'm working on a Flash CS5/AS3 pre loader, and the bandwidth profiler is telling me that my frame 1 size is massive - about 850kb. Frame 2 is 128kb. This results in a white screen during the bulk of loading, followed by the brief and now-unecessary preloader, and then the rest of the swf.

I have a setup of two frames, the first being the preloader with the following code:

stop();
addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, preLoad)
function preLoad(event:Event):void{
var bytestoLoad:Number = loaderInfo.bytesTotal;

[Code].....

The .as file associated with the fla has tons of other information, a full game.

I've already gone through my library and on all the symbols with Linkage, unchecked the "Export in Frame 1". Also the pre-loader is small, only a text box and a shape.

How can I get more detail of it's loading in frame 1 so that I can move it to frame 2?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Setting External SWF Dimensions To Root Stage Size?

May 15, 2009

I am loading the SWF just fine, but I want the SWF to fit the root stage exactly. What happens instead is that the external SWF seems to include white space from around itself.

For example, the author-set width of the Tanks game (an example file I was using) is 550px, but when I set the width of loadEvent.currentTarget.content.width to 550px, the game is resized to maybe 350px width. I have to set the value of loadEvent.currentTarget.content.width to something like 640 in order to get the game itself to make full use of those 550 pixels.

Code:
package {
import flash.net.URLRequest;
import flash.display.Loader;
import flash.events.Event;

[Code].....

I have CS4 with AS3. I hard-coded values for cWidth and cHeight instead of getting them from flashvars because I am just testing in the IDE right now. Normally I would get those vars from flashvars.

Flash :: Find The Size Of The Area In A Bitmap Which Has Been Filled Using The Bitmapdata.floodfill Method?

Sep 27, 2011

I am using the floodfill method to colour-in sections of a bitmap image. That part is easy enough but the issue comes in with the way I am adding an effect to the colour fill routine.

To add the effect, first a copy of the bitmap data is created and floodfill is used on that instead of the original bitmap. Then the bitmapdata.compare method is used to set the alpha value of everything apart from the filled-in section to 0 and the result is saved in another bitmapdata. After that, a 1 px radius circle sprite is added to the stage and is being tweened to the image dimensions and its mask is set to the sprite which contains the result of the compare operation.

This works perfectly except for the fact that the fill sprite has to be tweened to the complete image dimensions irrespective of how small the area is being coloured-in since I am not able to find a way to get the dimensions of the fill area. I am doing an bitmap image update at the end of the tween and I have to disable user interaction till the tween is complete to avoid the errors which come in if another fill-in operation is started before the base image has been updated. If I could somehow get the dimensions of the fill area then the time during which I have to disable the user interaction will go down considerably.

Professional :: Ecard Suggested Stage Size - What Optimal Pixel Dimensions Would Be For Ecards To Run On Multiple Platforms

Feb 15, 2011

I have one that's almost done and the stage size is 700x800 px. But I'm starting to worry if that's going to look too small? To change it, will be a lot of work - there's animation, imported Jpegs etc. As far as I can tell, in order for it to look correct in larger dimensions I will need to basically create it again from the ground up. So, I'd really like to get an idea of what the optimal pixel dimensions would be for ecards to run on multiple platforms.

I really want to do this and I don't feel like I can move ahead until I get the viewing size correct. I don't even mind redoing the card. I just want my future cards to be the correct size. I don't want to have to come back and redo them all. By the way, the cards are being made in Flash. The site itself will be created in DreamWeaver.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Setup The Dimensions Of The File As In Terms Of Height And Width Of The File Without Getting It Cropped

Aug 20, 2009

The template is built under Flash and has .swf, .fla and html files and was setup on an html background. To make things look nice I decided to use an XML web template as a background to his template. The problem starts from there.The XML web template allows us to add our own SWF files, so I decided to add the swf file of my friend's template.

The swf file was set to "noscale" and when I imported it into the web template it didn't fit properly. So I took the "noscale" off from the actionscript and imported it again. Even then the scaling of the swf file was not correct.As soon as you load the file, it scales towards the left and not center.My question is how can I write a code within the fla file so that when the swf file is loaded it automatically centers itself?2nd question is how can I setup the dimensions of the file as in terms of height and width of the file without getting it cropped. I tried to set it up from 840x610 to 650x430 however the swf content got chopped off (even with noscale off).

Javascript :: Flash Library For File Upload With File Size Limit And Progress Bar?

Jan 13, 2012

Is there any "mainstream" library used for this purpose? Commonly spread, well maintained, documented etc.I found these (using flash):

Uploadify - not many releases, latest 12/2010, no documentation (!)
SWFUpload - latest release 03/2010, documentation
fancyupload - looks buggy.

phpfileuploader - looks heavyweight, and looks commercial (?) I cannot read the licence (you can download it but are you allowed to use it forever without paying?) plupload New version of pure javascript (no flash) Valums' ajax upload claims to handle file size limit and progress bar, which is quite suspicious to me: these features require to guess the file size before the upload, which seems impossible in javascript (look also here). Or can it work?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Making Slider Stop In A 'natural' Way?

Jan 15, 2004

this may seem like an odd question. well after spending ages getting my slider to act like I want I now want it to stop at a certain point - but to act 'naturally' - basically the slider accelerates the more a button is pressed and uses a set deceleration number to slow down the slider when the button is unclicked. So the faster its going the longer and further the slider takes to slow down - 'ease' down. when it reaches zero it stops.

If you click on the blue arrow in the movie youll see what i mean. The problem comes up when i want to get the slider to stop. I want the slider not to go beyond a certain point (say 600). This gets very difficult if the slider is to act naturally (as before). I guess some kind of reverse engineering is required that works out what point to start the slow down based on where the slider is and what speed its going at??

I fairly new to AS3 so I'm at a stand still. What I would like to do is save out the bitmap as only the visible area of the masked img_mc. The mask (called myMask) is also draggable and resizable so I'm not sure how to go about saving that specific area only.
